Wow, it looks like Maria's waking up . . .
ETA: I can't believe Maria wanted to stop, even if they didn't finish today, I'd think she'd want to take as much advantage of the momentum as she can. She could have maybe gotten a break to take into tomorrow.

The Sharapova/Henin match reminds me of Date/Graf in the '96 Wimbledon semis. Graf got off to a quick start and won the first set easily, but then Date came back to win the second set before darkness halted play to the next day. I'm thinking Henin will win tomorrow.

I also like Henin, despite everything. But I mean, come on, I like Hingis, so I'm very forgiving. I was disappointed to see how Henin fell apart at the end of the 2nd set, though. She was mishitting everything and anything she struck well was out.
I hope Henin finishes her off quickly tomorrow. The less Sharapova I have to see, the happier I am.

I'm watching the rerun of Serena/Pavlyuchenkova to avoid doing anything useful with my day. Poor Pavly. She's one of the least athletic looking players I've ever seen.

Not really a fan of either but I decided by the end of today's play that I really enjoy irritated Justine (second set) a lot more than trying-but-failing Sharpie (first set) so I'm rooting for Maria. I was glad they stopped at one set-all so my hope of them mentally wearing each other out and Stosur can feast on the winner can still happen.

Bitchy comment: Maria S.'s highlights look like ass.
Ha! NBC just promo'd the Roger-Wawrinka match by recalling their Olympic dubs win and how Roger was the most excited they'd ever seen him winning that doubles medal. Excited was putting it mildly. Remember, it looked like RF was going to rip all SW's clothes off and ravish him right there on the court when they won. So cute.

I wish I could buy TTC just for tomorrow.... I'd love to spend a child-free morning immersed in all those matches. The few seconds I saw today of Shrieky looked better than the photos I'd seen previously, but I'm pulling for Henin all the way.

oops, you don't need TTC to get their multi-court feed. Just go to their website, click on free streaming and if your computer is fast enough you can download their HD streams. My home laptop isn't fast enough so I had to watch the lo res today but it is still loads better than our normal feeds. Problem is that once NBC goes on the air at noon the streams stop--I got about 4 games after NBC started airing before I lost that feed completely.

Bitchy comment: Maria S.'s highlights look like ass. I was completely distracted by this. I realize that may reflect poorly on me as a tennis fan but holy hell! I couldn't figure out what was going on with that. That said, I'm rooting for Maria full stop; I hate Henin. Even if Maria gets creamed by Stosur or Serena on down the line, I just don't want to hear anymore about Henin.

Well I'm thinking Venus is going to lose but good for her getting to the rnd of 16. I hope she takes it to a 3rd but doubt it. Her serve's gone wonky.
And fuck NBC for making watch this on a crappy stream.

Well, Vee, you let Nadia Petrova break you to win the match. GAH. There were so many opportunities to step up, but Venus just missed it. After that frame shot, Nadia could have gone all fragile, but Venus gave it away.
DAMMIT. DAMMIT. DAMMIT.

Yeh, but oops, stupid NBC embargoed all the matches so there isn't much to watch. I really (really) don't want to watch the Pennetta/Wozniacki break-fest that TTC is stuck with and the doubles just ended on court 1. And that's it--my only choices. Stupid NBC. Cannot be said enough.
eta: I probably prefer Pennetta over Wozniacki but at this point I hope Woz can close this out in two because I'm sure NBC didn't want Cilic/Soderling and if TTC can get that match in before they are forced off the air I'll be happy.
Did anyone see the Shahar Peer piece that the TTC aired during French Open Today? I had no idea that her grandmother was in Auschwitz--and the story about her brother and sister going straight to the gas chamber while only her lying about her age kept her alive? And the parents getting killed there? I'm a fan of Shahar's for life. I hope she wins this tournament.

I can hardly believe Petrova won. I mean, I kind of like her, but damn, Venus!
Wozniacki/Pennetta is exhausting to watch, and not just because I'm up early (wait, where's f'clese with my mimosa?). This match is a perfect summary of why I'm not that into Wozniacki. She's just not that interesting to watch -- no offense to her and her awesome defense, but...meh.
edited to get Pennetta's name right. Not that I really give a fuck, but it's the EngLit major in me.

Here's a virtual mimosa for you, and anyone else who joins us this early (remember, I'm on mountain time).
