Jerzy's been matching him and adding in a little nasty at the same time. But yeah, I can see why pissy Andy would turn off people.
Yes, the town of Wimbledon only agreed to allow the roof if a curfew was enforced and they came up with 11pm. It's not just the tennis itself, it's the thousands of people leaving the grounds that disrupt the entire village. Last year (or the year before?) it went to 11:09 pm but they won't let it get close to midnight.
eta: I have to leave to go into a plant in 35 minutes. I really need Andy to close this out before then.
Heh, every time I see Pippa show up at an Andy match I think she'd like a piece of that and then they show Kim and I think Pippa's got no chance. . . Kim's my choice for prettiest WAG. I think it's the hair.
As much as I wanted Andy to win I didn't want Jerzy to let what was happening get to him as much as it did in that last game. And a nice handshake at the net.
Hey! James Corden is there--I love that guy. I've seen Andy on his sports game show when I've been in London but I think of him as one of the Doctor's (Who) friends.

It's the high pitch Andy gets when he's arguing. I'll take that over Jerzy throwing digs about the roof for a half hour until he gets his way any day.

I saw that Djokovic did his patented "I beat you so let's hug" move. It makes me want to punch him in the head. Repeatedly.

I saw that Djokovic did his patented "I beat you so let's hug" move. It makes me want to punch him in the head. Repeatedly. Its been a minute since I've watched him end of match (not a fan) but I thought he was pretty huggy win or lose since he showed his prickly side vs Roddick at USO years ago... Maid Marion is definitely a WTA eccentric (let's not even attempt a drinking game w/ that overused word) but Sharapova takes practice cuts. Is that only something blonde and lithe are allowed to do w/c censure? Surprised to realize Sabine is only 23, a few months younger thn Vaidisova. Wrong place but figured it would get lost elsewhere. Any chatter abt Nicole returning post Radek? I would think not bc she always seemed so miserable playing.. Either way I'm a sucker for joy of a new GS champ so looking forward to tomorrow. And wholeheartedly rooting for Murray on Sunday.

moon Yeah, I looked up the Fibonacci and it was what I thought it was, so yay I'm a genius just like you and Bartoli! I mean, I must be, that's how it's judged, right?
Too bad this semi couldn't live up to the 1st one, and that crankiness abounded. This wild-wild Wimbledon ends with the #1 and #2 men in the final, so not that wild anymore. On the men's side I mean, the women wasn't exactly the semi's I(anybody) was expecting, and from that we have an unusual final. And a new GS champion, so that's always cool.

See, I don't think this has been the case, at least so far. Certainly nothing as good as Rafa-Rog or even Rafa-Djoker. Hopefully that will change. They both play such contained, basically defensive tennis.

Good point, acre. Perhaps bringing the new normal, however un-satisfying. I enjoyed carrying the match with me to work today - made for pleasant company at our empty university. Hoping for delPo and Andy, but at least I have a clear dog in the race on Sunday.
And I can't wait for tomorrow, oddly enough.

It sounds like work caused me to miss two interesting (for different reasons) men's semifinals. I'm catching some of Andy/Jerzy on TC right now. Based on the score line and the stats I thought it seemed like Andy might have played some scary good tennis after the 1st set, but reading your comments, I'm rethinking that. I guess I'll see for myself shortly.

I know! I don't remember the last time I was so anxiously awaiting a women's final. I like quite a few women at the top but for some reason this final has really peaked my interest where a lot of them haven't.
And as annoying as I find Marion on the court, the more I see her off the court the more I'm liking her. I think it has to do with how gleeful she is about having a full team backing her. It must have been so hard when it was her/her father against the tennis establishment. Now she has a coach and hitting partners and she's loving it. Her face lights up when she's talking about what her team does together--she especially seems to like the laughing they do. Best yet, this wasn't a break with her dad, he's coming tomorrow and she's really happy about that too. It's just a young lady growing up and finding new friends. I love that.

You might be right about that harry. I was thinking about fantastic matches they've both been involved in, but I don't know if they were against each other, if it's this matchup that makes for the best tennis. We'll find out soon enough, but it will be a huge disappointment if it's just a blah kinda match, no matter who wins.
And off-topic: I miss my Dad. This is my 1st Wimbledon of my life without him, and even though last year he didn't watch and only vaguely followed along with my updates, still. The last few years he wasn't too engaged, but he has always been my tennis buddy, he got me watching the 1980 Borg-McEnroe tiebreak and tennis just seems odd without him. But hey, he was 95, I can't ask for much more than that. I'm happy he was able to die without protracted dementia, no pain, and he was SO ready to go, well past due in his mind. But I still miss my Dad - my "real" Dad, when he was healthy and happy and involved, I don't miss or wish the last year on him.
Ahem, hope that wasn't maudlin. Shrug, I still miss my Mom too, and that was much longer ago.

There aren't words to make it better, acre, but I hear you. We are all with you, I'm sure.
Also, I wouldn't be me if I didn't say something totally bitchy: Djok vs. Murray. PASS.

This "Giant Killer" narrative regarding Sabine Lisicki reminds me a lot of when Sam Stosur went through the French Open draw, beating big names all the way only for Schiavone to have the match of her life in the final. I didn't even realize Sabine's tournament began with beating a major champ in... Schiavone.
Oh and can we stop with "why is Dr. Bartoli there?" Seriously, he's been at her matches for so many years. He should be there for the biggest match of her life!

I agree with something that someone from ESPN (and now I can't remember who) said yesterday about Jerzy winning the ball toss but deciding to receive first even though his serve is his strength--when you're in such a huge match on Centre Court at Wimbledon it might be best to get those nerves out by letting your opponent serve (and win) that first game. That way by they time you are serving you've worked some of that out.
I was going to say the same for Marion but as I was typing Sabine quickly lost her serve right back. . .
I think people want there to have been a big breakup with the two of them. I much prefer it this way. I understand the superstitious side of things since he hasn't been there this entire tournament and superstition is paramount in sports but good for Marion for not being into that.
I do not like Marion's mean face/fist pump. It's a good strategy, I'm just not a fan. And, boy, Sabine is tight right now.

Was coming to type the same thing. Hard for me to watch. I'd really be so happy with either, but need to figure out how not to be affected by that.
(And Wimbledon is always a bit sad for me, acre since losing my mom. Similar history. Same ache. Hugs)

Sabine needs to take a comfort break between sets, have a good cry and come back out and play more free.
eta: ha, looks like Sabine was thinking the same thing.
