Yeah, the Raonic/Feds match was stupefyingly boring. I like both players, but it felt like there was no way Fed would lose, just that he would take FOREVER to win. I ended up not watching after the second set. Raonic later complained of a bum foot, but seriously, dude needs to work on his return game. If he could break even occasionally, he'd be a terror.
Li Na was adorable as always. I'll definitely root for her against Sharapova, but I'm not sure her game can match up against S's power.

Cliff Drysdale's commentary throughout the Ferrer/Almagro match up to 5-4 in the third has been to the effect of "why hasn't Nico won more often". Brad Gilbert has been trying to give clues based off their previous matches... but Cliffy had to see with his own eyes a true Nico implosion, which we are in the middle of right now.
ETA: How do you not laugh at this point? There have been seven breaks of serve in this fourth set so Nico serving for the match (for the third time) means little.
ETA: I never thought I'd feel sorry for Nicolas Almagro but between Berdych's dickishness, the loss to Stepanek and what's happening in this match - yeah, this is pain.

I can't believe Almagro hasn't been able to close this out.

I missed the Williams Women/Italian Donnas doubles match. How did the Ws lose?

They played horribly, harry. Venus served for it in the 2nd and couldn't hold and then Serena served for it and couldn't hold. Then in the 3rd it was more of the same, but Venus kept hitting the ball into the net or over hitting it. Serena made errors too, but mostly Venus. Horrible match to watch, it was ridiculous because they should have won it easily.

I should also add that Serena may have done more damage to her ankle so the match was a total disaster.

Yeah I was trying not to think of that, moon. I hope she's okay. It would absolutely suck if Serena really did mess her ankle up all for nothing. It's the worst I've ever seen them play.

Ugh. The two matches I care most about tonight (men's quarters) are scheduled in such an annoying way for me: Murray/Chardy last during the day and Fed/Tsonga first on at night. How do I sleep around this?

Oh, well. Sveta just lost to Azarenka after playing a really good first half of the first set. She was throwing in great dropshots and other terrific variety, but then just couldn't keep up the level. That said, it's great to see her back to her top ten form. Way to go, Sveta!!!
Now ... go, Sloane! You don't need to beat Serena, but keep it together and have a great match, sweetie. (I get all motherly with these very young ones.)

Yeah I was bummed Sveta couldn't keep it up. I have nothing against Vika(oh wait, YES I DO the goddamn shrieks), but I have a soft spot for Sveta. Still, she did well getting so far unseeded, and like you say it's great to see her coming back into form, she's a quality player.
Also would have loved to see Stan pull it out (major upset!), but that's old news by now.
I want Serena to win, most definitely, but it would be nice if someone gave her a match. Shazza's looking like a good candidate.
And as always, go Fed.

There was a big collective 'C'mon Roger' from Chicago's Union Station with both tiki and I in the same (very cold) place. May it not only help propel him through the match but also help propel me out of MY OWN BED! (/complete self-frustration)
Any news on Serena's ankle?

I hate ESPN. Taking a break for talking heads while play is on going? Typical.
I felt bad for Sveta. She needs to get fit and then she'll hang in there. She looked completely defeated. But she did a great job taking it to 3. Here's to hoping she gets it together at the French.

Well, and a match is being given, at least competitive. Yay Sloane - I mean, I don't want you to actually win, but good on ya. ETA: I like that Serena is actually being challenged, but wow I do hope it's not because of her ankle(I have no idea how it is.)
ESPN - I know, I put on the TV and they were having a little commentator chat, mid-match! It's not like it's been a routine drubbing. The fuck?
Aww, when was that oops? I love the Fed love. I'm fine that not everyone loves him, there are other fine, quality players worthy of being faves, but yes I do love the Fed love.

Serena better get it together. Love Sloane, but I'm not here for her winning today. I'm really invested in Serena this year, in her doing well, and cementing her place in history.
I do think they should have put Murray on at night before the quarters at the very least. He's a two time finalist there. But he should focus on his tennis instead of complaining.
I hope Fed vs Tsonga is competetive and goes the distance.

I am crossing fingers for Serena to pull this out, despite the back issue. While I'm a Sloane fan, she still has issues holding it together mentally... and she's showing it today as well!
