I thought we could introduce ourselves here and let people know if we had a different TWOP name.
I have the same name on TWOP. I've been watching grand slam tennis practically since birth, but I only started really following tennis in about the mid-90s. My favorite players of all time (I limited myself to five each-it was hard) are:
Women 1. Martina Navratilova 2. Venus Williams 3. Serena Williams 4. Jennifer Capriati 5. Kim Clijsters
Men 1. Guga 2. Patrick Rafter 3. Juan Carlos Ferrero 4. John McEnroe 5. Todd Martin
I'll leave you with a great Chris Evert quote: Random player after losing: "Thank god my happiness doesn't depend on winning tennis matches." Chris Evert: "Thank god mine does."

I'm MarenAte over on TWoP. I'm thrilled with a new board. The only place I post on TWoP any more is in the Tennis Forum because I've gone against the grain and gotten warned, etc. (How can it be WITHOUT PITY if I can't openly insult a media whore child that for some reason a moderator found adorable? Hmmm?) You can see I'm still pissed about it Anyway, what inspired the whole Storm Trooper post editing? Did someone complain about the forum? If you read back for the past 2 years of the forum, it's almost been completely open on topic. So, is this forum open to cursing, etc? I don't actually curse when talking to people, but typing it out in rants really feels good

I've got the same TWOP names as well.
Been following tennis since the mid 80's, at 33 I'm old enough to have attended both The Virginia Slims and Nabisco Masters at Madison Square Garden in NYC.
Look forward to chatting with all of you b/c I don't have many real life tennis fan friends.

I have the same name at TWOP as well. I think it's very hard to talk about tennis coverage without actually talking about tennis, so I'm SO GLAD that we have another place to chat that's reasonably friendly.

Dorkgirl on TWOP too. I've been watching tennis casually since i can remember, but really took an interest when Yevgeny Kafelnikov took my eye when i was about 13 Oh, i adored that grumpy gus. Oooh, current players i enjoy (in no real order): Women : Martina Hingis, Venus Williams, most of the crazy Russians (Zvonarava, Safina) that drive me nuts. Men : Marat Safin, Fabrice Santoro, Andy Murray (bit of love/hate there), anyone who can challenge Federer seriously.

I'm lpatrice, known as lpatrice on the Princess boards and shellsandcheese on TWOP. Can't believe the mods decided to give the tennis thread the smack down.
My favorite players tend to be the crafty ones and the hot ones. I love love love Federer. Love Martina Hingis and Venus Williams. And I love everyone's favorite uber talented headcase: Marat Safin. I was very impressed by the all the young ladies (teens) who knocked out all those seeded players yesterday. That was awesome.

Hello all.
KFC here. I post sporadically on the TWOP boards. But it's US Open time, so I've more than made up for lost time browsing the tennis thread.
I've tried the ATP/WTA World Forums, but they're a little too fanboy/fangirly for my taste.
But definitely check out the sites for tennis vids.
Current players I enjoy:
Men - Gasquet, Baggy, Federer (though I prefer when he's challenged) Women - Ivanovic, Mauresmo, Davenport (I refuse to believe her comeback will be shortlived)

Sapienta on the TWOP boards also. I know that logic is hard and all but how can one talk about coverage without talking matches or players or anything like that? And someone did report the thread which is why Strega came charging in and started deleting. I'm in love with tennis and more than that, I love players who appreciate the game and play well. At least try to look ike you want to be there. Which explains my frustration towards Marat Safin. So good, and yet it's like he's over it or something. So with the exception of Marat, who I only enjoy when I'm in the mood for a little S&M (which isn't often enough , I love Men - Federer (that was a given), Djokovic, Nadal (it's kinda grudging at this point) Women - Ivanovic, Venus (not Serena), Peer, and that chick who beat Sharapova yesterday is my new hero.

;D I just hate it when a thread is reported! I honestly don't understand the "issues," but whatever. It's a new day! I'm thepolice! My favorite players of all time is probably Guga Kuerten for the men, and for the women--that's tough. I'm starting to really admire Venus more and more. I was a huge Steffi Graf fan, too. But I guess I just really love the Williams sisters... I also supported Jennifer there for a while. I actually pretty much like them all--except Henin, but I'm getting over my irrational dislike of her, too. P.S. regarding the men, I also loved Andre, Sampras.. There are just too many to name. But Guga will always have a special place in my heart. I'm so glad more people are signing-up for this site! It's just too confusing over at TWoP. P.S. S. I've played tennis for most of my life. My mom was a tennis champion in high school, so we all played from a very young age. I never formally competed except sometimes at the club level. But tennis remains one of my passions! edited because I mixed up my "emotions.."

And in that special way I have I want to go have a chat with this person. . . But, that is neither here nor there.
I'm still LT, only little. I've been watching tennis since I was old enough to pay attention to my folks watching it on PBS in the late 70s. Andre was my favorite but I was really surprised that my enjoyment has not been diminished one iota with his retirement. If anything, it might be increased because I don't have to worry about what he's up to (and even I didn't want to see the same Agassi match repeated 15 times).
As for playing. . .I stink. I took lessons my entire youth and never got any good. I still love to play and a real stress reliever for me is to hit as hard as I can against a ball machine. I, too, don't have too many tennis fan friends and the ones who are fans don't seem to have the urgency to talk about it all the time--but I do.

And someone did report the thread which is why Strega came charging in and started deleting. That's just ridiculous. But I guess that's how some people get there kicks. Let's see...my name's the same as it is on the "other" board. I've been watching tennis for years but only really got into it a few years ago. I play purely for fun, but if I had the chance I'd probably go back and at least try to compete. FavouritesCurrent Men: Federer, Lopez, Tipsarevic, (this changes on probably an hourly basis) Current Women: Jankovic, Ivanovic, Safina, Davenport Retired Men: Too many to name, but both Borg and McEnroe are up there Retired Women: Navratilova, Graf, Slams: Wimbledon (I love the now-gimmicky tradition), US Open (being able to get home from class at 10:15 pm and still watch live tennis) Commentators: John McEnroe, Chris Fowler, Darren Cahill

Someone reported the thread? Honestly, the tennis thread was a real model of decorum and civility compared to most of the other threads out there and I didn't see anything that necessitated such a severe blackout.
Anway, I still have the same TWOP name and I've been a tennis fan for ages.
Favorite male players are:
1. Federer 2. Rafter 3. Safin 4. Santoro 5. Gasquet 6. Rios 7. Llodra
There are very few male players who I don't like and if I don't like them, it's mainly because I find their games boring or I'm not a fan of their techniques. However, I will make an exception for Dmitry Tursunov because the man is just immensely funny.
Not really a fan of women's tennis, I think there's far too much talk/hype and way too few nice-looking strokes, although I do admit to being a fan of Mauresmo and Juju.

Hey people. Whyistherumgone here, same name as on TWOP.
My favorite players are:
Men: Nadal, Federer (those two aren't really in any particular order, I'm one of the odd ones that loves them both equally...just for different reasons), Ferrer, Feliciano Lopez, Ferrero (pretty much the entire Spanish Armada), Monaco. I could go on for days.
Women: Venus Williams, Ivanovic, sometimes Jankovic (she bugs me sometimes)

Seltzer4. Same name. I guess my posts broke a bunch of rules apparently since half of them are deleted lol.
I just started getting into tennis 2/3 years ago.
I guess I'm a bit "extreme" with my love for all the asian players (Na Li, Hyung Taik Lee, Paradorn Srichaphan, Sugiyama). I'm just excited that tennis is getting so diverse in the world and pissed of that ESPN/CBS never shows the diversity (Its not all about USA ESPN). Hopefully we get some good players from Africa some time soon.
I love players that are good slicers, drop shots, lobs. I favor players with more finesse and do more volleys than power servers.
Males-Federer, Gasquet, Youzhny, Lee, Srichaphan, Tipsarevic (More of because he has such awesome glasses, and i have a wierd hetero man crush on him. The guy is fighter too.) (I'm starting to warm to Nadal and Young though). Females-Na Li, Ivanovic, Jankovic, Hingis even if she annoys me, Mauresmo (new favorite, girl who just beat Sharapova)

Seltzer4, it's okay to have a hetero mancrush on Janko. He sticks all that stuff to his face, marks up his body, calls it a phase and looks at you with these big soft brown eyes. Then he takes you to five sets and wins. When he's healthy. However, your crush on Janko is but a grain of sand while mine is a five mile long stretch of white sandy beach. If you want Shirtless Janko, one of my favorite things, go here. farm2.static.flickr.com/1065/1304868278_4e5333f1d0.jpg
