I finally registered. A belated thanks for the PM on the Twop board. I saw this on Yahoo and it seems that Serena still doesn't get what was wrong with her post-match comments at the Open. The good news is that she sounds motivated again. Let's hope it sticks, but she really needs to get a clue about how to be a more gracious loser. sports.yahoo.com/ten/news?slug=reu-womenserena_interview_pix&prov=reuters&type=lgns

Serena just makes me grind my teeth. For some reason, I haven'tt gotten over my like for her in spite of all the reasons to dislike her, but she sure does make it hard. A troubling article regarding the ongoing questions about match fixing. Most troubling is Andy's statement: God, I hope he's just shooting off at the mouth, because the way he's talking it sounds like more than just a few isolated incidents.

But I can see we are not going to agree on this. Probably not but let's bring this discussion back again when we see the Shanghai results in November, deal?

So... Sharapova, Jankovic, Bartoli, and Mauresmo all lost today.
Sharapova's overratedness is really beginning to show. Jankovic should really just stop playing every single tournament of the year.

Oh geez, why is Jankovic even playing in Bangkok? Venus is doing a tour of Asia, but Jankovic had to fly from Germany last week. And then she retires in her first match from exhaustion. Her schedule is just ridiculous. She has to be getting some hidden appearance fee money, because it just makes no sense.

I'm not sure about her being overrated, but wow; this is a very interesting turn of events. Maria is currently #7 in the women's race, and with Venus playing this week, she'll probably drop to #8. I wonder if Hantuchova is kicking herself for not playing this week, because if she had, she could very well have taken the #8 spot. And here I thought the women's top 8 was pretty much set.
Plus she's got almost 500 ranking points to defend during the rest of the regular season to Venus and Serena's 0, so if the slump continues . . . although history would tend to make you think she'll come back strong after this loss. I guess we'll see.
Jankovic is getting a little crazy. She's basically played every week since Wimby except for weeks when there wasn't a tournament being played. It seems like now would be the time to take a break since she locked down her spot in the finals weeks ago. She's got to be burnt out. I'll bet she makes a poor showing at the Aussy next year.

Jankovic is getting a little crazy. Getting? That girl seriously needs someone to sit her down and explain what she's doing to herself. Going to Bangkok was absolutely insane. I guess at least she listened to the doctor and didn't try to play through, but just being there was complete folly.

I have to say that I really love Venus' natural hair style at Bangkok. It's so much better than those hideous bangs she had at the Wimbledon ball.

amarathe, thanks so much for the pictures, I agree that she looks great and that it suits her.
I'm glad that Venus is rockin' her natural hair do, and I'm sure her scalp is glad for the break as well!

Since we're discussing Venus' look, I really like her clothing line. Everything seems like a good mix of classic and modern, and it's all really body flattering. Of course part of that could be the fact that she has a near-perfect body, but still, it looks great. As for the hair, I like it a little better down, but it's definitely nice natural.

Aww, Youzhny lost (who the hell is Michael Berrer?). Tiki is here for you, Mikhail. Count me among those who think Venus looks fantastic with the natural. I have really curly hair myself (Irish afro -- I-fro?) and have always left it natural. It's much better and healthier all-around. And Jankovic? She's worse than insane as far as her career is concerned -- she's bone stupid, and so is everyone around her. I don't love her game, and can't stand her personality, but it's still a big old waste of talent. So I'm sitting here ignoring my in-box, trying to come up with some silly Halloween-themed poll to entertain everyone (::cue fleeting glimpse of Marat as the devil: and I'm totally blank...

Hee, I'm double-posting! And posting during a match! I feel so deliciously evil. Anyway, I can't get this match on TV, but I have a (presumably) live scoreboard up, and Chela is giving Djokovic a run for his money; it's on serve in the third set. Is anyone lucky enough to be watching this? Oh well. Chela lost 7-2 in the third set tiebreak. Nice try, though. And apparently Djokovic is growing some truly strange facial hair -- see the BA-CA website at: www.bacatennistrophy.at/en/home.html?mn=0Eek.

Zi Yan makes it to another semifinal. Okay, it was a walkover, but still.

So Blake lost a tight one today. Hopefully he'll be able to pick up the intensity for next week.
Did anyone get to see the Venus match? I'm curious to find out why she lost.
