Amen, falafaclese. As the EuroSport commentators are saying, he's swiping at the ball because he had four match points and couldn't convert any of them.

Seconded. So, the underdog in both men's QF matches today was outplayed but both lost.
eta: oops, I meant did the outplaying and lost

Did Jo really phone in the fifth set? If so, I might hold a grudge against him that lasts a while.

No, he was just downhearted and a bit flat footed. The rain had made the balls heavier and that was favoring Djoker starting at the end of the fourth set. And once Djoker gets his teeth in. . .

ACK! I thought Jo-Willie had a good chance.. but when he lost that 4th set breaker? Oh well, he gave it a good go, but maybe he should look into getting a coach? (Just sayin')

(Just sayin') I think you might be preaching to the chior about the coach, imelda. He gets so close, and yet so far. And so damn often too! It's frustrating!

Anyone read anything about Delpo yet? I didn't get to see sets 3 and 4, but cannot imagine that he was in good health. I did hear the commentators (EuroSport) mention that he seemed to be trying to get to a fifth set. At that time I was bouncing on the trampoline with my 4-yr old, trying to redeem a year of being the worst mother ever - so I only caught random phrases.... (If having the computer open and streaming at the edge of the trampoline negates my efforts at parenting, please don't tell me....)

oops, he was definitely injured. He got a painkiller some time in the third or fourth set and the trainer re-wrapped his knee after the fourth. But if anyone is questioning whether to love Delpo or not, read his post match. What a class act. He says it wasn't his knee at all (it totally was) and that Roger just played better (he totally didn't). Just the height of sportsmanship. Sometimes I watch Delpo shrug himself around the court and I just don't feel him. I read this and I completely adore him. And, coach for Tsonga=good. He psyches himself in and out of matches and it's exhausting. If Nole wasn't so predatory (and i mean that in a good way) and hadn't broken Jo early in the fifth there might have been a different outcome.

There's a good soul, lt - no doubt. Sad to hear that there was pain.
Kind of weird that we get a Djo-Fed semi after today. Strange to feel that that is strange, I guess.

My 9 yr old was home from school yesterday and got a lesson in sports psychology. I pointed out what all of us sensed that the chances of Tsonga winning after the numerous MP squandered was slight. She was amazed to watch it unfold and I was just sick...
Poor JMDP. Such a sweet, gentle giant. I hope the knee was just temp result of long, grinding clay matches and that he is well for the summer.
Ferrer has much better closing instincts than Gasquet (understatement I know!) so Murray better hope his back warms up quick.
As someone who adores Petra, I hope she can keep on task!
ETA And Petra down 0-3 to open first. UGH. And apparently DelPo is out of Queens and headed back to Argentina re: his knee. Double UGH

That's so sad about Delpo.
Bad serving and all--Maria sure took care of business today. Petra's turned it around so we'll see what happens in the third set.
The radio said it is supposed to rain loads tomorrow. That'll wreak havoc with the women's semis.

Well Petra did come thru and as usual there is no way to tell from her play how her match up with Maria will go. I don't think Maria has dropped a set but w/ Serena's exit her draw hasn't been particularly taxing. I don't see any outcome except Nadal winning but I hope that Almagro has a moral victory He has really grown on me over the last couple of years. He seems fit and committed and I hope it continues to pay off for him.

The radio guys were saying that Nico has gotten closer to his family and JCF has become his mentor and that Almagro is crediting both with helping him grow up and become more mature.
Did you hear the boos when Murray was announced? If he does indeed play better when everyone is rooting against him then he should be fine today.

Love JCF and think his mom died when he was a teen. So I could see how his life experiences would make Nico appreciate his family. Am happy JCF is still plugging away but I hope retirement puts him in the coaches box. I'd become an immediate fan of his employer, any excuse to see him Didn't hear the boos for Murray. I know he spends a lot of time in Miami but he better call on his birthplace to deal with this Parisian weather!
