I figured I'd start this off since tomorrow's the big day! I think this could be a great tournament. There's so much in flux on both the men's and the women's sides, if feels like anything could happen! Here's the order of play for the first day. I'm looking forward to Davenport/Wozniak, JMPD/Canas, Blake/Young, Peer/Li, Rezai/Muhammad, and Nishikori/Monaco.

Wow, Dementieva is opening play on Arthur Ashe? That seems like an odd choice. The lopsided women's draw must mean that all of the top names are playing on the same day and that's not tomorrow.
Coco Vandeweghe? That's an interesting name.
I think I'm burned out on tennis, because I can barely muster up any interest in the US Open. Maybe by the time the quarterfinals roll around, I'll care more, but that first day lineup looks like a yawnfest to me.

I need the Open to fill the void left by the Olympics. I'm going to miss water polo the most.
DirecTV is doing that multiple channels thing again. 701-705 I think. I know 703 will show all the matches on Ashe. If GimelJerk is doing the commentating, I'm going to write a letter of complaint. I've had enough of him.
I'm not studying the draw at all, but just sort of letting it wash over me. I saw some photos from kids' day. Roger and Rafa looked relaxed and happy.
I did see the US Open Preview on CBS. Amazing what DVR picks up! It was a lot of Dick Enberg trying to make everything dramatic. Blah. When they showed PMac, it looked like Serena practicing behind him.

I am really glad to see that Asia Mohammad made it to the tournament. I enjoyed watching her (and Coco) during Las Vegas.
I agree with you falafaclese on some of the interesting matches for the first day. Juan Monaco was out for quite a while with illness (where he lost about 15 pounds) so I am wondering if he is finally recovering. After winning Las Vegas, Kei has gone through some ups and downs- but he could make some early round noise here (and he is still sooo young).
Speaking of Argies- I wonder how JMdP will do now that he has expectations placed on him. But he also has confidence. I do hope that a quarter between him and Murray comes to pass.
Roger and Rafa were really cute with each other during Arthur Ashe Kids Day. They were chatting and laughing with each other quite a bit.

Amanmuradova, sorry I can't spell - really looks like a boy in that get up. I had to do a double take.

OK, here's my evil thought for the day: A-man-muradova is appropriately named.
ETA: Ha! So, I'm not alone in that.

I saw that Kids Day contest too, with all the pros trying to hit the targets. Not so easy, even for them. Made me feel better about my play. Roger and Rafa were adorable, so relaxed and laid back. I was surprised at how meh I felt about the schedule of play for today. I agree with JMPD/Canas having lots of potential for a five-setter, plus Grosjohn/Matthieu pretty equal on any given day could be an exciting match to watch. Schwank/Tursenov could be a real match. Schwank was making some noise earlier this year. And Spadea/Safin, talk about alpha and omega. What makes me sad? Roddick/Santoro. Soderling is struggling with Korolev - fine by me. I don't care for him. We're going to be on site Thursday and Friday but I need some of the first rounders to fall out so that I can start to picture the round 2-3 matchups.

I'm happy I finally got a chance to see a bit of Nishkhori. He really is a nice player with good variety. I agree about Amanmuradova. She's completely dressed like a dude. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
ETA: I just saw the Williams sisters Manning Brothers Oreo commercial and love it. Very cute.

Not that I dislike Stan, he seems nice enough, but I want Bolelli to win. I'm bringing the shallow!
I'm thrilled that Soderling is out and Lindsay won. She's really grown on me.
Monaco is out too!

It made me happy that the crowd started cheering loudly for Roger right at the start of his introduction. Gah, I am way too overinvested in him winning. It would be awesome if Nadal or some new guy did too, but I really want Roger to end this year well. His summer before the Olympics kind of sucked.
It's still early, but if Canas beats Del Potro, I'm going to be sad.

I think Canas will either roll over now, or it's going to be a loooong 5 setter. He bombed out in that 2nd set breaker, 7-0, with a db into the net. 1-1!
I'm kinda rooting for DP too, i think he's fug, but that's one hell of a winning streak he's having recently, it'd be good to see him keeping it going.

I wish they'd show some JMPD/Canas. I'm ok with watching Blake/Young (Blake's playing pretty well, and Young really has nice movement and a pretty forehand) but some variety wouldn't hurt.
Coco Vandeweghe had some impressive power, and her mom seemed to be ecstatic just to see her daughter playing. It was nice to see her smiling so much.

This Blake/Young match was interesting for about 10 minutes and now I'm so bored only the incescent yapping of the commentators is keeping me awake. What is wrong with the camera focusing on them? It's all shaky and the lighting is about 10 times too bright. Is the camer man having trouble holding the camera still while he shoves cotton in his ears to silence the incescent yapping? Please just shut up for 10 seconds in a row JPM.
By the way, someone needs to tell Jim Courier to shave and get a haircut.
ETA - Blake.Young match got a lot more interesting after I posted.

I was working and it never occurred to me to record that part! Oh well. I do have a feeling that the crowd will support Roger at the USO, he's won the four times and they know he's the underdog compared to Nadal. New York loves the underdog. I would love to see him win.
