What a crazy day at Wimby! Both upsets were real shockers, but I was more surprised by Maria going out than Rafa.
And then Serena's illness and disturbingly wobbly and out-of-it appearance. Like Chris Evert, I was surprised that as the big sister Venus didn't take charge and say, "That's it. You're too sick to be out here." As Serena was staggering around, unable to catch balls or even pick them up, and then shanking serves halfway to the net, I realized that for the first and only time Serena Williams reminded me of ME on the tennis court!
And this may sound weird, but I thought the no make-up, bed-head look was stunning on Serena!

lizm, congrats to your Canadians! What a day again today (well, figuring Milos will come through this). francie, I keep meaning to join Twitter and then I never do. Someday. . . . So, you're out of GA and in FL? Like it?
I was on Kyrgios's twitter yesterday while he was playing Rafa and I noticed his tweet from earlier in the week hoping to get to 25K followers. At the time (mid match) he was at about 22K and now he's at 65K. Shows what can happen with a big day. I know Nick will drive me batty at times in the years to come but for right now, I really like him. Have fun, kid.
I got briefly nervous about Roger during the first set and I'm sorry Stan is sick (is some bug going around?) but I could not be happier that Roger looked so good coming away in that match. It's good that he got a bit more of a battle and I hope that helps in the semis and (please) final.
Sad about Andy and sad that he didn't look good losing. Dimitrov is really playing well this tournament so good for him.
Hee, Lars Ulrich is holding his own in the booth. I know I've seen him at tennis tournaments before--or I've read articles with him since he is a big tennis fan. I just always think of his dad with that crazy beard playing.

Hi francie! As you must have figured out, it wasn't me on Twitter. I am totally not in the social network scene (no Twitter; just dropped Instagram; no Facebook) -- this is the closest I come, and I have missed you all!
Even though it's baseball season, I have managed to catch some Wimbledon. Could Nadal have had worse luck the last three years? I like Halep. Federer might be looking at his last real chance for a GS title and I wish him luck. Djokovic still drives me mad. I might feel badly for him, with his obvious mental disorder, if he weren't a multi-millionaire.
So...I'm going with Halep and Feds. You all?
[ETA I am on LinkedIn; if anyone wants to connect with me there, PM me.]

Because good deal of my life is now spent interacting w/ hockey playing Canadians who live in FL, especially happy for Milos. But loved the showmanship of NK and fun he brings. Fan of 3 of the women's finalists & meh about Bouchard. The kimono & Cinderella comment put me over the edge. But also love a first time winner so will enjoy whatever happens. LT We moved to FL bc my husband works for his dad (who lives here)& logistically it made more sense. Its pretty much "as seen on tv" lol but we are on coast and not far from Disney etc so we see get many more visitors (which is a good thing as I hate living so far from my fam)thn when we lived in suburban ATL. Tikigirl Person I thought was you is tennis fan, lives in AZ & is named Kelly, which is my maiden name so almost always remember it.So if I remember those two things about you correctly thn I wasn't completely off

New Mexico, actually, francie, but my God, what a great memory you have!
I hadn't heard the kimono and Cinderella stories about Bouchard. Ugh. But tennis is full of huge egos, so no particular surprise.
I didn't see the Murray/Dimitrov match. Was something wrong with Murray, an injury or bug? I did catch an earlier Dimitrov match and enjoyed his game. Not bad to look at either, though far too thin for my taste. Yes, I thought it was time to add a shallow comment here.

I'm so embarrassed tikigirl lumping all of SW into AZ. lol My memory for non essential things (not that you are non essential!) is only bested by my 80 year old Grandmother. I haven't heard firsthand what Navratilova had to see about Serena's illness but apparently it was scathing. Guessing instagram of her recovery didn't sit well w/ Martina.

Oh dear, I don't know what they are and I don't want to look because I want to root for her. I didn't get to see today's match but that Bouchard/Cornet match was just gorgeous--all those glorious angles. I have turned around on him so completely that I want to stick up for him! Couldn't begin to tell you why I like him so much now, but I do. Of course I'm rooting for Fed if it comes down to Roger/Novak. Speaking of Fed, if you want to just give a big awwwwwwwwww and a "he's just like us!" take a look at Roger watching the Switzerland/Argentina World Cup match yesterday. He even gave a shout out to Delpo (who replied back). I swear, if I didn't know it was an official Twitter account I would think someone was doing a masterful job of punking us all. He just has so much fun with it.

Darren Cahill said he was surprised by how involved a Dad Fed is. How relative that is, I don't know. But Minnie Mouse towel at arms length definitely indicates little girls close by And like tiki said lt small things that bug me about Genie very garden variety, self centered athlete anecdotes. Nothing to derail fandom if so inclined.

Darren keeps talking about that! Edberg was in the ESPN anchor desk a couple of days ago and Darren kept talking to Stefan about it and Stefan was just looking at him like Darren had lost his mind. When Roger was up there they were asking how many bags he and the family take when traveling. Roger was a great interview because he pays attention to the entire tour and not just his own matches so he has really good insight. On the family note, he was all excited about getting to go outside with all the kids on the day off on Sunday (that was before he knew he'd have Monday off as well).

lizm, congrats to your Canadians! What a day again today (well, figuring Milos will come through this). Thanks lt! Yeah, quite the banner tournament for us (and providential the way the draw has opened up... I don't think Milos would have been as likely to prevail against Rafa, or Bouchard against Sharapova.) With Milos, especially, I feel like inexperienced players are very vulnerable to a serve they have not often received. But feel free to prove me wrong, Milos! Sigh, I watched the entire Dimitrov/Murray recap in hopes of seeing Grigor change his shirt (since I already knew the result) but to no avail! /shallow If Federer prevails, I'm hoping for a Dimitrov/Federer final! I really prefer Eugenie's game to Milos'... other than the obvious reasons, I feel more involved because she's more likely to come back after being broken. But on the personal side, I hope she continues to mask her possible ruthlessness with polite confidence. I like how both of them don't celebrate wildly after a win - feels more 'Canadian' heh. /ramble But actually, Halep has my favorite type of game... so I'm hoping it'll be a super competitive semi-final.

And like tiki said lt small things that bug me about Genie very garden variety, self centered athlete anecdotes. Nothing to derail fandom if so inclined. I looked them up because I love thinking that Bouchard might be a stealth bitch (which wouldn't make me not a fan...) but I kinda gave her a pass. It's kind of considered polite to really talk up and show off gifts (even if you hate them heh... YOU WILL WEAR THAT CHRISTMAS SWEATER YOUNG MAN).

I totally don't know the Bouchard gossip, I was watching the match but was having too much trouble telling her from Kerber with the blonde braid/visor look, maybe it's my late schedule. Happily, as a person I worked for used to say, I have been given Tennis Channel by Time Warner (Channel 409 in NYC), I don't know if it's temporary but certainly hope they don't pull it before the final! The late night replays are great when you work till midnight as I do. I only saw parts live today but while I didn't want Stan to feel ill either I'm really glad Roger came through so well. I really would love for him to win another Wimbledon but just waiting to see what happens next. I am happy that he seems to be so happy with his family life. I saw the interview he gave to ESPN the day Serena lost early and I thought it was hilarious the way he not only sympathized with her but finally added "...the questions get more and more annoying..." he he. I would love to see Roger and Petra Kvitova as the winners. Welcome back tiki and francie! - and hi again to everyone, I know I haven't posted much but still enjoying reading you all.
ETA: I didn't know Roger had his own twitter account, thanks lt (I'd only seen a Roger fan's tweets before). I do most of my tweeting these days to help out an artists' group in Montauk (so not under my name) but will have to sneak a look at Roger's; funny that JMDP exchanged some humor over the Switzerland/Argentina game as you say.

lizm Genie will surely have many more gifts to display so better brace myself to see them Li Na and Carlos are done. LZ Granderson said there have been whispers about Serena and Patrick all year,(only made my radar after RG) so wonder if they are next. He seems too self serving, not to mention loose lipped for my tastes.

I forgot about that! And the look he gave when he said it was great.
I think you might get your wish--I saw an interview with her this morning before the semis and two things were a bit interesting to me: -she told a story about having to wait ("in the players hallway") because Prince William and Duchess Catherine were coming in. She was very "they kept the players waiting" about it and I just wanted to tell her that she's in England, at Wimbledon and she better figure out right quick that if the Royals come you'd best not get snippy about it. Then she giggled and said the Royals were very pretty. -when whatsherface from ESPN (can't remember her name, the one who got horribly burned a couple of years ago) told Genie she had loads of companies coming after her for endorsements because she's pretty and talented Genie was very smugly gracious about it. Granted, I have no idea how she should have reacted to that statement but it was interesting. She giggled then again so I think she uses the giggle to cover up the smug/snarky.
francie, I agree about LZ. He's very TMZ when he gives info.
On a shallow note, Pam Shriver should wear those bold colors (she's got on a hot magenta shirt today) more often--very flattering.

LT I saw interview Genie with Hannah Storm (and her dress!)this AM and Royals "holding her match up" made me laugh too.
Petra looks like she means business and I couldn't be happier. I hope Lucie is pleased by her run bc though I've always liked her too definitely didn't think she'd make semis.
Feel bad for Simona. Between ankle and fan fainting after she was up 4-2 in TB things just went south for her. My twitter TL suggested mental component as well but I didn't see RG so...Also lots of chatter about Saviano coaching from stands but either my feed didn't show or I wasn't paying enough attention.
If today's Petra shows up I think she takes it. But that's never guaranteed.
Congrats lizm! Because I know how desperately ESPN & co would like to claim Genie.
ETA LT I actually meant Patrick too self serving & loose lipped. But conveniently applies to LZ as well. Old news but that Grigor article he wrote will live forever in infamy!
