Same as before. Give your vote for the player you think had the most impressive year. Take into consideration anything you like.

Rafa. No brainer. French, Wimby, Olympic Gold. New #1.

Yeah, I kind of figured this poll would be a lot less of a toss-up. Funny thing is , I had forgotten that Rafa won the Olympics until I reviewed his stats for the year yesterday. As much as commentators have been mentioning and re-stating that Dementieva won on the women's side, Rafa's win has been kind of under the radar.

That may partly be due to the fact that it's the biggest title she's ever won. In fact it's the only big title she's ever won...so it stands out. For Rafa, he won the Gold medal just a short time after pulling off the amazing FO/Wimbledon double, so it's overshadowed a bit. I did hear commentators mention it towards the end of the year, when they were rattling off everything he won this year. Usually last on the list, but usually with a tone of 'all that and he won a Gold medal', so it's not totally forgotten. I voted for Rafa, because if you list everyone's accomplishments this year - there is no one even close.

I went in a completely different direction--Rafa had the best year (absolutely and good for him) but it was on a nice path from where he was last year. His trajectory has been steady. I picked JMdP because he could have become a journeyman (well, not with his talent but you just never know) and instead, bam! Here's to hoping next year continues in the same vein. I could have picked Murray for almost the same reason--guys who come up to the fork in the road and end up taking the correct turn.
