So who predicted that Azarenka's winning streak would last longer than Djokovic's? del Potro just can't keep it together at the end of close sets against the big boys. Losing the first tiebreaker was expected - though he did hold off Roger until the sixth set point. The second set was just a mess if you're a Delpo fan. Then again, Murray kind of messed up closing out the match at 5-3. Fortunately it was only a minor blip and broke Novak later on for the win. It's a rare occurance (because he doesn't win that much) but a Gulbis interview appears, now that he's actually winning a few matches. It wouldn't really surprise you to hear him say that if he doesn't make a mark on the tour in two years, he's done. Link.

I hate not having TTC--this past week of Dubai, Delray Beach and Acapulco were just scores to me and I didn't get to see my boy Kevin Anderson (and belated congrats to him on the wedding) beat not only Roddick and Isner but win the tournament or Fed vs. Murray in the final or Fer look like an idiot in his final (eh, at least he got to the finals and he did win in the doubles).
And, worst of all, I have been paying so little attention to tennis these past few weeks that I didn't even realize that Fed was in town for his exhibition at MSG tonight. Oh well.
I am going to Miami so I hope that gets the ol' tennis-lovin' blood going again.

I hate that nobody carries the first three days of Indian Wells and Miami. It looks like some good matches have been played. Azarenka came pretty close to bombing out in the first round, Jaime Hampton beat JJ, and Sloane Stephens had a tough first round win, and a tight second round loss, and I missed all of it beyond watching the scoreboard.

It looks as though TTC is broadcasting IW today starting at 2:00 ET. Or has the tournament already been going on for three days?

Yeah, the tournament started on Wednesday. IW and Miami both start in the middle of the week

Apparently there's a virus going around Indian Wells and there have been at least eight players who have either withdrawn or retired due to it. Add in Federer looking unusually pale and out of breath (he claims to just have a fever and cold but this is Roger we're talking about) and Kvitova's loss attributed to a illness caught in the Middle East and it's literally been a weakened tournament.

Actually I wasn't completely correct. It started on Thursday. But still. Why no coverage?? Boo.
Very nice performance by Christina McHale last night. Obviously, Petra was a little off, but Christina still fought an uphill battle and won. She's definitely a house favorite here. Both the BF and I were rooting for her

I've never been much of a Mardy Fish fan but I didn't really actively dislike him until this year. OMG what an ass. His behavior so far in 2012 has been ridiculous. So glad to see Matthew Ebden beat Mardy Ass Fish off the court today in all of his assiness.

Fala - He's just so miserable on the court when he's losing. Yelling all over the place - the crowd, the umpire, his oponent. His behavior with Dimitrov during Hopman Cup and with Tsonga last year. He's just nasty out there. So surly when he's losing.
He had a big fight with the umpire about a hinderence call. Fish clearly yelled before Ebden had hit the ball during one point but then argued it for about 10 minutes with the umpire. He didn't think he should be penalized because he didn't think his yell affected Edben (they were both up at the net). The umpire kept telling him that it was a hinderence call. Sort of like Serena at the Open. The crowd wasn't even behind him by the end of the match.

I had hoped he had grown out of that--he was always like that back in the day.
Oh Fer, I saw he had two set points in the 2nd set tiebreak of his match against Delpo and then promptly lost the next four points and Delpo won the match. Congrats to JMdP but, ugh, what is Fer doing?

I admit I had trouble rooting for Fish prior to the summer of 2010 - even in a team setting, he just always irked me. As it became clear he really was making a run up the ranks, I tried to give him a chance but incidents in the past were always in the back of my mind. The Tsonga incident - occuring in a spotlight match, no less - made me realize I was right to be cautious. As his play has gotten worse, his attitude is going down the drain. It makes me glad for Isner moving closer to Fish's #1 American position. I'll even take Andy Roddick because at least he generally feels guilty about being an ass on the court, something you never hear from Mardy.

I was glad to see Ivanovic play so well in taking out Woz last night. I really enjoy AI's big, crisp strokes. There's something aesthetically pleasing about big, clean striking of the ball, like Lindsay D did.
I missed the name of the woman doing the commentary for the match, but I thought, although she probably talked 10 % too much, she was very interesting and thoughtful. Hers was a name I was unfamiliar with.
