Yeah, I read some of the comments too. It's not surprising. It's no different than what the Williams sisters go through all the time. It's sad really!!! Tennis is no longer a Lilly White game, get over it.
Anyway, Pam Shriver just interviewed the tournament director about what happened in the Monfils/Fognini match. And it looks like my later analysis was correct and Cahill and PMac were completely wrong.
The tournament director said that at 4/4, he had decided to call the match, but that BOTH players decided that they wanted to play on. So he conceded and allowed for the match to continue. Fognini then changed his mind after receiving coaching (which is illegal, right?). The tournament director basically said that he wasn't going to change the ruling just because Fognini changed his mind.
Anyway, I've had a complete reversal on this. I was SOO pissed at the tournament director, Monfils and the French crowd for "cooking' the situation. But, if Fognini changed his mind AFTER receiving illegal coaching, then too bad so sad, he should have played on. His point penalty was completely warranted. In fact, if his little rant toward the chair umpire after the match included any untoward words, he should be defaulted. Sorry, but I can't stand cheating.
Furthermore, I hated that PMac and Cahill took sides on this without knowing the facts. They should really recant their words and apologize for making a snap judgment. Their assessment made Monfils and the Tournament director look worse than they were.

I could tell by the first game that Monfils was going to lose he looked completely exhausted. It's a bit of pay back for last year and that Roddick match and the crap he pulled.
It was funny though how fast Fognini's people got out of there. That crowd was hostile.
Tomorrow should be an awesome day of tennis barring no rain delays. Rafa, Roger, Venus, Tsonga, Verdasco, etc. No more rain please!
grandslam Fognini played some amazing shots and the rallies went about 26 shots average. Monfils was panting after every rally, bent over at the knees as he's wont to do. He just seemed so tired at 7-8 serving to make it even and seemed to get a little lazy even though he was up 30-love and ended up losing serve and the match. Typical Monfils, unfortunately.

So Monfils lost? I'm at work and have had the scoreboard open all day but never saw that match displayed. However, comments on the RG home page now indicate that he lost. Did anyone see the final set?
ETA: Just saw your post, skyz. I guess there must have been a scoreboard glitch.

Boy, Andy and Isner must be thrilled they finished their matches out before complete darkness fell. Is anyone stuck playing for three days?
Francie picked a good day to not be able to watch. Tomorrow is going to be insane. So insane that the OoP isn't even up yet. If I was in Roland Garros scheduling I'd be rubbing my hands in glee saying "I can do this. I can figure this out."
'fraid I cannot avoid Yahoo! and all of their stories end up with comments like that.

Boy, Andy and Isner must be thrilled they finished their matches out before complete darkness fell. Is anyone stuck playing for three days? They've got about 20-30 minutes of play left, I'd imagine, but I think all the matches going on right now started today and not yesterday. Ljubi and Fish weren't holdovers from yesterday were they? I don't think so.

It's probably wrong, but I stay on Rezai's side through all of these situations. She keeps calling out people who say crap about her so I say good for her. Speaking of the major grunter/screamer, what happened to de Brito? I haven't been aware of her in a while. They've posted the OoP for tomorrow. Yikes. Hope there is no rain because it's a crazy one. If weather.com is correct there is no chance of rain tomorrow and it looks pretty cool in the morning and only getting to the high 60s in the afternoon. eta: speaking of the women behaving cattily, Down The Line put together some of the Ana and Jelena post match Q&A about Jelena imitating Ana in Madrid.

Of course, I have a massive amount of things to do tomorrow morning and can't be assured of watching Rafa. But French of my balls, ESuckPN is showing Federer/Falla. AGAIN. Gah. Replay the end of Fognini/Monfils, you giant bags of lose!
A lot of the WTA girls seem young and bratty. It's like they've not had a chance to mature and become women. Didn't Shriekapova stalk Ferrero at one point? And I think chicks fall for the Ugliest Ugh That Ever Held a Racquet, Radek Stepanek, because he shows them positive attention. These girls are sheltered and coddled and pushed by their coaches. They don't develop personal confidence and grace. Bartoli is particularly isolated by her creepy father who doesn't let her have things like friends.
I would, however, watch Real Players of the WTA. Make them share hotel rooms and eat dinner together. I can see Vee and 'Rena saying to each other "Were we ever that young and catty?" Sveta would be the laid back one trying to ignore it all. They'd unite against Henin and ostracize her. She wouldn't notice.
HAH. I suspect a similar ATP show wouldn't go over too well. I would enjoy hours of shirtless Spaniards playing video games, but not everyone would.

Just about everyone here would. I'd prefer a naked Verdasco channel myself.

You're talking about my dreams. No clue why, but I tend to dream about Fer a lot. Don't know how I got so lucky. . . (but it might have something to do with those visualization lessons we're taught in yoga).

Off topic and just odd, I dream about Lenny Kravitz. Sometimes it's sex dreams, but we always just make out, get hot and get interrupted. Other times he's holding a knife to my throat threatening to kill me. There is usually a gargoyle somewhere in the background. I'm just saying...

I vote for them to play in towels. There is one of Moya playing against Nadal and he's wearing a tiny little towel. There's also a video of Ferrer in tinier towel on Youtube but he's not playing video games.
I would pay for a channel like this.

LT I happened to walk by a tv and saw that Monfils lost and laughed like a loon. I generally like Gael but was tickled that Fabio (a player not known for his fight) successfully battled both Gael and the crowd. I got some weird looks b/c the main story was the BP mess, I was probably the only person interested in the tennis scroll.
B/c of the rain delays, I'm now nervous about the coverage over the weekend. Last year NBC blocked stuff so that it could be exclusively seen there, and that interfered with both regular tv and internet streams. I would hate to have all these matches being played and not being able to see some b/c NBC is showing a tape delayed rout.

Damn. I completely forgot about NBC having weekend coverage. Oh, they're going to get me extremely aggravated, aren't they?
I've been watching TTC's French Open Today and Bill Macatee had Roger Rasheed and Bob Brett on to talk about coaching on clay, best 10 players ever on clay (that was Brett for an article in L'Equipe) and other stuff of that ilk. It was fascinating. It was taped before Monfils' end of match today and after listening to what Rasheed had to say about a seeing a player's character when they are faced with the situation of having to come onto court when every point matters from the very beginning makes me agree with John McEnroe said yesterday--I don't think Rasheed is going to stick with Monfils much longer.
FYI: TTC is going to air the end of Monfils/Fognini right now.
Something I didn't notice on my computer screen yesterday--Fognini has quite the belly, huh? Or is he just poofing out his gut?
