I'm going to have to see some video because I'm sure he doesn't think Rafa is having any mental issues. What I've been seeing is that Roger can win everything but it won't matter because he isn't beating Rafa (shut up Luke Jensen). That's where my argh! comes in. As if tennis injuries have not always been part of the sport.
I agree. That quote about not playing because he doesn't think he can win doesn't sound good--but I would bet good money it wasn't what he means. I like the quote ESPN has switched to--the one about always thinking about his knees when he plays--because that resonates with me. How can he possibly strategize when he's constantly worrying about what his knees are going to do? Impossible.
Well, I'm still super-excited for Wimbledon. However, I don't think Sirius radio is airing it this year. I got Sirius in my car when I bought the car last August. I've been waiting all these months to get to listen to the BBC's coverage of Wimbledon whenever I was driving--I was planning on driving to the park'n'ride every day (instead of walking to the bus stop) just to listen in the morning. Now? I don't think I get to. I'm very upset.

Aw, no worries, acre. Your posts are great. (It doesn't hurt that I almost always agree with what you say.)
How come you're on pain meds (that is if you want to share)?

It's very sad about Rafa. I hope this is an injury he will recover from. In terms of the draw, I guess what they did didn't change things that much, because Fed and Murray would have been on opposite sides anyway. At least they moved up JMDP, though kind of in an odd way apparently.
It's going to be very odd seeing Wimbledon without the defending champion. I remember the year Becker went out early, first or second round, after winning twice, but I don't remember watching a W with no defending champ playing.
lt, I didn't know Sirius carried Wimbledon. I have XM but they have now merged - you might want to see if you can find the BBC there under international news.
I have a small shortwave left over from the days when I followed tennis that way, and I will put the batteries in and try to pick up the BBC. It won't be easy though, they've cut back their service to the Americas considerably I believe.

I read in the Rafa story that Goran I. was the last champion not to defend. He was retired the following year, right? (I'm still smarting that Rafter got beaten in that final. I wuved him.)

Well, Goran hadn't retired yet. He had surgery in 2002 but finally returned in 2004.
That's the only other time the defending champ didn't play in the last 35 years.

Wasn't he still drunk from celebrating the win that he couldn't attend? Or was that when he smashed his yacht into the back of some pricey waterfront house in Split?
I kid. I love that crazy Croat. But he, or someone, did crash his yacht into a house. But this was after Wimbledon.

Thanks harry24 As for the pain meds, it's chronic shit with me, I have rheumatoid arthritis and if I have a bad flare it's drug time. Also thanks very much for linking that global sports forum W discussion - I've read all 3 parts and most of the other articles that are linked at the end of each. I'm always looking for intelligent discussion of tennis online and it's mighty sparse: before this forum all I found was the idiots on rec.sport.tennis and the like. And maybe this should be a combo of haterade/OT, but ... know how we all hate on Ana Ivanovic's dumb bubble hem dress with the bizarro sweat stain patterns? I went to a high school graduation party for my niece today and there was a girl there wearing practically the exact same thing. Same color family, identical hem. But I have to say, on a tall leggy lanky 15yo it was adorable! Of course the first thing out of my mouth to this girl was "do you watch tennis?!" Yes, I'm a tennis dork I'm afraid. Time to go double check the tv coverage for the next 2 weeks, yikes. ETA: Ah, bliss. 10 hours nearly every day.

Sorry to hear about your RA, acre, hopefully the flare-up doesn't last too long. I find that I'm always combing the web for tennis discussion too, and like you, I'm often disappointed. The week before a major is always great, because there's always so much discussion among the press, and speculation about how things will turn out. One other thing often find myself doing right before a major is checking Getty Images to see if there are any practice, arrival or player party photos of the players. God, I'm a loser! Anyway, I saw this pic of Serena. Now, you have to ignore what she's wearing, because, in the words if the inimitable Michael Kors, the crotch on those pants is insane. If you can ignore that, I'm curious, does it look to anyone else like Serena lost weight? I thought she looked fine at RG, and I've generally stopped questioning her fitness, but her face and neck look slimmer now to me.

Just by coincidence I was in Croatia visiting family at the time and my cousin came into the house laughing and showing me a photo of a yacht "parked" in the beautiful, waterfront room of what looked to be a pretty nice home. It was awesome. And the Williams sisters got FUGGED!

To be fair to Serena, that's far from the worst i've seen her in off court clothes. At least she's not channeling Miss Noxie from 'To Wong Fu' for once. In a strange way i kinda like the pants. There's something decent could be done with them at least...

Signing in from gloomy, rainy (but gorgeous) New England...it's really too bad that Nadal is out. It's always too bad when a number one, or any top player really, can't participate in a major. It also looks like his annual injury is coming earlier this year, which is why, despite his remarkable accomplishments thus far, I can't take any of this "Nadal is the new GOAT" talk seriously...not that I ever did, and not that I think many real tennis fans believe it either (I'm not saying it couldn't happen in the future, but it certainly hasn't yet. IMO, YMMV, and all that).
ETA Serena still hasn't figured out how to dress for her figure. She could look so much better. Wifebeaters are not your friend, honey.
