The draws come out on Friday! I have set up our Brackets, and you can go pre-register: ATPWTADon't forget that play starts on Sunday morning early, so you will have to make your picks before that.

Thanks, falafaclese, I'm so excited that I'm going to get to watch some tennis on my TV again! And you ain't kidding about the early--coverage starts at 5am ET on ESPN2. It's my favorite week to go to work, shortened week and I get to wake up to tennis.
eta: oh boy, my ATP picks are not good. I knew I was in trouble when I got stuck with the Seppi/Davydenko match in the first round. I'm going to have to review my choices when the qualifiers are put in. Now on to the WTA. . .
eta2: Blech. I just do not follow the WTA well enough. This is going to be a mess. Poor Venus--she's got Radwanska in the second round and I've got Agi going to the finals. There is so much cannon fodder elsewhere, why did Venus get stuck there?

I'm pretty sure I'm going to look at my WTA picks later and wonder if my morning coffee from Dunkin Donuts was spiked. I have a repeat of the US Open final (with same result) and both Ivanovic and Kvitova in the semis (only because it's either Petra or having Schiavone or Li beat her and it's just too messy).
On the ATP side, I'm pretty sure that Benneteau forgot to withdraw so I'm figuring Andujar as the #33 seed.
Meanwhile, Roddick sees the draw and probably decides not to withdraw because he has a winnable first match... and one I'd actually root for Andy's opponent. I haven't actively rooted against him ever but the lure of Nicolas Mahut winning a first round match in front of a French crowd is too strong. (Mind you, I'm picking Roddick in the bracket - but to lose second round)
The men's big names are rather simple - I have Ferrer beating Murray (although the prospect of seeing Rafa further beat up on David in the semis is really not appealing). I've been wavering on the Berdych/del Potro match but think the winner will beat Federer.

Thought you guys would get a kick out of my Serbian neighbor's text message to me about the Draw...
"Who made draw at FO? Rafa's mom? Nole's 1/2-Fed, Tsonga, Verdasco, Berdych, Delpo, FeLo, JCF?. Rafa's 1/2- Besides Ferrer, have any of them ever won a clay court match? James f-ing Blake? R U Kidding me? "

Hee. . . he's got a point. I didn't even realize it when I was filling in the draw but, yikes, that's the definition of one-sided. Let's see what Murray can do. . .

I think I love your neighbor. Seriously.
Still -- filled out my brackets, all fantasy fiction style as usual. I think I'm going to start my own competition and aim to come in dead last. Can you report that out to us, fala?

The gold medal is already spoken for in that contest, oops. I think my record of futility in these pools is unrivaled.

I finally got a good detailed look at the draw, and it really is one-sided. Not that it makes much difference, but there really is an argument for tournament directors to start seeding based on performance on clay.
All the in-form clay courters are on one side of the draw. Given recent performance, Ferrer, Berdych, and possibly Del Potro should be seeded above Murray.
And I just thought about this. If Novak had beaten Rafa at Rome, Rafa would have been ranked #3 and he would have been in the top half of the draw too. That's absurd.
Given Rafa's performance on clay, he should have been seeded #1 no matter the outcome of that Rome match. And this insane draw shows why!
Not that I mind Rafa getting a cake walk to the Semis, but seeding the best player #1 is not only beneficial to that player, it helps the rest of the field. Novak shouldn't have had to sweat getting Rafa in his half of the draw.

Although we need more entries, otherwise there won't be much difference between the winner and the loser.
