Oh I had thought I dreamed the Blake upset, but I guess I heard it on the radio in my near sleep. Ugh on Johnny Mac. Going around saying Pete can sleep better knowing his 14 GS titles are safe. I mean, really! Glad to hear someone else say that, I'm still steamed at Mac. What does he have, 7 slams? Poor Roger. I know how much he wanted this, the Olympics mean so much to him for some reason. I hope he wins the USO (which is still not impossible if the conditions were part of the problem today) but this is going to make him very sad. Maybe with just the remaining slam to concentrate on he'll play better. At least he knows he can win that one. If not here's hoping for a Roger comeback. I can't root for these other guys. Serena out? Well I like Venus better...hope Dementieva plays well, and Safina if she's still there.

curly, all the courts, practice and show, have night lighting.
ETA: They started Djokovic/Monfils about 15 minutes ago. Venus and Li Na are tied at 5-all in the first set. No matter the lighting, I don't think you can start matches at midnight. The match schedule on the Beijing site hasn't changed.

They started late because of rain.
Venus just lost the first set!

And I think Vee's down a break in the second already. Yikes.
Monfils is up a break on Djokovic. I'm sure he'll fold like a deck chair at some point soon.
This is the first day in weeks I've had to follow tennis and post. I'm milking it,

I guess I'm the one who thought there were no lights because they halted play so early the first day I think it was. It must have been rain. Playing this late is just crazy

Djok-itch looks like he's having trouble with Le Monf's serve.
I switched over from the Venus/Na match because I can't deal with the tension.

Venus and Serena have been losing big matches on the same day lately. It happened at the Aussie Open, the French Open and it could happen today at the Olympics.

Monfils took the first set but I'm trying not to get too excited about it yet.

Now that Roger is out...I am firmly in the anyone but Djokovic camp. So if Monfils can pull off the upset I'll be happy. Actually come to think of it, I would not mind if Blake won the whole thing.

I guess now that Federer is out, Go Monfils? I hope Roger can pull himself together.

Hmm. Bill Gates was at the Federer-Blake match. Anywho, back to Roger: where art thou forehand?? He had something like 20 errors on the forehand side.
He needs a coach and he needs to work on that forehand. It isn't like everyone has gotten so much better this year; it seems to me more like Roger has declined a lot - and I can't put my finger on it. Maybe he should just take the rest of the year and start afresh in 2009.

Grr!!!! Are these NBC Olympics feeds archived somewhere? I can't believe I woke up and missed the only time Blake beat Federer, and at the Olympics no less. But I'm glad I discovered that site, thanks to y'all.

They are archived. Be on the lookout for them later today.

And Venus is out to Li Na, 5-7 5-7.
Not a great day for big names.

And Venus completes the Williams Exodus: Beijing 2008.
Ya know...it's starting to look like a conscious effort to rest up for the US Open.
Just kidding, but this is 'Olympics tennis', where things always go just a bit differently.
And Rafa's match will start about midnight. That is just wrong. If he wins, he'll be playing 2 matches in less than 24 hours. One of them a SF. They'd damn sure better schedule whoever wins to play last on Friday's schedule.
