I'll add that Andy played amazingly aggressive on his returns. The best returning I've seen from Andy. Roger looked tired, but Andy kept it together enough to win.

Sounds like a doozy of a final. Think I might try and find a recording of it somewhere....

Knowing that Tennis Channel was airing live at 4:30 a and re-airing at 8:30 a, I opted to sleep and catch the replay. My mistake was turning on the TV early - just in time for the (live) award ceremony. Sounds like it was the best three-setter of the year!
Saw the report of a crazy ladies final - Heather Watson took nearly as long (and saved about as many MPs) to become the first British woman to win a WTA title since 1988.
ETA: While it seemed likely from the moment they won Wimbledon, it's now official: Marray/Nielsen qualified for WTF due to guaranteed Top 20 finish.

Congrats to the Sods(if that's her and her name)! And I hope he will be able to come back to tennis at his high level, though I don't know if that's possible o- even what he wants now. Hey, lots of things can change when you become a pa-ent, things taken on diffe-ent lights. Not with Fed so much, but his whole family is and always has been completely committed to his tennis, it's a way of life they all love. Okay, that's my own obligato-y Fed mention, but anyway mostly I just hope all the Sod's a-e happy and healthy, and selfishly I'd like to see him in tennis, too.
Funny how I like one kinda/sometimes sullen guy, and just cannot with Andy M. Even mostly in the past with both, one I just lightly toss it off, one is just annoying.

The Sod has mono, unfortunately. Unless he finally beat it. Happy for him and his wife.

Here's Baby Sod. Very cute, and clearly enormous. I think those are the longest legs I've ever seen on a newborn. Even her little toes look extra long.

Juan Carlos Ferrero's last tournament begins with a first round match against Almagro, who he's practically coaching now. He's playing doubles with Ferrer, which has already been scheduled so that it will be followed by a retirement ceremony.
Tennis Channel has been having Andy Roddick week, which included both 2003 USO SF and final. Talk about weird matches to watch - (SF) Nalbandian wasn't yet "Fat Dave" and had vanquished mere one-slam-champ Roger Federer while (F) JCF was about to be named #1 in the world and, of course, the Next Great Hope narrative about Andy.

Venus just won Luxemburg and I'm half in tears. Amazing. She often looked in pain from her back and tired from her illness, but she pulled it out. How can you not love sports because of stories like this? She's at #24 now. This made the rest of my year. I'm ecstatic.

I saw that too skyz! She was just arming her serve and was winded at the end, but she looked good off the ground, and has been volleying every well all week. It was really good to see. To be fair, Niculescu seems to play well in Luxembourg and definitely played well this week, and she was getting a lot of balls back and moving it around, so the tired look Venus had at the end could have been about how much running and fighting she was doing. I was more worried about her back situation.
She was very happy during the trophy ceremony, and they both were very gracious. I didn't see the beginning, but overall it was an enjoyable match. It's so great to see Venus fighting and winning!

Does that ever bring a smile to my face to see Venus winning a title! Too bad there's no more to her season but so happy she's back in the Top 30.
ETA: or maybe I'm wrong. Someone pointed out at tennis.com that Venus might have qualified for Sofia!

She has qualified for Sofia, although I would be surprised if she played given her apparent back problems. Towards the end of her match she wasn't leaving the ground on her serve at all. It seems like maybe she should take it easy and focus on getting healthy and ready for next year. You never know with her though, and the tournament doesn't start for another week.

There seems to be a baby boom on the ATP tour!
The WTA year-end championships have started. Is anyone watching? I saw part of Serena/Angelique, and part of Aga/Petra. Serena wasn't serving well, but otherwise, she looked very good. Aga was her usual crafty self.
