Weird to see Tursovov back in a quarterfinal. it has been a long time since he has had any notable results.
I hope Roger sticks with the new racquet. I know his results have been subpar, but I feel like this is the right time for him to shake it up. He has come back from slumps in his phenomenal form so many times in the past few years., I feel like he must need a little more margin and a little more power.

I agree, falafaclese. As painful as it is to see him losing so often, I'd rather see him go down while fighting.
Has anyone read a reason why he's withdrawn from the Rogers Cup?
Did anyone see Del Potro's 111 mph forehand against Haas last night?

Maybe you two are right. I didn't know Roger had withdrawn from Rogers Cup though. I guess we will see what happens.

I was watching the Cibulkova/Kerber match today, and I happened to have the closed captioning feature turned on on my tv. The comentators were discussing Cibulkova's recent Fed Cup performance, and I had to laugh when they mentioned that she had played Pavlyuchenkova and and Kirilenko, and then someone else said something about Hantuchova. It was a live broadcast, and whoever was keying in the captioning must have nearly lost their mind. It took them no less than 7 tries to get the spelling of Pavlyuchenkova correct, and you could tell that for like the first five tries they didn't even realize that it was a name, because they just typed groups of words that kind of sounded phonetically like what the commentators had just said. Then they flubbed Kirilenko, and it took about four tries to get "Hantuchova", which they also didn't realize was a name at first. I just imagined that whoever was typing had a full-on meltdown after that and had to be carried out on a stretcher. I've never noticed real-time close captioning.

I'm not sure if it was given officially, but I believe Roger is having back issues again.
I love all the success that the Canadians are having at the Roger's Cup. Just finished watching Pospisil advance to the 3rd round. I was happy for Bouchard last night but wished it hadn't come at the expense of Kleybanova as I'm thrilled she is finally back and I hope she does well.
On a purely shallow note - I can't stand Berdych in his short-shorts. His legs look funny.

Has Gulbis always had that weird flail he does with his left arm right before he hits his forehand? It looks very unnatural.

Interesting isn't it. Kind of like he's doing the breast stroke with every forehand. It's absolutely distracting, and more importantly, I can't imagine what the purpose could be. Just watched the Raonic/Pospisil semi, and after a very herky jerky match, the final point was by far the most entertaining one of the match. Breezy and all our other Canadians must be even more excited after seeing that semi. There was a lot of potential on that court. And now Raonic is a top ten player!

You've got that right Fala. I see too that Pospisil got the special entry to Cinci which is pretty exciting.
Two great semi-finals at the men's Roger's Cup today (still watching Nadal and Djoker). This is what I like to see. I'll be interested to hear Djoker's take on being smacked in the face by Nadal. He looked pretty ticked.

Evidence that Srdjan Djokovic really needs to keep his big trap shut:
Then he said this about Rafa:
It's amazing that after all this time that Novak has spent on the tour, I have yet to hear either of his parents say anything that I find even remotely endearing. They seem to suck with extreme prejudice. What makes it worse is that I have never heard Roger's or Rafa's camps saying anything bad about Djoker, or really anyone.
On the positive side, Djoker seems to be trying to distance himself from his dad's comments:
It's always tough when a player, who's parents must have invested ridiculous amounts of time and money in supporting them to get to this level is forced to disagree with their parents publicly like that.

Canadians are def excited... though I'm starting to wonder if Pospisil is poisoning his opposition! I think I prefer his game to Raonic's - I just feel that most people can't handle Raonic's serve, but the best players ALL can... so he needs a better return game. I feel like Pospisil has a game where he could have a crazy streak of super-play.
I actually feel sorry for Djokovic - I know what it's like to have a dad who takes offense at the stupidest thing and WILL NOT SHUT UP.

Such a good win for her! That was an entertaining match. Maybe not super high quality all the way through, but I loved that both of them were fighting. I could see Sloane working through her game plan and figuring out how to get Maria moving.

And wasn't his father recently ill? Novak probably doesn't want to rock any familial boats but, damn, he's gotta tell the 'rents to stop speaking for him. Ha! falafaclese for the closed-captioning experience. Ashe is getting its roof. This should be interesting. I guess there will be a press conference tomorrow where we'll be getting some more info. Here's some more information about that Troicki suspension that breezy mentioned. With the NFL and NBA ignoring PEDs completely, the bet around my office is that tennis will be the next big explosion. And as seemingly-good-sounding of an answer that Troicki gave is, let me say (as a Brewers fan), the excuses sound really good until they turn out to be lies. . . I'm not saying Troicki is guilty because I have no clue, just that "blame the tester" is a popular go-to excuse. Of course I have no idea if there was a translator present who made it clear to Troicki that the woman couldn't guarantee anything or if Troicki honestly didn't understand what she was saying. Oh, Fabio. Not a good showing for the last game, although Stepanek must have been quite pleased to not have to touch the ball and win the match.

Marion Bartoli just announced her retirement from tennis. Very surprising given her recent success. She said her body just can't take the stress of the tour anymore.
