I get Safina/Jankovic vibes from Caroline. Meaning, it's only a matter of time before she slips from No. 1 without having ever won a major. Capitalizing on the mistakes of others can only take you so far.

I have this inexplicable adoration for Philipp Petzschner so I'm glad to see him with another doubles slam title.

The interesting thing that I noticed during that match where Wozniacki lost to Christina McHale, is that Christina's game is very similar to Caroline's. Caroline has developed a little more consistency, and of course superior fitness, but they have similar movement, and similar strokes, except that Christina has a powerful for hand that she can hit winners with. I have seen Caroline play more like Christina than she did last night, and of course when you've got a mostly winning formula, it's hard to add in an element that could potentially take away from it. I hope she finds a way to do that, without screwing with her impressive defense. If she doesn't, she's always going to have to depend on the person across the net, good draws, and top level players getting knocked out early to help her win the really big titles.

And I love Melzer (inexplicable, I know) so that makes me happy. They are a good pair--I watched them practice last year in London at the WTF and they were having a good time together. It's always fun to watch doubles team practice, it's not like a singles player and hitting partner. It's more equal and they always seem to be having fun.
Thank goodness for the women's doubles final on ESPN2 today. I'm not so interested in the women's final (Stosur's sudden headcaseness bothers me) but I do want to watch some tennis today. And Vania King is one of my faves in terms of happy and having fun while she plays. Like falafaclese, I like Lisa Raymond but blergh to Huber so I'll be firmly in the King/Shvedova seat. (Even if Shvedova's LOUSY serving is what knocked her and Max out of mixed).
Oh, and the Brits saved me yesterday from fixating on my lousy sports day (I've never had such a lousy sports day as a fan--not only Roger and Andy, but my Brewers are on a losing streak [letting the Cardinals chip at what should have been an insurmountable lead--think of it as if Roger's match points were in the third set and then he lost in five] and my Rutgers football team lost. Tennis, baseball and football? That's just crazy.). I watched Doctor Who last night and Top Gear this morning and I felt better. I've got WTF in London in a couple of months so "my" tennis year isn't ending with yesterday either (I'm not much of a fan of the fall indoor season).

Oh, that's very explicable, IMO. I saw him interviewed on the (to me, late lamented) TTC, and he was absolutely delightful. I've been a fan ever since. And Petschner is very attractive too. He reminds me of someone, but I've never been able to put my finger on who.

Hi folks- hope you are enjoying the USO.
I am hoping Sam can hold it together and there will be a great match today. I think Serena will win but I hope Sam plays w/o the nerves that can get to her at times.
Rooting for Rafa tomorrow but I think it will be Nole and his dancing and finger behind the ear and King Kong air humping with the win. He is just having a great year.
But I am happy Rafa is in the final- after Cincy and the first round here I thought he would go out before the quarters. But I have been very pleased with his improved play.
I would like to see the analysts talk about some tactics that could help Rafa beat Nole. They always talk about what Other players need to do to beat Rafa. Nole knows how, he has owned Rafa this year and is 5-0 against him in finals.

Aaah, doubles. What a palate cleanser this match has been so far. Such interesting and fun points.

Well, of course they are still playing football as always.
I don't understand, why don't they just schedule the final for 4:30 every year? Must have something to do with CBS, but this is the womens' and it can only go 3 at most.
Still very down about the USO but after what Serena's been through these past 12 months I would like to see her make a comeback. Though I hope Stosur makes it close.

Vania King seems so small, I love when she unloads and hits a winner.

Too bad. King looks so disappointed. I had to go out, so I missed a lot of it. They were really picking on Shvedova at the end, though.

I'm really happy for Lisa Raymond. Virginia Wade said Raymond and Huber played some amazing doubles and, coming from Ms Wade, who was herself an amazing doubles player, that's quite the compliment.

I hated seeing her with her head in her towel. I think Shvedova and Roger can get together and sit in a bar somewhere when they can't sleep tonight. However, if Vania King says it is thanks to Shvedova that she is enjoying tennis after not having any motivation to play then I just say thank you to Shvedova--'cause I do love watching Vania play.
And I really like Raymond. I've always been a fan and I like that she got herself so in shape after her mid-30s showed her out of shape and pretty darn unhealthy looking. To do that in her late 30s. . . that's impressive. But I just don't like Liezl Huber. At all.

I know! I love that! All that strength. . . And I love the top parts of both women's outfits but the bottoms both need work--Serena has such a little waist that a slightly longer skirt would look better and Sam has no discernible waist so a slightly shorter skirt would help there.
I think Serena's foot is bothering her, but Sam is playing really well so I'm glad. The women are used to playing best-of-three day after day on the tour so, unlike the men who only play best-of-five occasionally, I don't think playing yesterday is any bad thing for either of them.
Does anyone know who the woman is sitting next to Sam's coach? She's got to be related to Sam--they look exactly alike.
