Great match for Venus today, just the one lapse of serve, but she came through. Defended her title! It was a very good match and Vika played very well.

I saw it too. And I agree, it was a well played match by both of them in spite of the fact that it only went two sets. Venus was her usual gracious self, but Vika always surprises me how she can go from being such a fierce hothead while playing, then become so warm and gracious when it's over whether she wins or loses. Congrats to Venus.
That trophy ceremony was a joke though. They spent forever talking about how well their company was doing, and mentioning the names of royals and all sorts of random people, then they spent like a minute talking to Venus, and didn't give Vika an opportunity to talk at all.

Me too Mpol although I was a little sad for Ferrer. Also happy about Llodra's and Querrey's wins. Neither were expected to win their tournaments, particularly Llodra. The pictures of his kids watching Daddy win were priceless.

Wow, was I wrong. Llodra must be the Capt. Jack Harkness of the ATP because I did not imagine him flirting madly with the ballman a few years back.
While I'm happy the ATP was able to get a tour sponsor, I'm a little wary of it being Corona. But does that mean if you drive into the parking lot of a tour event with a Corona in your hand you will get free parking? My cousin bought a Lexus for the free US Open parking (not really, she wanted the car but it didn't hurt that now she'll be parking for free).

It seems like an incongruity akin to the Virgina Slims sponsorships back in the day, but maybe it will take away some of the country club mystique tennis seems to have with some people? Who knows. I'm a little wary too, though.

Did I miss earlier news about Rafa starring in the new Shakira video? Is he the love interest?
Not long now until Indian Wells...

I've been trying to follow Marat's adventures at the Vancouver Olympics. Found this little clip. Scoll down the page and click on the video clip that shows Marat. www.kp.ru/daily/24444/609854/He's speaking to someone in Russian and I have no idea what he is saying but right in the middle of the conversation you can tell something else has caught his attention. His head swivels around and he says "Hello" to a lady that has caught his eye. The camera pans to the other gentleman and you can hear Marat in the back ground saying to the woman "You have a beautiful smile". Marat the ladies man.

breezy, thank you for posting that video. He's so Marat. I'm afraid my one day of college Russian is not good enough to translate. Maybe I should send it to one of my Russian friends. . . but I have a feeling the interesting part was the part in English.

I'm watching a bit of the tournament in Mexico and wishing desperately I was there instead of this cold place where I live. Anyway, I'm watching Gonzalez play Hanescu. I like Gonzalez and sometimes enjoy his antics but his black socks drive me nuts. Am I the only one? He reminds me of old men who wear their black dress socks on the beach.

I saw some of the Gasquet/Almagro match in Mexico, and wow, was it frustrating. Richy goes up 4-0 in the third, and still manages to lose it in a tiebreak. I couldn't figure out what was going on with him. Almagro really could have easily gone away and let Richy have the match, but he really fought, and ended up making his opponent look pretty ineffectual for a lot of that third set.

I forgot to respond to this earlier, breezy, but TOTAL. WORD. It brings back fond memories of living in Florida.
I haven't really watched any tennis since the Oz. No TTC.
