It's amazing how many men's finals in recent years have had a ton of tennis history turning on the result: Rafa-Roger Wimby 2008, Rafa-Nole French 2012, now Sunday's final. And there are probably more that I'm forgetting. A little history on the women's side too, this time. Serena could be the first woman over 30 to win Wimby since Martina N, and Aga could be the first Polish woman ever. Not quite as monumental, but still very interesting.

ESPN interviewed Pete and here's what he had to say about Roger: and Andy: Good for Pete. Classy answers. Here's the article. I especially like the chuckling about getting used to Roger beating all his records.

Gah, I have nothing new to say (except thanks fo- the link lt) but I am just so damn excited and happy I may just explode into joyous little bits of fluff. And at the same time my stomach is al-eady kinda in knots fo- Sunday. Yowza.
Well, I definitely won't be rooting against Andy, but for Fed. I mean, if Andy wins (please no) I will be beyond th-illed fo- him.
And oh yeah, the women. Well seems to me it's enti-ely on Serena. Agi just doesn't have anything to hu-t her. Not many do, but some have at least a fighting chance, and I don't see that ith Agi. Maybe I'm just not giving he- enough c-edit, but this is Serena we're talking about.
And: As I'm su-e you'll all be pleased to know I think I'll be getting a new pc soonish. At least by the US Open. And I will post the shit out of Fed and Nadal's full names, again and again and again!

I think I am feelings all the same things you are acre, I mean now that the final is here I am so nervous even though I believe Roger has a good chance. I am definitely rooting for him too, Andy can beat anyone else as far as I'm concerned, but I can't root against Roger at Wimbledon either.
I am really hoping Roger will win this, and it's not about the number one ranking for me, it's just about the Slams really, and about Wimbledon. I've missed seeing him in these finals.
I don't see Serena losing either, I know I thought the same thing about Maria last year, but I think this does seem to be a real mismatch. We'll see tomorrow though.
(Oh yes and thanks from me too lt for the link to that full Sampras article!)

Let's not forget that Agi is the woman who pulled the psych-out of the century on the previously un-psych-outable Maria Sharapova at the 2007 U.S. Open. She has more up her sleeve than any woman on tour, as evidenced by her results over the past year. I'm not expecting her to give Serena much trouble, but you never know. Serena has fallen victim to nerves more and more since she has been back.
As for Roger, I think he's got a good chance retaking the number one spot by the end of the U.S. Open even if he doesn't win here. I'm very conflicted about the men's final. I am, of course, a Fed fan, but no matter how many on-court tantrums Murray has, I can't quit him. Also, I'm always in favor of ending a media talking point, and the will-he-won't-he Murray debate is overdue.

What a horrible reporter they have on Breakfast at Wimbledon, doing a segment on Aga. Who is this guy? He for sure doesn't have a reporters voice at all.

Yeah, I've been trying to figure out where he came from. He just popped up in the middle of the tournament a few days ago. I thought maybe he was a blogger. I'm not sure how I feel about him. He doesn't seem to be bringing anything new to the table.

Where is Breakfast at Wimbledon? NBC showing Tour de France (to my family's delight!). Just saw on my stream a shot of Evert and Fowler in the booth - wondering where I was when that news hit, that NBC was giving up its coverage. Selective memory, or just old age? ETA: Thanks for that link, lt... I like aging Pete....

oops, Wimbledon start to finish is on ESPN this year but I can't remember when it was announced. I'm just happy it happened because I hated what NBC had been doing to Wimbledon the past few years.
I haven't seen him until this morning and I kept an open mind when he was introducing his piece to Hannah Storm because I liked seeing a new face but, man, that was weak. He told me absolutely zero about Aga.
But how much do I love Sir Charles? Maybe it's because I love seeing athletes love sports they don't play, but he was really good. I really liked his "when you play on the edge it's just a matter of when you're going to fall off, not if." And he would know. . . He had some really good insights into what it's like to wait for years to get to the ultimate match and then have to face someone who is historically better than you are (I enjoyed his talking about how he would tell Patrick Ewing that Jordan was just better than they are). Oh, and I agree with him about other sports picking up young athletes because a parent would have to be nuts to want their kids to play football (after tennis my favorite sport but, yeah, concussions not fun). They should have remembered baseball and soccer in their alternatives though.
Meanwhile, this match? Blerg. It's just no fun. I hope the rain delay helps Aga 'cause she needs all the help she can get.

Yeah. Before the match, I was thinking the first set would be a blowout, and the second would be much tighter, but with the delay, I don't know what to think.

Getting at least a little interesting.
Must admit how happy I am not to deal with the NBC crew this morning, though the loss of my little tradition gnaws just a bit. Also, the fact that I feel like the absent-minded professor among you all - a step behind at best!

This is more fun to watch but I really would love to see a third set. I think another rain delay would hurt Aga more at this point so I hope we don't get one.
oops, how good is it not to hear Mary? Chrissie can be a Debbie Downer but she's being complimentary to both players and she works well with Chris Fowler. When you start missing the tradition, remember the trio of Mary/John/Ted. Now you'll feel better.

Your wish is their command!
I also get to skip Chrissie and Fowler - which is for me equally happy. I have calm John and Lindsay and some guy named Mark. Barely listening, however, as I'm keeping mine low for the Paul-and-Phil fest of the Tour!

I think I just realized what I am most happy not to be hearing? Grunts! The quiet in today's match - from the overseas commentating to the hard play without screeching - is heavenly!
