Does anyone know which of the courts at the US Open are televised?
They are: Ashe, Armstrong, Grandstand, 11, 13. Sometimes they drag cameras out to 4.
I only saw about a set and a half of Davydenko/Gasquet but Kolya just couldn't seem to put it together. And he was getting so exasperated (with himself, not the chair ump or line judges--he's no Roddick) and looked so defeated in the 3rd set that I didn't stay until the end. I like Gasquet--but I love Davydenko and I want him to come back 100% from his injury. That hasn't happened yet.
Watched mostly doubles yesterday. I was really looking forward to Malisse and Rochus playing together but they just couldn't seem to get it right for long enough periods of time. There were brief games where they looked great but then they'd start playing poorly again.
It was so odd seeing Feli play doubles with someone who is the same height. And so nice to see him smile and laugh and have a grand old time--even losing. He and Gabashvili haven't quite meshed but I liked them together so I hope they pair up again, but they probably won't. Too bad--Feli/Vili has such a nice ring to it. Meanwhile, Chela's partner, Cuevas? Good looking fella. Feli hit a between the legs winner (who does he think he is? Roger?) and the grin that split his face was stunning. He also kissed the net after a lucky net cord and I think all the women in the crowd promptly swooned. What cracks me up when I watch Feli is that the men in the crowd feel it is necessary to tell their wives/girlfriends/friends that Feli loves himself, isn't that good, constantly looks at himself in the mirror, etc. etc. I've never heard such rampant insecurity. . . and all for a man their significant other is never going to meet.
Llodra and Benneteau are looking good in doubles. And, man, playing Ball and Guccione meant there was a lot of tall on that court.
The one singles match we watched until the end (and what an end it was) was Kevin Anderson and Thomaz Bellucci. I've liked Anderson for a few years. I saw him play in Las Vegas and after he won his match--with no coach, team, etc.--he waited until the court was pretty empty and he got on his cell phone to tell people he had won. I found it really endearing. But he's never really put everything together and I didn't expect him to in this match either. I wanted my cousin to see Bellucci--up-and-comer that he is--but I was going to be rooting for Kevin. We ended up sitting in the midst of Anderson's camp with his coaches and one of their wives directly in front of us. My cousin and I spend a lot of time deciding whether we like what the players are wearing (she's leaning towards Lotto this year and I'm liking Lacoste). Sometimes we see a logo we don't recognize at all. Kevin had that--looked something like an infinity symbol--and the clothes were nice. Really nice. And he was putting on a lot of different shirts. Usually a player will go through a few shirts in a match but they're usually the same shirt or something similar. Kevin was putting on drastically differently-designed shirts every few changeovers. Finally, we asked the coach and his adorable wife (cutest couple ever--and we loved her because she was wearing shorts and a tank top with her hair in a ponytail, no stupid cocktail dress for this lady) what Kevin was wearing and they got so excited! Turns out the president of the clothing line (AthleticDNA) was sitting directly behind us and the reason he kept changing into different shirts was because they had a photographer there to take pictures for their ad campaign. Not that being a fashion plate disrupted Anderson's concentration. It was a tight, tight match with some monster serving. And, yeah! Fifth set tiebreak! I'm just happy that I got to watch a Bellucci match without the obnoxious fans (like in Miami) ruining. it. The crowd was firmly rooting for Bellucci but they were a good rowdy crowd.
Today's weather is going to be very hit or miss. Hopefully I'll get to see everything I want without getting too soaked in rain delays. The hurricane is moving farther to the east than they originally thought but that doesn't mean we won't get a lot of rain.
I found it interesting that both Gilbert and Cahill said that Djokovic needs to add at least 10-15 pounds of muscle. Roddick and Fish have slimmed way down and gotten better results, but they went on and on about how adding bulk to the legs and glutes would help.
With his breathing issues? I don't know that added bulk would help. Maybe loads of breathing-based strength training? Like pilates and Ashtanga or power yoga? Hell, with his heat issues maybe he should train in Bikram yoga. He'd get used to working in extreme heat darn fast.
