JMac is kind of a dick. It's how he rolls.
I would hate on Federer's first serve...if it were there for me to hate.

You know what, Mary Carillo? I think if Roger loses and walks off this court he's going to know that he fought fucking hard and sometimes you fucking lose. And that you tie up the laces to play as much as to win. Bitch.

I'm on a lucky streak. I now predict that Safina won't win a single slam next year. Nor will Clijsters. And Henin won't be back either.
Take that, 2010!
What did he say?

Don't make me double post, people...
Oh look. It's what.. less than an hour after the end of the match and already i've seen a "Federer is finished" thread elsewhere. I know half of these people are probably just trolling, but Jesus..
And you know when *I* am irritated by anti Fed nonsense that it's getting ridiculous.

More reinforcement of my rule never to stray beyond this great space.
And I think JMac was commenting that Roger couldn't just rely on his talent to pull him through all the time. Something like that. The inference that he just sloughs off and coasts is such a JMac thing to say. Anyway.

I hope you're right about Henin admin! The Fed is finished idea is laughable, he already has come back from losing at Wimbledon. Looking at his year I am so happy that he was able to win the French first and the Wimbledon after. He didn't serve well tonight and JM played very well but Roger isn't going anywhere. ETA: I hate CBS for not updating their programming with 3 days' notice. Now my DVR is discombobulated and won't record anything

I hate Dick Enberg for not letting JMDP say a few words in Spanish. Whether it's his first slam or 50th, he deserves to be able to say a few words to those who supported him back home.

I was annoyed by Enberg at first but I think it was more him not hearing del Potro the first time and trying to move the ceremony along, because after del Potro asked the second time it seemed that Enberg realized he was asking to speak to his family back home and gave him the mic. Maybe an organizer made him do that, but I think Enberg's response had more to do with del Potro's demeanor than him being a jerk and not wanting to let the guy have his moment, since, in the end, del Potro did speak to his family back home.

I don't think it was Enberg being a jerk, but I do think it was Enberg caring more about the schedule than about giving deference to the guy who just fought his way to the title. They spend all that time allowing sponsors to give little speeches and announcing how much money they were giving JMdP, meanwhile, I get that the sponsors make it all possible, but JMdP should be the most important person in that stadium for the 10 or so minutes that the ceremony is going on. Enberg probably did have someone screaming in his ear to move things along, but I think it's disrespectful both on his part and the network's part to not give him a few seconds to say what he wants. So they cut into the rerun of "How I met your friggin' mother" by a few seconds, who cares?

I think you hit the nail on the head fala. The thing is too, Juan did not seem particularly interested in the money (as evidenced by his intent to buy cheecake with his winnings) and although I realise you have to pay respect to the sponsors, the winner is being honoured at that moment. It was such a contrast to the interviews after womens' final where the runner up spoke in three languages.

Another reason to think that maybe CBS and NBC should just drop tennis and let ESPN2 take over the middle and final weekends. I don't think I missed a thing of Kim's celebration. Even down to the happy family getting loads of pictures taken of them. Of course the argument is whether that would hurt tennis but the greatest heyday of tennis in the states before the late 80s/90s was when everything was on PBS and I don't think ESPN2 can be considered harder to find than CBS or NBC. Is it a channel I can see in a hotel room when I travel? That's a good channel.
eta: I'm always uncomfortable by the check presentation. If it was a big novelty check it wouldn't feel like I was intruding on someone being paid but that's the actual check--and it feels weird to watch the transaction.

lt, I know what you mean. I wish it were a giant novelty check so it wouldn't seem so awkward. I think the players feel like it's awkward too, you know? I think it's smart to show the awards ceremony. For the casual fan, that's as much a part of it as the sport, so it makes sense to let them "get to know" the players, their family (like how we all recognize Mr. Federer and Mirka) etc.

So Serena has issued three apologies now and I think that's more than enough. Some people have really lost their minds over this. It's like she killed someone, yet Dante Stallworth who did kill someone, was never this maligned. What she did was disgusting and over the top, but how long is this going to drag on?
I get that the ITF is investigating and knowing how they are Serena just might get suspended and if it were for a couple of tournaments in the fall I'd be okay, but this talk about taking her out the Grand Slams is too much.
And all this talk about kids thinking this behavior is okay is fucking stupid! They're all "Think of the children!!!!!" If you're a parent and you're actively having your kids emulate sports figures then, come on, people snap and make mistakes all the time, especially sports figures. But you'd think as a parent you'd take this as a lesson learning experience for your kids on how it's not okay to behave that way and to admit when you're wrong and apologize. And to teach that sometimes an apology isn't enough and impressions such as this can be lasting, do be careful with your words and find a better way to air your frustrations.
And that kinda sounded bad like there are no sports figures to look up to, which isn't true, but people can't expect role models to be the only ones to teach their children right and wrong or how to behave properly. That would be the parents job.
Anyway most people seem to think her apologies are insincere and won't budge on finding forgiveness. But I don't want her apology because she didn't do anything to me, as a tennis fan, as a sports fan, I know people lose their tempers and do all kinds of things in the heat of the moment.
Sorry for the rambling rant but I'm getting sick of hearing about this and it's like she's gotta write out her apology in blood or something for people to accept it. Or die with an apology on her lips.
