Tommy Haas has become an American citizen. He looks so happy in the pictures (and handsome in his suit). btw: if anyone is in the mood--justin.tv has the Lopez/Ram match going on now in SA.

Thanks lt, I did watch some of it. The commentators were laughing at Lopez because he walks around the court so lethargically. They said if he slowed it down anymore he would just stop and they were shocked when he actually smiled at something. I have to agree. I don't know why he's so different playing doubles though.
ETA - there is a rather endearing video of Lopez on the ATP website where he is playing tennis with a bunch of wee ones in South Africa. Unfortunately, he is wearing the pink and turquoise shorts with matching t-shirt.

Awwww, I'm so gooey that this poll result made me happy: Tennis produces the most positive role models.breezy, the commentators really liked Feli, didn't they? They kept going on and on about "this is why he's in the top 40" and "such beautiful tennis." They were a bit gushy.

Here's another shot from that Calvin Klein photo shoot. I'm sure all the photography buffs here will enjoy the composition, and the use of negative space. ;D Also, Gototennis has some more photos, and a video from the shoot.

Heeeee, Fernando Verdasco: doing what he must to bring tennis popularity back to tennis in the US. Taking one for the team, that's our Fer. (Actually, I hope Calvin Klein doesn't just keep their respective guys to their respective countries. How much would it suck if instead of Verdasco and Nakata we got stuck with huge billboards of that idiotic Twilight kid? Although, considering I walk through Times Square every day going to work maybe it would be a good thing that I don't get distracted and end up late for work every morning.)
Meanwhile, Feli is in his first final for a couple of years, going for only his second tour win and I cannot find live streaming anywhere. *sigh* And he's currently up a set and a break. If he holds on I would really have loved to see his reaction when he won live.
eta: I hope this means something for the upcoming year for Feli--old Feli would have a hard time closing out a 5-1 lead, even against a qualifier.

Feli won, which is exciting. Too bad I didn't come here earlier or I could have pointed you to a stream. I did watch although it wasn't great quality. Next time try www.livescorhunter.com. There are usually a ton of links there. Right now I'm watching Kuznetsova melt down at the Fed Cup. I'm also going to go blind if I keep watching. Everything is so pink. Everything!

Man, you guys. TikiBoy's gonna think I'm at a softcore site instead of a tennis forum.

On Sundays I usually watch Classic Tennis on ESPN Classic. Today was the 1989 US Open quarterfinals between Conners and Agassi. Now I was never a big fan of Agassi and his jean shorts and big hair but I felt awful for him watching this match. The crowd was absolutely horrendous to him. They cheered every error and fault he made. Were people really this fond of Conners or was it just because he was old? I personally loathed Conners and was shocked to thousands of people cheering rabidly for him against another American.

Is it just me or does Mehcad Brooks look like his smuggling a bigger Buggie? Heh, still love ya Feli.
Anyone see Christian Rinaldo's Amarni spread? He didn't look half as good as Feli or Mehcad. Overly photoshopped, to the point where he looked like MJ. Seriously.

Does "buggie" mean what I think it means? I'm adding it to my vocabulary. I love studying foreign languages!

Eh, Agassi was as big a douchebag as Connors back then, and not as famous, so they stuck with the jerk they knew. The match that made me sad was the Connors/Krickstein match in '91. Connors was in full dick-mode that day and the spectators ate it up. Then he pulled his dickiest move ever claiming "this is what they want..." to the TV camera, like he was just obliging the fans instead of encouraging and lapping up every minute himself. Ugh. So gross.

Buggie is a bird yes. And we call bathers, or jocks, buggie smugglers. Is that a term you guys are familiar with?

No, I've never heard the term 'buggie', it's not used here, but I love it. A lot of people call speedo bathing suits 'banana hammocks'. There are probably other terms that I can't think of right now.
They play that clip ad nauseum, and I always assumed that he was referring to the play that was going on, I didn't know that he was referring to his acting out between points. It's a shame he was such an asshole, because he added a lot to the game otherwise.
