Sigh. Bye, Rog.
*********************
ETA: Stakhovsky is covering himself with glory with his thoughtful, charming interview with the BBC after the match. I hope Roger can be graceful in his presser. We know he has the Pissy gene.
******* EATA: Now ESPN is playing the Roger-Just-Died montage. [/Rolls eyes]

You speak the truth harry. I had to drive in to the plant at the end of the fourth set so I did something not good--I put headphones in and listened to Radio Wimbledon. I could hear all the road sounds though, I promise.
I'm sad. Stakhovsky played so well and aggressively and Roger's forehand was doing what it has been doing lately.
I agree that all the news previous to this match has just taken a very far backseat to this loss.

So you're Andy Murray right now. You had what was a rather tough draw when the day began. Now you see the bloodbath that you miraculously avoided. You look down, realize that you don't have a scratch on you and wonder.
I don't think my jaw left the ground from the moment I turned on the TV (set point in 2nd for Dustin Brown) to the end of the day. Mind you, I haven't been at the TV for the past two hours so haven't actually seen any of Federer's match but the scoreboard and Twitter has been truly mesmerizing.

Goodness. What a day. Sad to see Roger out, but Sergiy played very, very well. It will be odd to see Wimbledon without Roger into the second week.

I remember back to when George Bastl beat Pete Sampras here... 2001 and 2002 both had some crazy upsets but 2002 sticks because it was when Pete fans were forced to accept certain truths. I'm not saying Roger should retire - it's just that the QF streak allowed his fans to say "well, he only loses to quality, Top 10 level players".

Which is usually true, no? At least mostly, and always at GS's. And of course he shouldn't retire, not as long as he still enjoys playing and the whole nomadic life. Plus, he'll fall to like 5-6 I think? Still solid top 10, and still a joy for many of us to watch. I'm okay with him being "just" top 10, so long as he is.
But I take what you're saying about the inevitable downward slide. It's been happening, it will continue to happen, and there's no stopping it, he's not a kid anymore. I accepted that truth a few years ago. But then while I'm a huge fan, I'm just a fan, don't think I'm a fanatic.
But this Wimbledon has been nuts ... 2 of both the best men and women out by the 2nd, just to start the list, and a troubling number of injuries.
I can't decide if I'd like Andy to win just to be done with the "not since antiquity, can he do it", or gagging at how they'll fawn and go apeshit if he does.
Haas for the win!

If I'm Tomas Berdych, I would think the draw gods are trolling right about now. While Murray is the only Top 10 player left on one side of the draw, Tomas might have to beat three Top 10 players in a row just to make the final (and his H2H is lousy against all four: Gasquet, Djokovic, whether Ferrer or del Potro in the SF).

Hear, hear!!!
For the life of me I couldn't think of a player I could really root for now that Rog and JWT are out, but I forgot about Haas.

ETA: Stakhovsky is covering himself with glory with his thoughtful, charming interview with the BBC after the match. I totally agree. Also, seeing his wife sitting there quietly but obviously beside herself with joy and pride was sweet. It flushed almost all of the bile and sawdust out of my heart.

As unhappy as I am that he lost I'm not as rocked as I thought I'd be. I love Andy that much, I don't dislike Djoker anymore and Rafa is out too. It helps that Stakhovsky seems like a decent fellow. Remember when the evil Sod beat Rafa? I certainly learned to like Robin (and I miss him on the tour) but at the time he was the bad guy. I do wish Jo was still in it though.

I really didn't believe it was going to happen till it did, but I was going to work and following on my phone...sigh. I guess it will be the inevitable Djoko/Murray final and I can't find any interest in that matchup. Serena will probably not be threatened either.
From what little I read Roger seemed sad but not bitter. I don't want him to retire either though obviously I hope he does better next time. I have to admit my cancellation of my cable TV this spring has left me less involved with tennis - I didn't cancel for that reason (I was just tired of being ripped off by Time Warner who were forcing high rates on my apartment building) but I figured I'd just watch a replay or buy a DVD if there was great final I wanted to see. However week in week out I don't watch as I did. I do miss Roger winning as much as he used to and while I don't rule anything out yet with him, I don't see any new players arriving yet to share the love.
..sigh...

Wow, what a start to Wimbledon. So many seeds on both the men's and women's side out. I haven't seen Sharapova's nor Federer's match yet but I intend to watch them soon.
I was thrilled yesterday though a Eugenie Bouchard's win over Ivanovic. Bouchard is from Canada and won the Girl's trophy at Wimbledon last year. This Canadian is excited to see her move to the third round.

Today is already so much nicer than yesterday. Wake up to find out Li Na won - not a given since Halep won two titles since the French Open ended - and Kimiko Date Krumm continues to rule the world.
Turns out Tomic retiring from doubles was precautionary and is ruling over Blake. On the other hand, Michael Llodra adds to the retirement count and Ferrer did meet with a trainer on the practice court today so have to watch that.
Mixed doubles draw is out and there is a lot of adorableness. Also, I'm not sure why Bartoli (with Nicholas Monroe)and Almagro (with Torro-Flor) are playing that - given they both survived yesterday, I don't see either participating. ETA: Marion is actually on court right now.

Oh well, I'm not happy about it, but I've accepted it, moving on. Helps that both guys gave nice interviews,. And though I said I'd lost most interest, I'm still checking play just as much. I mean, it's still tennis, it's still Wimbledon.
Nothing shocking yet today (I think?) and Kimiko is kinda amazing. She's right that tennis isn't all power and muscle, there's still basic talent and knowledge and skill, which she has. But 42, wow.
