I hate it when Gimelstob gets creative with his adjectives. Every time he refers to an impressive shot as "filthy" I feel like I need a Silkwood shower. Plus, it's not nearly as clever as he seems to think it is.

Dammit. Why does Gulbis do this? Just win the fucking match when you have the chance. Anyway you look at it Nadal's not going to give up. Take your chances when you have them. But it's nice to see Gulbis playing well, at last.

That was quite a nice match, and a great win for Rafa because you're right; Gulbis was playing very well.
On a superficial note, I hate to bring it up, but is Fed's hairline receding? I thought I saw some widow's peak.

When did Gulbis get hot?

Jer2002 - When Gulbis' hair is short and he has a little scruff, it works for him, especially when he smiles. Too often, he goes in the direction of homeless bum.
That match did live up to the hype.
I know that Federer-Nadal will get all the attention (I've personally never cared about that rivalry) but I'm more excited there's finally a Murray-del Potro match... first meeting since del Potro had wrist surgery.

It's my first day off in 13 days, and today was suppose to be "Women's Quarterfinal/Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough" Thursday and BOTH quarterfinals have retirements including Vika, ONCE AGAIN! Sorry Vika, but you don't get to keep your undefeated streak if you retire and pull out of this many tournaments.
ETA: Can I just say, let's give it up for the shortening of the shorts that appears to be happening on the men's side! Ain't nothing wrong with getting a clearer look at what's going on with Berdych's thighs!

I just saw that. Crazy. I never like watching Rafa/Roger because usually Roger frustrates me in how he plays Rafa. But I'll watch it, lol. I just want to see if it's different. Could be, maybe.
Andy and Del Po should be a good match up. I'm so glad he's getting back in the groove of things.
I'm so looking forward to Miami. I hope they show more WTA matches. TTC was shit for showing any women's matches. But I guess it's down to the world feed and none of them wanted to show women's matches. I don't understand how the WTA can't get a tv contract and they just lost their eurosports contract or whatever. Ridiculous. I wish the WTA had an all access show like the ATP, that'd be interesting to watch.
As for Gulbis I think losing the drinking and smoking made him look less unattractive. Less alcohol bloat and whatnot. And the haircut did wonders. He does look nice, until he opens his mouth.

Just in briefly. Gulbis used to look like a lesbian gym teacher or a fourteen year old boy, depending on the photo. Like Kristen Stewart back when she had short hair. Gulbis has improved. K-Stew, not so much.
Loving the trend towards shorter shorts. I've always had a thing for thighs.
Can someone gag Gimelstob? He's trying to be trendy and failing. He's always hated Rafa and it always comes through. He's a terrible commentator.
I noticed the difference in Roger's hair. It seemed less curly and therefore not as thick. I was wondering if he borrowed Feli's straightener.

Gimelstob just needs to be gagged, period. I think he's actually drinking the Nadal juice, ever since he made that trip to Chile to interview him. Still not as strong as his Federer love... though it must kill him to have to scale back his American love because talking about James Blake like that (as he did in the Tsonga match) just made him sound out of touch and even dumber than usual.
Though right now, my stronger hate is for Patrick McEnroe, who sent out this tweet: Maybe some other players should realize that Federer is out there for the FANS even tough he is not 100% physically. Chances?
Even though both Stosur and Azarenka withdrew, it's clear this is about Vika. It shows PMac did not see any of Vika's matches this week and just wanted another chance to attack her (and praise St. Roger). Gimelstob made a point of saying that Roger may not have played if both ladies hadn't withdrawn, which might actually be a fair point given the physicality of a Nadal match and how compromised Roger looked.

I had no idea he hated Rafa. I thought Gimelstob was just a sniveling kiss-ass and figured he would happily kiss Rafa's ass as well as anyone else's.
I've been noticing the thinning in Roger's hair since last year and am already used to it, the way I'm now used to Jude Law's.
Glad for Delpo's victory over Murray. I just can't get into Murray's game. Murray was making a ton of errors, but I hope the win helps with Delpo's confidence. I'd hate to see him not fulfill his extraordinary potential. I also didn't know they were good friends. I always like learning that players are friends.

Murray was playing horribly from the start of the tournament so it was a surprise he even got to a third set of a quarterfinal match against a Top 10 player.
But Delpo's match against Djokovic was amazing! For a guy not known for his physical fitness to survive 3 sets against Murray in the heat and then go back out 24 hours later for 3 sets against Djokovic is remarkable. I hope there's something left for Rafa.
In other news, watching the men's doubles final and something about Jerzy Janowicz in this particular adidas outfit makes him look a lot like Safin. He also has a bit of the sarcasm (along with the obvious temperment).

Murray and DelPotro's friendship goes back to their junior days. It took a hit in 2008 when Murray got mad at Del Potro during a match for hitting a ball at him and not apologizing. Del Potro in turn insulted Murray's mother. www.youtube.com/watch?v=muM-UQc_Tnk

Gimelstob did do the interview with Rafa before Chile. Before it aired, Gimelstob kept implying (while calling another match, I can't recall which one) that everything Rafa said in the interview was unbelievable crap.
Since the interview aired, his tune has changed. But this is also the guy who said during one of the French Opens that he didn't believe Rafa could only be with one woman (this was before the brief Xisca breakup), that any man with Rafa's world wide popularity must be sleeping around. I think that was....2007 maybe? Also that Rafa lies when he says he doesn't lift weights and hates running. And that anyone has to wonder if Rafa is juicing.
I think Gimelstob and JMac both kind of hate all the Spaniards, but JMac has gotten over it with Rafa. I can't recall the exact thing, but I have a vague memory of JMac being really insulting about Almagro. Gimelstob has also been really nasty about Feli Lopez. Maybe it stems from something at Davis Cup. Who knows?
Gimelstob seems to only truly like other American players. I know announcers have their favorites. I think it's Matt Cronin who thinks Sharapova can do no wrong. I also thought Mary Carillo, when sober, had a good friendship with Toni Nadal. It's annoying, but super annoying with Gimelstob because he's such an all around douchebag.
Today's final should be interesting. I really like Delpo except when he mopes around the court like Eeyore. I'd be happy to see him win, but I'd like Rafa to get back his hard court confidence and have a great 2013.
(As an aside, I think Jude Law has gotten hotter now that he's older and more seasoned. I never found him particularly sexy when he was younger. )

Thanks for all the info, apocolipstick. Great stuff! I have a few questions: Do you remember what it was in the interview he was saying was crap? Was it about his withdrawal from Oz or his recovery? Figuratively, or does she actually have a problem? I think he is just as gorgeous now as when he was younger. (And I really like him as an actor.) But in "Ripley" he was so luminous he actually approached Paul Newman levels of beauty. (Notice I say "approach." Newman was the gold standard, one I never expect to see approached again.)

The time of the match so far is 33 minutes and the score is only 3-2.
It figures that Delpo would find the most brutal path if he is to win his first Masters title today. Playing Murray, Djokovic and Nadal in best-of-3 in a span of 48 hours sounds like torture.
