Is there some place that is going to have the matches themselves for re-viewing at a different time? I hope my Olympics on Demand Channel will have something (1023 on Time Warner Digital) but I have my doubts. It hasn't even come in yet when I've tried to turn it on. I hope we Americans won't have to depend on Youtube for what will probably take place when we are asleep. It's complicated by my being out of town for an artists' group I belong to. I may just have to record 8 hours on my DVD recorder, since my DVR is not to be counted on when I'm away However for people who want to give it a try, this site might help a little: www.titantv.com/ttv/Grid/grid.aspx. You can tell titantv.com where you live or what your cable system is, and you will get some idea of what's playing. At least it let me know that the Opening Ceremonies aren't going to be showing anywhere here till 7:30 PM Friday - about 12 hours late.

I loved how the BBC cameras focused in on so many tennis players during the opening ceremony. They showed Nadal and Federer backstage before they came out to walk for the parade, and focused on them when they walked around (of course Federer was the flag bearer). They also showed Nieminen quite a bit, and the Murray brothers obviously. And Gonzalez looked so cute with his outfit and the Chilean flag. I also spotted Davenport, Kiefer, Almagro etc.
Then when all the athletes were in they showed clips of Nadal, Federer, Andy Murray and the Williams sisters all in a row.

Just took a look at some of the pictures from the opening ceremonies. Roger looks very happy to be there. Rafa looks like a 5 year old at Disney Land. He looks completely in awe and excited by the whole thing.

The Opening Ceremonies were amazing and there were lots of shots of tennis players last night. I can't even hate on Beaker, because he looked ridiculously excited.

Somebody asked earlier if NBCOlympics.com has previously aired footage in cas you miss sometrhing, an it looks like it does. It looks like they might have full matches once the tournament starts.
If you missed the artistic portion of the opening ceremonies, they have it in its entirety in the video section of the website. I highly recommend it. It's common knowledge that I have a cold, black, vinegar-soaked heart, and I sat hunched over my computer entranced through the entire thing. And that little boy who saved his classmates after the earthquake really did a number on me.

I am having a horrid time figuring out which matches are scheduled for which time on which day. The NBCOlympics.com site is not updated and lists things as "Planned" or "Scheduled" but it's confusing as hell. If someone has a better schedule site, please SHARE! I'm getting results from the tennis.com live scores page. Same with the official Beijing site. The match stats there are ...unusual looking as well. falafaclese my heart must be colder and blacker and acid-soaked. [soapbox] No tears for me. Just bile in my throat. I watched the opening ceremonies and was amazing by the synchronization and majesty but kept thinking "I bet they'd cut off that their hands if they messed up." When one of the "Star Men" had a problem with his suit lighting up, I figured he was going to die the next day for such a vicious infraction. My sister heard that there were 1.7 million Chinese volunteers. My nephew told her, "Oh, they are getting paid with the best payment of all, the right to continue living." [/soapbox] No matter my moral objections to Beijing, I'm still watching a disgusting amount of coverage. I always think the worst part of the Opening Ceremonies is the endless, stupid prattling of the announcers during the Parade of Nations. It starts out with dignity and reverance; then they get bored. They start mocking smaller countries and outfits, and it bothers me.

The New York Times has a real time (apparently) page of tennis results here: 2008games.nytimes.com/olympics/results.asp?sport=TENthey must be playing under the lights because a lot of matches are ongoing now- ETA: oh wait, it says updated at 4 AM - if they don't have lights and it keeps raining they are going to have a terrible back log of matches - flights to New York may have to wait. Ivanovic, Davenport, Ivo and Lubi have withdrawn from singles.

Ivanovic, Davenport, Ivo and Lubi have withdrawn from singles. I think it's Jankovic that has withdrawn, not Ivanovic.

Alright, let me be clear, I didn't cry. I'm no crybaby, and how dare you insinuate that I am! Actually, while I was watching and being impressed, I did have Tibet and Tianamen Square echoing in the back of my mind. Plus, during China's portion of the parade I started wondering if Yao Ming had to send most of his earnings back to the government. Anywy, I definitely understand (and share in)the cynicism despite my fascination by the visual spectacle. BTW, it looks like Ivanovic is out because of her thumb injury, and there have been rumblings that Jankovic may drop out too. I also wonder how Djokovic with his history of breathing problems will deal with the air quality in Beijing.

Barcelona's opening and closing ceremonies will always be the best and most stirring. Beijing's was impressive, but more because of the scale --- thousands of people for each number, it looked like. I hated the bits with the kids in them. Too cutesy.
I watched the ceremonies with friends and we would joke, "Hey, that guy isn't in step with the others! He's gonna get it!" I don't actually think that the Chinese government would actually punish the people who made mistakes in their numbers, but its actions have certainly cast a shadow over the whole thing, especially the crappy stuff it did to prepare for the Games. Then again, the US government is in no position to cast stones regarding human rights either. I don't know.
Rafa's been saying that he's tired lately; is he going to drop out early too? I'm torn between wanting him to lose early so he can prepare for the USO and wanting him to win the gold. I don't think it'll be possible for any player to do both.

Thanks for the link, roesha.
Ivanovic has been complaining about the thumb since Toronto started.
Golovin has pulled out as well with a bad back. Soon they are going to have to grab people off the street to fill the bracket.
