Anyone around and watching Indian Wells? Nadal dismantled Berrer. I felt bad for him. But Yay! Marty Shortsocks is out. Monfils. Gah. Lost to ISNER of all people. I just want to shake him. Loving the understated announcers on TTC. No Gimel! On the Fed baby news, I'm not fussed about it. With all of his struggles last year and the AO emotional breakdown, it could be a huge distraction. I can't see that this would have been planned for them. The timing is just dreadful for his career. It's not like he's that old and his bio clock is ticking either. He and Mirka have years in which to start a family. It also seems that this is the time he will really need a full time coach. Mirka won't be able to travel as much, nor will she be physically able to sit in the stands watching. Good gravy. Can you imagine 9 months along at Wimbeldon? She'd be absolutely miserable. Or even worse, what if her due date is in August in the miserable heat of Cincinnati? Roger is definitely going to need a support system other than Mirka. She'll no longer be able to do all that she currently does for him. Just rotten timing for Roger, but hey, when the universe says you're having a baby, you are almost stuck with it They just switched to Fat Dave v. Kendrick. I've seen Dave looking fatter. Maybe it's a good sign.

Gah - I had Monfils going to the semis in my ATP Bracket Pool. No Tennis Warehouse prizes for me.
Did anyone who speaks Spanish see Ferrer play today? What a little potty mouth. Odd, because he is so soft spoken off of the court. I don't know why I think it's so funny when he swears a blue streak on the court. There are some players about whom I would find that really off putting.

Just watched Koellerer/Roddick, and I have to say, even though I don't want to - I kinda like Koellerer. The crowd seems to like him as well, which is saying something considering he's playing an American. It's obvious he has some wires crossed in his brain, but he's kinda fun-crazy. Not scary-crazy like Kiefer circa 2005/2006. I still remember Agassi looking at him with genuine fear in his eyes. He's mellowed as he's gotten older, but there was a time not too long ago where his elevator didn't even come close to reaching the top floor.
Coincidentally, Kiefer is who Roddick has to play next.

So, Cahill coaching with the Adidas Development Program. It is so weird how stuff happens: Andre marries Steffi. Steffi really likes her relationship with Adidas. Andre moves over to Adidas from Nike because Adidas offers better support for his charities. Andre retires. Every single person in the Agassi "family" goes on to work at the Development Program. Many happy tennis players. Me, really happy and would switch to Adidas shoes if they were more comfortable. (They're not, Brooks wins hands down.)
I haven't seen Koellerer but I think I'm going to have to look him up. Today's matches could be interesting. I hope I'm home in time to watch Federer/Karlovic and crossing fingers that Gonzo can take care of Blake. Wish Feli/Fer had done better in doubles, happy Max and Andy won their first match and REALLY wish Roger/Allegro had not lost so badly to those brothers.

I can't see that this would have been planned for them. The timing is just dreadful for his career. It's not like he's that old and his bio clock is ticking either. He and Mirka have years in which to start a family. Mirka is a little older than Fed. She's 31, he's 27. Not that 31 is old at all-- but perhaps they want to have more than one child, and if that's the case then now is probably a good time for them to start. Especially if Fed wants to play until his early 30s as he has stated, it's a good idea for them to start their family before he retires, rather than go for several kids when Mirka is on the other side of 35. I think this is wonderful news for them, but I do think it will be a distraction for Fed on the tennis court. I think he'll tie Sampras' record but winning multiple slams with babies in the mix is a tall order. I wish we knew when Mirka is due, since there are two slams during the summer, but they are being vague.

Does anyone else think the BNP Paribas commercial is in poor taste? I'm thinking of the one where all of the fans run onto the court. Seeing bystanders run onto a red clay court just makes me think of the Seles stabbing.
Apparently, I can watch IW on the MSG+ channel. I don't have TTC, so this is the first time I've heard Gimelstob doing commentary; I'm not impressed. Davenport, on the other hand, sounds intelligent and insightful, though I'm not sure if that's just in comparison to Gimelstob.
I still can't believe Jankovic out on so much muscle in the offseason that she totally fucked up her game. She reached the final of the USO, won 3 tournaments in a row, and finished the year at #1. Who told her that she needed to bulk up?
Verdasco is playing very well. He's killing Gasquet out there with huge forehands and backhands. If he can keep this up, he has to be one of the favorites to win the tournament.

Understatement of the century. And I know I ask this every time Gimelstob speaks, but what does he have against the Spaniards? He pulled out that same, tired "spends all his time in front of the mirror" for Fer that he always does for Feli. Sad.
I liked Lindsay's commentary during the Ivanovic match but it cracked me right up when MSG+ (acting as SNY) said the "daytime tennis was over" just because they were going off the air. I'm keeping an eye on the Fed match from channelsurfing.

I don't know but it's just another reason for me not to like him. I would die laughing if we ended up with semi finals of Nada/Ferrer and Verdasco/Robredo. Gimelstob's head would explode.
Speaking of Spaniards, Robredo is up a set over Cilic. Tommy has been having a good year.
ITA - Robredo won. I wonder if Gimelstob ran on to the court screaming in protest?

Does the Gimel hate the Spaniards or does he hate any non-American that does well with women? When he was saying nasty things about Fer, I figured Ana I. had turned Gimel down and it was the jealousy talking.
I have this image of Gimel smarming around tournaments and asking the attractive female players out, but always getting turned down. Then, he goes back to his frat boy friends (Roddick, the Bryans and Shortsocks) and calls the woman a lesbian or fat bitch for turning him down. When he finds out that woman is dating another non-American player, he does his best to insult that player by calling him a media whore pretty boy. And that sums up my image of Justin Gimelstob.
I'm stuck watching on FSN now. UGH. I do like Lindsay though. I keep wanting her to smack Gimel.

That sounds incredibly plausible--I'll guess that he also doesn't like all the very-much-appreciated shirtless/nude shots (because they are appreciated--not because they are nude) and that is all of the Spaniards so we hear his dislike for the Spaniards the most. But what am I hearing about Fer and Camilla Belle? That's just wrong (not that I have anything against Belle--I'm not too aware of her at all). I was so pleased to see Cahill in Fer's box and I'm really happy that I missed Belle there.
On the doubles side--Max and Andy beat Bhupathi and Knowles! It has been so long since Max has been able to beat Mahesh that this tournament is now a success. And Dlouhy/Paes went down to del Potro and Nalbandian--a pleasant surprise. Tommy and Gonzo are in the round of 16 as well--happy me.

Well...apparently Verdasco and 'lil Caroline Wozniacki are an item. He's in her player's box anyways, and Eurosport commentators claimed they were together. That was fast! A minute ago he was Ivanovic's accessory. Do we have a new Radek on tour? (albeit a much better looking version). I think Wozniacki's still only 18 or so.

Wow, that would be a surprise--googling turned up absolutely nothing on that pair and, coupled with her being another Adidas player, I'm going to keep my eye on it but figure it for a not true for now. And 18? That's kinda creepy.

Hmmm....ya know, before Fernando was connected to any of those women, Rafa was. All of them in various ways. Ana trained in Mallorca and had lunch with him, and they were seen walking around the grounds in Beijing. There were rumors about Rafa and Caroline last year, which were completely false (even though Caroline did nothing to help matters). And last year at the US Open, I remember seeing some pics of Rafa and Camilla at the players party. Maybe there's a bigger story here. Or maybe I've watched Single White Female too many times...

I thought that Camilla Belle was dating a Jonas brother? (I admit to zero knowledge of the Jonas brothers but I have a 17 year old niece.)
On the dating gossip, I heard that Rafa and his long term girlfriend Xisca broke up. Now she's dating Miguel Moya, a Spanish soccer dude. He's pretty hot. Just rumors though.
I'm glad y'all think my Gimel image is plausible.
Last night, I had the Safin/Isner match playing on my upstairs computer, not horribly loud, but I could tell people were talking. However, I could hear Safin's shots distinctly. Like a canon coming off his racket. Too bad he's out.

Ugh. Fer was doing so nicely in the 1st set and now he looks like he'll be breadstick-ed (it's a word) in the second.
