Awwww, Tom is interviewing Marion and they shoot to her dad who makes a blow-out-cheeks expression, they shoot back to Marion and she makes the exact same expression. Ah, family. And speaking of that, acre, I'm sorry about your dad--my dad has been dealing with cancer for a year now and the everyday stress is overwhelming, but I'd rather this than not having him.
I love that they show that walk to the balcony. Really gives a taste of what the champion is feeling.

Are there more behind scenes footage thn there used to be? I absolutely love it and don't remember much from my early years of watching. I rarely watch dubs but might have to watch mixed after Marion's endorsement of Mladenovic

This is an ESPN thing and I love it too. They don't go straight to commercials or straight into the booth. I think it's because they have a bigger window of airtime so they don't rush it. I also see a difference with having a big team that stays for the entire tournament. Instead of the commentators working for the first time on championship weekend they've been together for the whole tournament and I feel like they've been on the same ride I've been on.

Such a good win for Marion. I agree that any qualifiers regarding this win are crap. Marion has, on her day beaten Venus, Serena and Justine Henin. She's never been as consistent as some of the elite players she has beaten, but on any given day she can kick anyone's ass. I've seen it before. I never assume she's going to lose to anyone. I think she's great.
Thank you for sharing your memories with us, acre. My condolences.

BTW, when I saw Marion run to the stands after her win it reminded me that she is SO not a natural athlete. Somehow that has endeared me more to her, in spite of the fact that, on the women's side it's the gifted jocks (Na Li, Serena, Venus, Kuznetsova) that I'm usually naturally drawn to.

Thanks LT. Have been really happy w/ ESPN's coverage including getting both semis. So frustrating to see so much of early rounds only to get drips and drops of RG when NBC had it. Fala should have qualified my "no qualifiers" comment by saying I didn't really expect any here bc you all are cream of the crop As are most of my tennis social media follows BUT there is a lot of junk re: Marion's weight and looks that is making its way into my bubble this morning. UGH

How cute was that? The flailing of the arms.
There is no reason that I should be rooting for Dodig/Melo--I don't particularly like them and the winner of a GS gets an automatic spot in the WTF (I think Max is going to be struggling to qualify and that takes a spot out) but I don't root for the Bryans so I am liking this first set so far. . . I do agree with Brad, this is a five-set match and the Bryans aren't going to panic losing the first set.

That sucks that folks are bad mouthing Marion's weight. I mean, yes, I mentioned it myself but she's just bigger than most elite tennis players, she is not big! In "real life" she's slim, just way more fit and muscular than a non elite athlete.
So good for the Bryan's, I'm not a fan, but that is an impressive feat.
Oh! How does the invitational doubles work, anyway? Fabrice played with Rudzinski yesterday (well, they got a walkover) and I don't see him scheduled again?**
Maybe he and I shall take off for our getaway a day early .... to the blue blue waters, the white sand beaches. Could take at least one day to lounge on the lawns with strawberries and cream, champagne, then the private plane will whisk us off to our island paradise.
**Oh I see, they'll be in the final tomorrow. I'll wait for you Fabrice!

I knew the Brits were insane but one online site is fetching $106,000 for a pair of tickets to the final.
If you want to see the numbers telling a story, the magic number is 7: 77 years since Fred Perry's win, 1977 was the year Virginia Wade won, 7th GS final for Murray, tomorrow's date will be 7/7, Novak going for his 7th GS title.

I turned it on but they were covering the horrible plane crash out in San Francisco. I hope those people are somehow all right.
They've started to cover the match in the second set. I will make sure to see all I can on the ABC replay tonight.
acre, so sorry about your father, though I am glad you had him so long and shared tennis with him. My sympathies to you and your father also lt.

I am incredibly disappointed that ABC cut away for one hour to cover the plane crash. Yes, it is a terrible tragedy, buy they kept reporting the same scant bit of information available ad nauseam. Meanwhile, all of the other network stations were broadcasting their previously scheduled programming until further details were available.
Congrats to Marion. I find her on court demeanor to be off-putting, but she always comes across as a very nice and pleasant young lady in her interviews.
I can't wait for the men's finale tomorrow- go Andy.

Sorry if this is off-topic, but my gratitude to ABC for re-playing this and allowing me to show it to my children just evaporated with the commercials being broadcast. WTF? I just don't understand how these things are decided and why there aren't different parameters for 4:45 pm on a Saturday during a tennis broadcast. I know what I must sound like, but because I don't watch much commercial TV, I am a bit stunned.
Thank goodness for my European feeds - so very different.

Oh my goodness. My viagogo account has been emailing me about Wimbledon but I haven't looked to see what the tickets were going for. I'm totally going on now to see. eta: just looked and I could get some decent 200 level sideline seats for $5,500 a piece but most are going for over $11,000 a piece.
That is fascinating--I love that sort of stuff.
Neither can I! Hopefully for better reason than today although seeing Marion's pure joy has made it all worthwhile to me. What a champion. And go Andy from me as well.
oops, what commercials? I had it on in the background but I was working so I wasn't paying attention. Don't tell me it was that Gillette commercial? That one is a bit. . . well, suggestive, for daytime viewing if it isn't a soap opera. Speaking of commercials, I'm so sick of Andre Agassi putting down the sport that gave him everything in his life--"solitary confinement" Bah!

I'm not ready to see that one - confession, I've been doing photography for decades but I've never bought a Canon SLR because I hated Andre's commercials for them *that* much. Silly? Maybe but think twice Madison Avenue.
Back to OT - I am very happy for Marion. She's nothing if not unconventional and I think that's very good for the women's game. I have yet to watch most of my Tivo recording but looking forward to it.
