For those who haven't taken lt's advice, it looks like ESPN Classic will be carrying it live once it starts, the light rain has stopped, people are filing into the stadium, and the players are waiting to come out.

I think that, while Djokovic is still at a high level, the magic isn't quite there. I don't see him being so serious about these lower events.
Isner, on the other hand, does have the magic. The results have been up and down but something John has definitely proven in the last year is that the better the opponent, the more geared up he is. He was just on point today.
If Rafa beats Roger, it makes for an intriguing situation - Rafa would be against John in both singles and doubles. They'll be seeing so much of each other's serves in such a short span. I honestly don't know who that would benefit in this case.

Oh well, I don't get ESPN Classic (randomly lost it when I got rid of the super sports pack when Cablevision lost TTC) but if that means ESPN2 goes live at 9pm ET instead of tape, I'm happy.
I'm watching the Wisconsin/Vanderbilt basketball game right now and the announcers just said that one of the Wisconsin players (Mike Bruesewitz) was a US Open ballkid for five years! How random is that? (Well, he is from Brooklyn and was a letterman in tennis in HS so I guess not that random.)
I don't think Djoker thinks of IW as a lower event--this is one of the premier events of the ATP/WTA and I don't think he's reached a point where he only thinks about the Grand Slams.

I think you're right about that, although the greater import of the slams may wake him up and push him to another level. The question is whether he still has another level, and whether he can maintain it long enough to make the kind of impression he was making last year. Of course this is the guy who just won the Australian Open in pretty spectacular fashion, so it's hardly time for an alarm call, but I think this is the type of event he would have been taking seriously.

Awww, man. A cool night in the desert - a good match - and decent attire from both. /IWpining
ETA: Or maybe it would just be an expensive version of me notwatching...

I like both of their outfits too--although I prefer Roger's because I like a collar.
Man, it is so windy and cool that these new balls make it look like they are playing with balloons. How hard it must be to figure out where the ball is going to land.
oops, I think you should be happy you aren't out there because whatever this illness was that went around the tournament, it seems to have been a nasty one.
I just checked the radar and as bad as this wind is, it might be lucky--there is a huge band of rain coming straight for Indian Wells and as soon as it gets close it's splitting apart and going around.

Collar all the way, me too.
And I chuckled because the kids and I have spent two full days in pjs, with a flu that seems particularly mean.
Love my Sky commentators (if that's who they are!) --

Hey oops, if you and I are both watching does that mean our jinxing is offset? (and I hope you and the kids get better quick. I hate the flu.)
'cause I'm going to tempt fate right now: Holy cr*p! I haven't seen Roger hit shots like this in absolute ages. Love it!
eta: I TAKE IT BACK! Forget I said anything. . .

I KNOW! But my cat is sleeping on my lap and the Giants stopped losing when she started doing that (I spent the playoffs chasing her around the house and making her sleep on my lap during the games) so we might be okay. . .
eta: oh no, sleepy cat has stopped working. And the rain is coming back. ARGH!

I have to start dusting (that's my other sports thing). But then I'd have to wake the cat. What to do?
That article was incredible. It is scary where people are willing to live to get close to a city. I live on what used to be a dye factory but the developer won all sorts of awards for how well they cleaned the land before they started building. Still, would I have accepted that if it wasn't 10 miles from NYC? And I love that the radiologist is saying "eh, why bother cleaning it up." Probably figures for him it's going to be one thing or another.
eta: heh, Anna Wintour looks as freaked out as I feel right now.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Rain at match point!

Right? Crazy. My feed just died. Whoa. ETA: Came back during the brief rain delay, and now has frozen mid-fist-pump after match point. Good kitty....

PHEW! I'm looking forward to tomorrow's matches. I like all four players in the singles finals so I can just enjoy myself.
I wonder how they'll handle the men's doubles final tomorrow--the men's final isn't until after the women's final so it might be quite late by the time John gets his rest in after the singles match.
Heh, she got up to get a snack during the brief rain delay so now I don't know what her power is.

Sorry I missed the Roger match live! But for anyone who has Tennis Channel they are about to repeat the men's semis at midnight, they say.
lt I think they said the men's doubles final would be at 7:30 tomorrow (if it doesn't rain I guess?)
