Clearly no one is listening to Brad Gilbet over there as he just can not shut up about Djoker. He has pretty much crowned him champion which, given Gilbert's track record, means he hasn't a hope in hell of winning.

I was home when Haas won the first set and at 3-all in the second. I am afraid to ask - cuz I'm sure it's beyond getting tired given the source.
ETA: okay, maybe it really is just being 34... and Gasquet in blast-off mode.

I like Gasquet but I wish Tommy could have gone just a bit further.
I haven't been paying attention--is she an American citizen? If yes, I don't understand why there would be an issue, it's not like there are too many Americans who actually come from here. If no, she wouldn't be eligible anyway. Dual citizenship? That might be where I could see two sides. I think Max has dual citizenship but he's always played for Belarus.

She is an American citizen and, as far as I can see, there should be no issue. She's just not the "attractive" pick because she hasn't been promoted like other American players. A commentator (likely Gimelstob) made mention of how the USTA wasn't exactly rooting for her to make this run.
Now imagine the chaos if she and Sloane Stephens win their fourth round matches - both will pass Venus!

I'm not torn about her citizenship. I'm torn about her and really, anyone, taking the spot I want Venus to have. However, Venus clearly isn't healthy. So I'm torn.

I watched part of the Ferrer/Youzhny match but didn't see this part. After losing the first eight games to Ferrer, Youzhny wrote "SORRY" in the clay when he finally won a game. From his preser: “There was a lot of people. That’s why I write ‘sorry.’ Because I can’t show them a nice game,” Youzhny said. “The way we played in the beginning, it was not really interesting for people.”

My Youz love was solidified a few years in Cincinnati when I saw him playing on a small side Court. (I may have mentioned this before.) It was doubles and he was serving. I have extraordinarily pale skin (my skin tone is seriously blue). I have a bright pink parasol I carry and use when I go see tennis. So there I sit, about 10 feet from him, parasol up. He looked at me and WINKED. At me. I practically squealed like a high schooler meeting Channing Tatum.
He's totally adorable and those eyes...oh, those eyes.
I adore Monaco's shirt. Normally I wouldn't like blue melting into orange, but it works on him. I like Raonic but I don't like the fact that JMac has "Milos" tattooed on his ass with hearts and flowers around it. UGH.
Caroline. *shakes head in disappointment*

Well now, that I can understand completely! I'm feeling exactly the same way. The other day, the BF said a couple of the commentators were commenting on the citizenship thing.

breezy, that's so cute. . . and the photos coming out of this French Open are so freakin' good. Great angles, great composition, great lighting, great feel for the tournament without the same ol' same ol'. Love it. roseha, if you haven't already, make sure to check them out on the rolandgarros.com.

I'm watching some of the tennis I recorded today while I was out playing tennis. The last set of Granollers and Mathieu is a must watch. Not because of the tennis but because of the sound that Granollers is making every time he hits the ball. I'm pretty sure he doesn't make that sound normally. It's not a grunt. More like a long, loud wailing noise. I can only assume he hasn't been doing it during the whole 5 sets. The commentators are laughing. I've not really heard someone make this noise playing tennis before.

John McEnroe was getting quite angry about it. He's a Raonic fan and it was pissing him off. But, just like with the women, if the sound lasts until the ball is in the opponent's side of the net then I think it needs to be stopped. It's just not fair.

Sorry, I'm missing something here. Why did his love of Raonic make him angry at Granollers during the Granollers/Mathieu match?

Ooops! Getting my player names mixed up: he was getting angry for PHM because the sound was so distracting--esp. during Mathieu's serve game in the fifth set.

hey lt thanks for letting me know about the roland garros photos--just what I've seen so far look fabulous.
Haven't been able to watch a lot yet but aim to make up for it soon, for one thing I'm glad Sloane Stephens is doing so weill, I remember seeing her in a previous event. I do hope she and Venus both make the olympic team though.

Wow! What a win for Domi against Azarenka. I like Vika but am a fan of Cibulokava so it was nice to see her get the win.
Goffin is Benjamin Button- gets younger looking every day.
