Wow....and Ivanovic is out. Actually, not so much 'wow'. She came in with minimal practice time because of her mysterious thumb injury that they can't figure out the nature of. That, and she's probably feeling the pressure.
Congrats to Coin. First WTA tour level event, first GS ever and she knocks out the #1 player in the world. Kudos.

I liked Coin's post match interview where she was so nervous and cute. Ivanovic has played like crap since she became #1. Actually, everyone who has been #1 this year (Henin, Sharapova, Ivanovic, Jankovic) has played terribly while holding the top ranking. What's that about?

What's up with Ana? She's been playing so poorly. I'll admit I rooted against her because Coin was really holding up well and not crumbling when she lost the 2nd set. I'd really like to see Serena take the number one spot and it might be possible by the end of the year. Did Roger play today? Or is that tomorrow?

That match with Nadal and DeHeart was fun to watch.
I just realised that Baggy isn't here. Is he hurt again?

Roger's playing tomorrow at the end of the day session.
Ryler Deheart made that one of the most entertaining straight sets losses I've seen in a while. It was fun watching him play even if he was getting pounded most of the time. His name makes him sound like a porn actor though.
I think Baggy is still nursing his wrist injury.

I was reading a research paper and had the match on in the background, and I swear it sounded like a porno with all the grunting in the match. It was so distracting I had to put it on mute.

Roger's playing tomorrow at the end of the day session. I just looked at the Open site again, and they have Roger playing the second match after Jankovic/Zheng which could be a barn burner if Jelena isn't hurt or something. They have Djoker after that and Roddick vs. Gulbis in the night match.

Ivanovic has played like crap since she became #1. Actually, everyone who has been #1 this year (Henin, Sharapova, Ivanovic, Jankovic) has played terribly while holding the top ranking. What's that about? I don't think Jankovic actually played a match while no1 but she did suck bad when she had a chance to go no1 in Wimbledon and lost with ridiculous ease. I actually find womens tennis pretty interesting at the moment. Quality wise it isn't great but there's 5/6 players who are all of almost equal level that can win on any given day, so it's fun. As for my picks, I'd like to see Elena do well but I suspect she's just happy to do whatever after her Olympics, at least she knows she can win a big tournament now. If Elena can't win I'll take Dinara, Venus or at a push Jankovic (she can be incredibly annoying but at least she can be fun too). Men's side, I just wanna avoid a Federer/Nadal final, anything else is ok. Hopefully Marat can stick around long enough too.

Could his fiancee be any more adorable? I love seeing the loved ones completely into the matches. Doesn't surprise me a bit they met while she was working at the tennis center at college.
I cannot believe Max lost in the first round of doubles--that is disheartening.

So Zheng and Jankovic are the first up on Arthur Ashe today. That could be a very entertaining match. Or Zheng could completely destroy Jankovic. Which I guess for some people here would still be entertaining.

Entertaining that Zheng-Jankovic match! Jankovic finally closes the match after 11 deuces and 5 match points...damn. She deserves the win after Zheng had so many opportunities to win the point.

I only followed it on the scoreboard, but it was still pretty tense. Quite a lot of breaks, and that last game seemed to go on forever. I think it was 18 minutes long. I really thought Zheng was at least going to take it to a 3rd set.

Roger! His pants! You can see the sweat at the seat of his shorts, like he peed himself. Who told him to wear those shorts? I hope he sees this and changes them to different darker color.

I was at the tennis today and heard two funny comments from people behind me at Ashe stadium:
On Roger: a woman said "I like his shirt better today. Last time he looked like the UPS delivery man." On Djoker: a young man said "Djokovic is a Siberian (pause)...I mean, a Serbian."
It was so great finally seeing Roger in person. I was spending a lot of time looking for a better seat so I could take closer-up pictures, but it was great watching him play. Thiago Alves actually played quite well and seemed to be making very few errors but Roger played great and closed him out in the third when he raised his game.
We gave him a standing ovation, I think he's going to be getting one in every round. It's as though the crowd wants to encourage him now, and it almost made it okay that I waited till this year rather than going in say 2006 when he was dominating but I didn't have a full time job and worried about money.
I have to say that Ashe stadium has a lousy non-scroreboard. They only put up the game result on the screen and I couldn't see any point by point scoreboard from the end of the court. On the other hand, when I finally made it into Armstrong to watch Marat/Robredo, they had a nice big scoreboard on either side that also kept you up to date with the day's other matches. Go figure.
I left Marat's match when it started drizzling for the second time but he and Robredo seem to be in a struggle. I hope Safin pulls it out, he did seem to be playing well.
I missed most of the Jankovic /Zheng match but could see it was quite entertaining.
