This statement had the dual benefit of making me laugh out loud and reminding me of the specific story that made me start to dislike Fish. Thanks for both, chesty. Serena retired from her match against Patty Schnyder. Patty was leading 6-0, 3-0. Was there some sort of problem, or is this somehow related to the fact that she clinched her YEC spot today? ETA. Apparently she strained her right adducter

Pico plays whoever wins the showdown between Gasquet and Mathieu.
Anybody else here that Peter Gabriel song "Biko" everytime they hear the nickname Pico? No? Just me then.

According to the draw I'm looking at, Pico plays the winner of Gonzalez/Almagro. A pic from Team Rafa/Feli's doubles match today. As always, with some slight variations, they're twins (in more than just clothes)! ;D i24.tinypic.com/e7babs.png

To me he's more like a David Tennant beaten many times over with an ugly stick. Which is weird because I fancy the pants off David Tennant.

I think my years of wild hedonism have finally caught up with, I misread Mancic for Monaco. The third round matches should be awesome because four of the players duking it out for eigth place in Shanghai will be playing each other.

I read more about the Fish PHM match on another board- and after the match- granted- this is heresay- Fish supposidly called PHM a "French f***"- then, to use the words of someone on MTF "Fish embarrassing himself further at the end. I think he accused Mathieu of making a call during the rally and Molina said it might have come from the crowd. Fish replied "from another fucking shitty Frenchman""
What is with his hatred of the French- Julain, Gasquet, etc. Gets old and very Bill O'Reilly 2003.
Some goood matches tomorrow. Blake/Ancic, JCF/Moya, Nalby/Berdych, Nico/Gonzo, Ferrer/Lopez, Verdasco/Nole, Baggy/Rafa. Looking forward to it.
Serena did make the YEC- correct?

You know the investigation into betting patterns is getting to Nikolay when he decided to rip into Andy Murray's recent comments, claiming he's seeking publicity. "I think it's a guy trying to be more famous than he is on the tour," Davydenko is quoted as saying. Link

But was Mathieu hot? Seeing as he's already way more famous than most of the players on tour, i doubt that he's after fame through comment. It doesn't surprise me, i think Davydenko is guilty as sin. Haha, yeah. He's at it.

Wow. Feliciano Lopez just took out David Ferrer in straight sets: 7-6(3), 7-5. Probably the biggest upset of the tournament thus far. David apparently didn't play as well as he has been lately, but it is no fluke. Feli has been playing much better, closer to his talent level, since Wimbledon. He made the QF's in 2 straight tournaments (Tokyo and Vienna) coming into Madrid. It's good to see him playing well more consistently for the first time in a few years. My hat's off to Albert Costa, definitely. As for David...I feel bad. I still think he will make Shanghai, just because he already has so many points. But I bet he feels bad not having a better showing in his home country, especially with all the well deserved buzz he's been accumulating.

I feel bad for Ferrer as well- I wanted him to have a good tournament. But he did not play up to his level of late and Lopez had some nice stuff.
The race for Shanghai is still very interesting, with Gonzo pulling out a tough win today (in part because Almagro could not covert 8 set points), Berdych now at one set all with Nalbandian, and Robredo, Gasquet, Blake and Moya all playing today. I hope Ferrer has a good couple of weeks after Madrid as I would like for him to make Shanghai.

Berdych is out. Nalbandian won the third set tiebreak easily.
The Mosquito easily took the first set tiebreak from Moya!

Another Shanghai contender falls by the wayside as Berdych loses to Nalbandian in a third set tiebreak. Its interesting that most of th guys who are in serious contention are playing today, and most of them have fairly tough competitors to deal with. I really expected Almagro to win after seeing how good he looked yesterday.
I agree the Ferrer is still in a pretty good condition, but it would have been nice to see him continue with his good form. Lopez did look good this morning, so I agree that it wasn't all just a letdown by David.
And now it looks like we have another Canas/Federer match to look forward to tomorrow. Very interesting.
