Glad all of your people are okay, tiki. A friend of mine ran in the race, but he's fine as well. It's horrible hearing what some people have gone through. I'm hoping for a quick recovery for Boston and everyone who was affected.

I'm looking at places in Boston I've passed a few times and shake my head.
Monte Carlo has - other than Rafa dominating - been so unpredictable. Tough to see Novak making the final in his current condition but the top half has completely fallen apart.

I watched Fognini beat Gasquet and now I'm watching Nieminen against Novak. Novak will win, but Jarkko is really taking it to him. (And I'm loving ESPN3--I was so excited to see that I could watch some tennis today).
My uncle ran in the marathon but he was in the group that was stopped short of the finish line. Luckily, the website had his split time at the 40K mark so I knew he was okay but I couldn't get through to his cell phone for two days. Weirdly, the only reason he ran this year (like a lot of the people) was because the temperature last year was too high so they let anyone who didn't/couldn't run last year get a pass to go this year.

Madame Li was chosen as one of the covers of the Time Magazine 100 Most Influential People Issue: I like the motion of the full length version better:

Thanks for posting that picture, falafaclese. I had seen that Evert had written one of those articles about her but didn't know she was a cover girl too. It's a great picture.
Did anyone see the Monte Carlo final? I'm hoping there are some hopeful signs for Rafa fans. I wasn't able to watch it live and once I heard the score I didn't really feel like watching the DVR'd version.

I watched the final Harry. Rafa had moments where he played well but mostly he looked dreadful. It was painful to watch.

Thanks for the info, breezy. Did you see any of his earlier matches? Was he playing as badly then? Did the commentators say there might be an injury flare-up causing the problem(s)?

No, I didn't see any earlier matches. There was some talk during the match about his knees of course and potentially a problem with his back. His play was full of unforced errors and missed opportunities.

harry24 - Rafa was off in the Dimitrov match, as well as when Tsonga made the comeback in the second set of the SF (Rafa was up 5-1 but won in a tiebreak). By "off", I mean he was landing the ball short and allowing the opponent to dictate. Nadal appeared to have a back issue by the time of the final.

It seems pretty sleazy to out her about that. I hope he asked her permission.

I gotta say that this is at once hilarious (because it seems so childish), and a little upsetting to me because whether you like Serena and Venus, there should be respect there, especially paving the way for other black girls, such as Sloane, to take advantage of.
I generally like Sloane Stephens and she's a good player. She got hyped up after she beat Serena, went on talk shows, etc. Good for her, but then she started saying things. If she'd just kept her mouth shut then I'd probably still be partial to her. You don't air your dirty laundry, and certainly not ridiculous nonsense about someone unfollowing you on Twitter. That's when you need to take a step back and look at your life and choices.
I just imagine she didn't think it would be a big deal saying these things, but how come no one in her circle told her that talking about this was a mistake? Who is she surrounded by that they wouldn't try and protect her and her image? Odd.
So, Sloane Stephens has an interview with ESPN Magazine for their May 13th issue. And keep in mind this was done in March, before Fed Cup. Here are some interesting quotes:
About Serena talking to her after she beat her:
Serena being her favorite player :
Venus and Serena not signing her poster at Fed Cup 9 years ago:

Venus withdrew from Madrid with a lower back injury, same from last summer. I really think it'll be this back injury that ends up making her retire, unfortunately, instead of her illness. Well I guess it'll be a mixture of both, her illness doesn't help with injuries at all, it seems to prolong them.
In Fed Cup near the end Venus could barely serve. I feel so bad for her right now. I hope I'm wrong and she can continue on, but it seems unlikely if her back can't heal properly.

So glad for both winners today on the ATP Tour. It was the Sunday of the One-Handed Backhands! Stan's is the most impressive OHB I've ever seen. I still can't believe the power he achieves with it, even off of a high bounce. And Tommy Haas is back up to 13 in the world! So impressive. And such a nice guy too.
That Connors story is so fucking repulsive. Whether true or not (and I gather that he doesn't actually know what the truth was), why bring it up in such a public way, so many years later? I don't know if Evert's parents are still alive, but IIRC they were a devout Catholic family, and to many devout Catholics this could be an extraordinarily painful subject. This just cements his long-held status as Harry24's Most Hated Sports Figure. (Not including criminals and animal torturers.)
And on to a more hilarious topic:HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Oh, Sloane.
