Please oh please oh please.
Impressed as always by Nole's class in defeat.
Loved that Andy was so dazed after the final and his goofy story about his dream.

I bet there's a lot of people googling "Denis Kudla" after that remark. Andy's dream stories are always awesome - he's said that he realized he'd won the US Open when he had a dream that he didn't win.
ESPN tracking the walk was a beautiful shot. When ESPN went back to the studio, you could tell that Darren and Brad were a mix of choked-up and in disbelief - but both full of pride for their roles in Andy's career.
I... seriously cannot believe a Brit won Wimbledon. Even after everything Andy has done, that's my overriding thought.

Aw, such emotional wins for both Bartoli and Murray. It was a crazy tournament overall but it was great to crown two new champions who prevailed in staight sets. Well done to both for fearlessly facing the challenge.

I'm pleased for Bartoli. I forget who said it earlier here, but while her on-court mannerisms are annoying, she does seem really very nice and thoughtful. As for Murray, he'll probably always just be meh to me.
What's the story behind Djokovic and his family? Was anything said? I watch so rarely now that I don't even know if the gang is still in his box.

No real story with Djoker and his family--they were all there in his box. His father has been quite ill and they don't show up all the time anymore but I think they're all as close as always. His adorable girlfriend was a bit put out by his folks and Novak seems to have chosen her over them with him all the time (a wise decision for an adult).
Did I miss Andy in the studio? I've been racing around for gym/work and I missed the end of the ESPN window. I'm working and watching the ABC replay now. Hopefully if he did come in to the studio, I'll see it then (although I have to go in to a plant in a couple of hours--I'll have to see when the ABC coverage is over).

I am so very happy. Couldn't get a word in on the telephone with my aunt over there - maybe she will have stopped crying by tomorrow? All cousins on deck, so don't worry. My other uncle (other side) was out parading around his town with friends, so I'll have more phone calls I hope in a bit.
But I did miss the Stepanek remarks. Using my context clues to figure it out, but if anyone wants to clue me in, I'd be much obliged!
Took the family for a bike around our village and am now so happy to turn on ABC (Watch those commercials, guys!) for a calmer walk through. Wish it was farther along than the long first set, because I really want to see the post stuff you all got to witness.
I wish Roger had been there to watch. I know that's unfair, but I really did hope he'd be incognito just to be part of the history of the event.

Andy had a dream last night that he was playing in the Wimbledon final but he was playing Radek Stepanek and/or Denis Kudla! Hee!
I love that your aunt is overcome--I'm so curious about the people sitting in their homes, completely stressing out, and you just answered that question.

There's another contingent of cousins who usually smirk at the rest of us and our affinity for tennis and the AELTC, but they live in Scotland - and today are pretty happy!
Interesting to think about the impact this may have on the questions about Scotland's independence push (which I know so very little about).
Ha to the dreamtalk! Funny Andy. I couldn't help but note while on the phone that his body language was still beleaguered even to have won. It's not his fault - the 'two imposters' ideology and all.
Just to say that there were once many years when I watched Wimbledon at my grandma's. Life pretty much halted in her community for championship sunday. If that gives you a little more info.
Here's a tiny tidbit you might enjoy. My dad was born the year Perry won. And watched today! His whole lifetime to get back to British hands.

He talked about that later--that it hadn't hit him and he couldn't believe he had done it. That's why I wanted to see him in the studio with Mike, Darren and Brad. I want to see him after it had sunk in.
Awww! Until they talked about it later I didn't know (or hadn't remembered) there was an issue with the Brits liking Perry because of him going pro and him deciding to move to the US and actually fighting for the US in WWII. They later embraced him because (hee), what choice did they have? Kind of the same thing with Andy--he is still a Scot, after all. I think those tears after losing last year really endeared him to the Brits, and I think him embracing Team GB in the Olympics helped both the country love him and him figure out his place as a Scot playing in England.
I was talking to my dad about the match and how happy the (enormous) crowds were and he was comparing it to if the Cubs ever won the World Series. I think it's different though, the Cubs would be beating another team from the same country with rabid fans of their own. Here, it was an entire nation rooting for one man.

I can't imagine what that match would have been like if Murray had lost the 3rd set. They both looked absolutely spent in the second half of the 3rd set. I feel like Murray would still have won it in four, but if it had gone to five it would have been excruciating to watch, to say nothing of what the players would have been feeling.

I came in from the *hot!* outdoors in NYC and picked up the match early in the 3rd on ABC. I knew Andy had won in 3 but was surprised because Novak really was playing well for awhile there. I guess it was one of those wins that was tougher than the score.
I'm not really a fan of either guy as a player but I have to agree they both seem to be maturing. (By the way is Novak still Number One after today?) I can sympathize with Andy being glad to finally win even if I wasn't invested in the matchup.
Couldn't believe he almost left the box without acknowledging Judy though!

Marion was not kidding when she teased that she had high heels to wear, blister be damned. She looks fab as do Andy, Kim and Judy. /photo/1 Bc I am fashion obsessed, remember Marion wore some sort of sandal after final in 2007, exposing weird tennis tan lines. No such distraction this time

Yes, Novak is still ranked number 1. He only made the semis last year, so he actually added points, but Rafa has the most race points for the calendar year, and Andy has added points and (more importantly) confidence. The men's race could get interesting this year. As for the women, unless Serena crashes out early at the Open and Maria or Vika go on a serious run including a win at the Open, I think she'll probably hold on to her ranking. She has a lot of points to defend this summer, but so do her closest challengers. BTW, photos from the winner's ball (check out Marion's shoes - she wasn't kidding about high heels).Heh! francie beat me to it, and had basically the same thought!

Well Marion's (ugly) booties also have a thick platform sole, but yeah the heels are still quite high.
I'm happy for Andy, for Scotland, the whole damn UK. But mostly Andy. He's the one who won it, who played the 7 matches, and gets to hold the trophy. It's Andy's, not the UK's. I get the elation felt by so many, I feel pretty damn happy when Fed wins a Slam, but he doesn't win them for me.
I like Andy's game, I like the adult he seems to have become, but I'm still meh. He's won the Olympics, the US Open, and Wimbledon. Awesome. You can go away now, thanks.
Huh, didn't know I was quite that over him(not that I was ever under him) but at the moment, I guess I am. All opinions expressed herein subject to change. Void where prohibited.
