Man, the highlight of Verdasco/Djoko was the look of horror on both Novak and Nando's faces when the former beaned a model with an errant return of serve. That was bloody hilarious and I loved how both guys were able to laugh despite how tense the match was.
Novak running over to hug the model during the changeover was a pretty sweet gesture.
Also, nobody wants to qualify for Shanghai at all it seems.

I'm watching Verdasco/Djokovic (and avoiding work) thanks to channelsurfing.net -- I assume it's live? It's the same score as on the Madrid Master's homepage, anyway, which I adore for its very literal translations from Spanish. Looking to launch the live score window? This is what the button says: "See the statistics of all the games in the window of results." Hee! It sounds vaguely ominous.
I'm starting to realize that Djokovic is someone that I get a kick out of, when I think of him. Then I see him in action, and I'm no longer so amused. YMMV obviously.

Bwah, we're both avoiding work, I guess, printwhore. I haven't seen more than a few points so far, does Djokovic look tired or is he just getting outplayed? (first set, I mean.)
I'm trying to figure out how I can do an online conference later and still watch the match. Bad tiki.

Matheiu over Gasquet in straights! 7-6(8), 7-5! When I left for lunch, I thought Gasquet was up 4-1 in the first set. Ferrero over Moya in straights. What's happening in Madrid??

So Djokovic wins, and it looks like Blake (should we just call him Flake?) is about to lose to Ancic. Which is definitely not the way to get into the year-end tournament. Actually, I kind of hope he doesn't make it. Nice guy and all, but too prone to disappointment, thus just too hard to root for.

tikigirl the match is definitely live. Hope Verdasco can pull this out he's so fun to watch. Again- though- the problem is between the ears. 0/10 break points converted - that is not going to cut it against Nole. Sigh...Fernando had his chances. What is up with everyone losing today- are they all afraid of Shanghai? Ferrer and Haas must both be breathing big sighs of relief. We will see how Tommy and Ljubicic do today.

So I'm watching chesty's boy Nadal right now, while I'm on a business conference call. (This is so much fun! Posting during a match! Blowing off work!) Baghdatis looks pretty good. Is anyone else watching? Comments on Nadal's movement?
ETA, hi harry!
ETA again, Baghdatis lost the first set. Yet another player who seems to be lacking between the ears.

Is anyone else watching? Comments on Nadal's movement? ETA, hi harry! Nadal's moving okay- but not great- he did not run down a couple of balls that maybe he sometimes would. But he is looking better than he was during much of the USO- so that is good. He could be avoiding running as much as a preventative measure as opposed to a reaction to pain. His serve % is still bad for him- which was an effect of his knees earlier- but it may just be today he is not having a good percentage. In terms of play- he started horribly- was way behind the baseline and full of errors. He began to come in more and be more aggressive though- and his play improved. He really can have good touch at the net. ETA- still now in the second set- Rafa is still hitting a lot more errors than normal. And he doesn't look very happy. He has always been intense, but there used to be this fire in him that has been missing a bit the past few months. Baggy really does need to work on his serve percentage.

Murray has been devastating his last two rounds. He is finally playing well again. I think he is going to take out Nadal tomorrow. I would really like for either Nadal or Murray to play Fed in the final (so I hope someone takes out Djokovic!)

I'm glad to see Ancic is beginning to come back to form - so I don't really feel bad for Blake.

I just saw Ferrer's Bag Check on the Tennis Channel. He can read to me in Spanish any time.

So Robredo is out now... Can someone please help me? I am completely confused. Have the ATP officials informed the 5-6 players still in realistic contention that their reward for qualifying for Shanghai will be Chinese water torture? Why don't these fools want to go? They are doing everything in their power not to go. They must have told them in Madrid, because up to just a few weeks back many of them were winning tournaments trying their hardest to get there. Blake in New Haven, Robredo in Sopot and Metz, Ferrer in Tokyo, Gasquet in Mumbai, Gonzalez in Beijing (although, granted, he pulled his head out of his Chilean hiney long enough to pull it out today). What changed? Did they get a hold of some bad paella? Guess they're all hoping to win Basel, Lyon, and/or Paris.

I hate to say it, but I'm not surprised that Blake lost to Ancic. I was kindof expecting it. Blake's been have even difficulty converting breakpoints and closing out (didn't he have like 6 match points against T. Johansson in Stockholm?) than usual, and Ancic is not the kind of player to let that kind of shit fly without punishing you for it.
And now Robredo just fell to Del Potro. Wow, Shanghai appears to be the kiss of death this week.

I have a feeling they don't want to go to Shanghai cause of those fugly statues they are making for each qualifier. Those suckers are scary!
