That's brilliant!
printwhore, I'm glad you made some money--I'm going to think of that today when I get depressed that Roger blew it again. So far, I'm not so happy with these finals. Not the men's doubles, not the women's singles and if Djoker wins tonight, not the men's final. Blergh.

I share your sentiments exactly lt. The only result I'm happy with at the moment is the women's doubles. Thrilled that Kuznetsova and Zvonareva are there. With the women's singles, I don't mind Azarenka or Sharapova but the thought of listening to their match gives me a headache.
I'm going to really be pulling for Murray today. I don't think there is any way Nadal can beat Djokovic in the final.

Well the law of averages favors Nadal with this setup. Djoko has won six in a row over him, he can't keep doing that. Everybody has to lose sometime. That being said, I put in twenty bucks for Djoko at 2.8 back in December and now he's priced at 2.1 whereas Nadal is priced at 2.3. Stupid, silly me, not heading to the bookies and taking Nadal at 7 when I said I would. Law of averages says Rafa takes it, so yes, a trip to the bookie is in order, but I have to calculate what the best odds are.
Hmm. Nadal losing to Djoker is just karmic, I think. And to be honest, I kind of love watching it. After watching Rafa scissor kick and delay between points against my favorite players, it's refreshing that there is an even bigger jerk out there, bouncing balls ten million times and then beating him. I like the Djoker and I respect him, which is strange because i did not like him much before. I like him a lot more than Rafa anyway because I don't feel like he was manufactured by some IMG superlab in Spain.
As for Murray, what will having Lendl in your box do for him? It's not like Ivan's majors are going into Andy's trophy case. Lendl was the king of choking it all away, maybe he was better off courting McEnroe or Borg if he really wanted a superstar coach. Maybe I am biased but Andy's supposed treatment of ball kids as subhuman has not won him points with me. (wtf dude, at least nod in the corridors if you see them, Federer and Nadal aren't too self important to do it and they have more slams than you ever will)
Chesty, I will put up my Ferru pics from last night and some other video I got of him and the Djoker. And then that is it, no more tennis for me for the year!

Missed the whole damn thing - slept through an alarm for 75 minutes, apparently - after two weeks of 16-hour days.
I agree with you, lt, about no longer having any interest in the finals. So weird.
I am more sorry I missed the board chatter last night than the match. After reading the posts I think I'll skip the recorded copy of the match.
Maybe I will spend my week-end reading Nadal transcripts in Spanish, because (and this is an earlier conversation), I've never had the impression that he's all that bright - and I don't think that's connected to his second-language issues. I think I have felt that after listening to him in Spanish.
Or maybe that's just me retaliating against him for being in Roger's head (or backhand). I feel better having said it, anyway - though I refrained earlier. /bitterness

Did everyone notice the twins at the match?

They showed the twins right before the match started and I think they got a big crowd response.
We all really can't stand Chris Evert, right? We're not alone because Twitter has a hash tag of #shitchrissiesays that's pretty damn funny. I might just follow that timeline instead of watching the women's final.
TTC is showing the mixed semi's and women's double final at 11 pm est. Glad to see Vera and Sveta in the final as well as Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the mixed.

So Petra lost also? I am not really surprised Roger lost because he was playing great last year at the French also and lost to Rafa there too. I do think he could turn it around at some point (Mac had a similar problem beating Lendl in the old days) but I don't know when of course. Glad for the time difference this time, so I didn't have to see it, I did actually buy an internet radio for my bedroom but couldn't find the match and went to sleep.
No one for me to root for but if Murry wins I'll prefer it to the other 2. We can stop hearing about him never winning a slam anyway.
The twins have grown so much!

Checked out #shitchrissiesays -- very funny indeed. Tomic vs the police was crazy. yhoo.it/xholg7Although not a popular position on this board, I'm brave enough to admit I'm thrilled for Rafa. For me it's not either/or. I loved Fed long before Rafa came on the scene -- yet together they brought much-needed excitement to men's game.

RE: Mixed Doubles - Vinci/Bracciali is the team that took the Serena Williams/Andy Roddick slot. So pulling for them because the alternative is Leander being in both finals which I so don't want. I'd love to see what Bethanie does, fashionwise, in a GS final because Fed Cup already has shown how tough she is in big matches. I'd like to remind everyone of an exchange from a few months ago on twitter that might sway your pick for tonight: if Andy makes the final here, Cahill will be wearing a kilt to the final. Even without being around, Judy Murray makes her mark. Link.

breezy, thank you for the picture of the twins. I didn't catch the beginning of the match so I was jealous of those who got to see them. I know she's making a face but it cracks me up that the cutie on the left has a bit of the Roger bitter-beer-face going on.
My goodness! He really is old-school Vitas-at-Studio 54 living fast, isn't he?
You don't really think you needed to be brave to be happy for Rafa, do you? (I'd feel quite guilty if you did.) I think it's okay for anyone to like anyone they want to--it's just that it's okay if others don't. I think loads of people here (and everywhere--he's a very popular fellow) like Rafa a lot. Hell, until last summer I was one of them. . .
Good points. If Mattek-Sands makes it to the finals those will be two finals I would be very happy about. Tecau is such an unknown for me. Lindstedt is the vocal (and often angry) half of the doubles partnership so I've never really formed an opinion of Tecau. I like Mattek-Sands loads though so I'm rooting for them. And I'm with mooncreek on the other mixed semi--and what fun it would be for a lucky loser (although not really since there aren't qualifying for mixed) to get to the finals of a slam?!

I loved Fed long before Rafa came on the scene -- yet together they brought much-needed excitement to men's game. I'm happy for Rafa too, and Have the same feeling as you do, guru. I was a Fed fan first, but at this point I like them equally, and I'm happy to have Rafa get the chance to retake the top of the rankings, even at Fed's expense. I'm excited that, inlight of all the injury and "loss of passion" news that has been brewing about him, he has been able to make it to the final. If Myrray beats Djoker, I may lean more towards Murray just because I'd like to move on from all the talk about whether he'll ever win a major (and because I will win the bracket pool if he wins), but I'll be happy to see Rafa win regardless. ps. I enjoyed the running commentary here from last too!

Although not a popular position on this board, I'm brave enough to admit I'm thrilled for Rafa. For me it's not either/or. I loved Fed long before Rafa came on the scene -- yet together they brought much-needed excitement to men's game. I was happy too. I love the rivalry and I still like Rafa- even though that is the minority opinion here. (He may have a lot of fans thoughtout the world- but it is slimmer pickings on this board. While everyone has different opinions and that's awesome- it does make me sad to read over and over how folks dislike one of my favorite players. And unfortuantely my other faves don't generate as much conversation. Call me a wimp, cause I am.) Commies to Roger fans. I think he will win a grand slam title this year. I have to kvetch a bit- while some articles have given Rafa credit, others have made the post match all about what Roger did and did not do. I adore Roger- but it would be nice if some of these writers gave Rafa some credit. One writer, Pete Bodo, said Roger lost because he got in the way of his own genius. One writer thing I wish all writers would do is 1) give Roger's oppoenents credit when they win against him - see Rafa, Tsonaga, Delpo and 2) give Rafa's oppoenents credit when they beat him - see Ferru- without acting like Rafa was the walking wounded. I think Vika's shrieks are more organic. It will be interesting to watch the final- Vika's don't bother me as much when I have seen them in seperate matches- but together it will be inetesting to compare the screech by screech. The twins totally have Roger's baby nose that he had as a wee one.

printwhore- a belated thanks for the ball kids stories. Surprising about Muzzah.
Hee- I know Nico is loathed in the locker room and yet I still like him. He is good friends with Ferru so that is a plus. I tend to like a stinker a generation and he came up nicely when Coria left.

There might be more people who prefer Roger over Rafa on this board but I think the majority of people like Rafa a lot--I might be the only one who is just no longer a fan (and that is a very recent change for me and boy, am I regretting writing about it!). And I think a large part of the wanting Roger to win when he plays Rafa is that it is hard to watch someone just not be able to get out of their own head when they play a certain person. Just like when Rafa plays Djokovic--Rafa is in his own head when he plays Novak and that can be hard to watch (nothing against the way Djokovic plays, it's not like Rafa is beating himself when he plays him, but you can see how hard the whole thing is.)
And heee, my favorite player is Max Mirnyi fan--talk about loving a player no one else cares about, and he's now only doubles--not exactly the barn burning event of a tournament. . .

If given a choice between Roger and Rafa, I do root for Rafa. I admit I've never been a Roger fan - I respect him but it takes a lot for me to even consider rooting for him. I did figure that Roger would win this time due to momentum.
But Rafa is not my favorite. I'll be rooting for Rafa's opponent in the final either way. I don't necessarily feel Novak has to dominate the tour again but I'd like some of that to sprinkle over into the new year because I was never a fan of the Rafa and Roger Show. But if he doesn't, Andy is my favorite and I'd rather he be the beneficiary of any dip in Novak's form, not Rafa.
