What's going on with Safarova? I know Niculescu is scrappy, but Lucie should be winning this rather than playing a set and a half without even getting a game.
ETA: Niculescu seems to be spinning her head off. maybe that's the problem.
EATA: Colette has towel duty on court 17 for Wawrinka/Young. I must say, she's nothing if not efficient.

Indeed, thanks lt it's fun to read the onsite stuff.
Oh look, he-es what I w-ote yeste-day when I timed out: And Stepanek reti-ed ... this is something, how many walkove-s/reti-ements the-e have been. So hope Venus is able to manage he- autoimmune disease, they can be a bitch (says one who knows), but there have also been big steps made in medications available and t-eatment gene-ally.
Yeah, I'm not holding my b-eath on Mu--ay eithe-. I think he's capable of winning a Slam in theo-y, but that's it to date. I won't be shocked if/when he wins one, but I'm definitely not waiting on it.
Adding: Yeah, what Venus has does sound ra-ish, that's what I have is rheumatoid arthritis. I assume the d-ug policy allows exceptions? Cause steroids a-e usually the 1st thing they put you on with an auto-immune disease. I'm so sad fo- her, though I get that it's a relief to at least know what the hell is going on.
I like Nadal's game - it's kinda awesome I think. Not joyous like watching Fed (to me), but amazing in itself.
Didn't Safa-ova have a long match against one of the teens? Though that was 2 days ago, and it wasn't like a 5-set men's.
Wow, is Penetta playing that tough o- is Sha-apova off? I should go to the tv and see!
ETA: Wow, TV is not gonna be happy! No Venus now, Kim out, and then Sha-apova loses 2nd round. Yeah, the #1 and 2 seeds a-e still in it, but you'll neve- make me believe the US public(or the TV folks, honestly) ca-e much about Woz, o- at all about Ve-a.
It's just too bad about Wozniacki - at least when Hingis was #1, you knew she couldn't stand up to the "big babes" (eve-ybody g-oans), but she had an excellent game based on he- excellent mind, at least it was inte-esting to watch her. Woz, not so much.

Wow, Maria really blew it -- lots of double faults.
I'm very impressed that Donald Young has made it to a fifth set against Wawrinka.

I cannot believe Donald Young might pull this out. He's up 4-0 in the 5th set tiebreak. He should have won when he broke serve to go up 5-4, but...if he can beat Wawrinka at the Open, it's going to be the best win of his career.
ETA: And there it is. Good for him. But he's kinda a jackass.

Until/unless Maria can get that se-ve back in control she's gonna be like the lovely Demented One. Ve-y good, but not able to take that next step, and liable to off days like this.
It is impressive of Young, but I think Stan gets in way too many of these long matches. Have to make it exciting, huh Stan? Well don't!
And WTF AndyM? Down 2 sets(and one of them 6-2) to Haase? Not Haas, Haase, give me a break. I know we've been dogging you, but come on. He's not that good and you are. This is like the doomed US Open with all the reti-ements(walkove-s/out with inju-y) and upsets.
The othe- long matches I get: Ljubicic is a seed, but playing Nalby. Feli, Simon, yeah ok, not shocked. But this should be a b-eeze fo- Mu--ay. I mean, a match, but not tough.

You know how Feli had those tree trunk legs--he totally doesn't anymore. His calves are so much smaller and his ankles are positively skinny. Anyone know anything about Vasek Pospisil from Canada? He's young but has quite the game and can take spin and turn it into pace.

lt - Pospisil plays doubles with Raonic. They were the team that beat Nadal/Djokovic at Roger's Cup in 2010. He seems to be making a move up the rankings as of late. Perhaps inspired by Raonic?

I'm happy for Young, but I too, am concerned about the jackass quotient there. I just watched some of his presser, though, and he acquitted himself well, so I'm still hoping he continues to improve on all accounts. He's fun to watch for sure. He has a nice flow on the court, and a very active, athletic game.
ETA: It occurred to me that Ryan Harrison's jackass quotient too. Are the young American men more heavy on the ego than their counterparts? i don't know. Dmitrov did have some bad run-ins with officials recently, so maybe not.

Don't forget Tomic, fala. He probably has the biggest jackass quotient of all the young'uns

Ugh. So, in the space of five minutes Max and Daniel lost and I realize that Murray/Feli has every chance of being the Sunday night match (I have day tickets). It's a top player without being someone CBS cares about. Damn.
I only went to two matches today since I went to work in the morning. That Feli match was a thriller though and, once again, the women were cheering for Feli and the guys were calling him "pretty boy."
Oh, yesterday I saw a couple go up to Carlos Ramos to get their pictures taken with him . . . Thise two would fit right in here. . .
Thanks, breezy, for the answer about Vasek. I hope he continues to improve because I liked his game. The one thing he really needs to work on is not hitting the ball into the net when his opponent is charging. He also needs some better movement. He's so tall and he can't get dlwn low.

acre, have you still not replaced your keyboard?! ;D
Glad to see I'm not alone with the Donald Young jackass factor. I'm reserving judgement, as he was playing really well. But geez, save the self-congratulations until after the game. I mean, it's ok to exult and be excited when you get a good point - but we don't need an ego parade to go with it.

Mchale never looked like she was in that match. A little disappointing, but I hope the potential she showed this week continues to develop.
Tomorrow should be a good day. I still can't believe that Sharapova's out already, though.

Heh, lizm obviously, I have not. I am broke. Ahead of the kb I need a new bed(oh my aching back), and a new dishwashe-(oh my goddamn filthy dishes) ... but it's on the list! I'm so sorry everyone. Do my (-)'s instead of (r)'s annoy you? I honestly will c/p every time if you want me to. It's just a pain in the ass for me, but I don't need to share the pain! (Me tough, me take it on my own, huh no fucking kb won't stop me, me fucking tough). (Okay I think I'm hilarious, but I know you may not - totally lame in fact, so have at me, it's okay)
I'm slightly disgusted by today's play: Yes, most of the faves/seeds went th-ough. But AndyM, c'mon you idiot. Ljubicic I have no issue with - lose to Nalbandian, that's always gonna be possible. If he's fit and healthy and motivated he'll give you fits: the man knows how to play tennis, and also has the talents and abilities to play it at a top level. Some of the seconda-y matches, I dunno. Fucking Stan. And Feli etc won, but made it too tough. Not to mention Lucie and Maria. Aieee, I get so annoyed, and I shouldn't. This is the way pro tennis is. Outside of the absolute top it's like this. And even my beloved Fed has shown himself vulnerable at times, well to good playe-s having a good day. It can happen to anyone. But I hate it. I like order in my wo-ld, at least, when it gets upended let it be those I don't ca-e about!
