Rafa himself joked about the watch is his Spanish presser after the Nico match when he was talking about the time warning.
I am so nervous for Sunday's match. I don't loathe Robin or anything but I really, really want Rafa to get another grand slam and get that number 7. In particular after all the worries for his career the past year.

I'm rooting for Robin to win it. I like them both, but with Robin, this has been a two-year narrative that has developed steadily , and it seems fitting, after being the only person to beat both Rafa and Fed on clay in I-don't-know-how-long, that he would win this title. Rafa will certainly win more slams; probably this year even. Robin, I think, has a shorter shelf life as far as the majors are concerned.

Oh yeah, I definitely think he was angling for one too--but I don't see him being one of the 40 paying for one (they're making 40!).
I'm going to be torn on Sunday. I love me some happy Rafa and I don't want him to be sad. But I'm just so in love with the Soderling narrative (such a perfect description, falafaclese) that his win wouldn't be out of the blue, or one of those crazy French upsets. It would be earned and respected and blah blah blah. AAAAAHHHHH, I'm already getting worked up!

My hatred of Soderling aside, I don't think he can beat Nadal. I think Nadal has had one set taken off of him the entire clay season - by Almagro. I really think last year Nadal lost because of his knees and I don't think Soderling will be able to take him down this time.

I am just happy this will be a competitive final - something that hasn't happened at the French the last two years. I don't know who to root for - since a Rafa win means Roger is no longer #1 but Robin has beaten both these guys in majors and proved he wasn't a one year wonder.
Berdych got to the semis because none of his matches were close. Other than beating Roger earlier in the year, the script doesn't change. I was as stunned as JMac to hear his five-set record, given his reputation. Then again, he doesn't get to five sets against big names.

I don't think we could ask for a better match-up for Sunday. Soderling trying to win his first Grand slam and becoming the first person to beat Nadal and Federer in a Grand slam. Nadal trying to exact his revenge on the guy who screwed up his French Open streak.
It's DELICIOUS!!! and it's live here in the states so we can all enjoy it together.
See you Sunday.
Oh and go Sam. I've already won the pool, but I still want you to win. You deserve it.

del Potro (sigh...stilll miss him) beat Rafa and Fed en route to his title at the USO last year.
But do agree it is a great final with all the backstory.

Oh, you're so right. I completely forgot. I remember thinking it wasn't a big deal since Rafa had never made it to the US Open finals. But my bad!!

I'm nervous.. I REALLY want Rafa to prevail, but I fear that Robin will be very VERY hard to beat tomorrow. I don't like him (or his tennis) one little bit, but I gotta hand it to him, he certainly has earned his place in the final. (oh, and HOW can he have such a sweet name? I mean, Robin...conjurs up a nice wee lad. hee hee)

Anyone up to watch this final? I'm really hoping this is a good match. Crossing my fingers here that it starts good and nerves don't take over.
It's fucking JMac commentating? Why? He knows nothing about women's tennis.
Wonder if Mary is there? She seems to have been AWOL and for that I'm praising Jesus. Can't stand her. Oh yes she's not there! Wooo hooo!

Can't tell you how thrilled I am that TSN switched from Eurosport to NBC for the women's final. Not. At least it isn't Mary.
From Nadal's presser yesterday - talking about Soderling I didn't have not one problem with him. I think he's doing well, and at the same time he improves his level of tennis. He improve his level of kind of person, no? I think he improve his personality the last year.

That seems like a truthful statement from Rafa about the Sod, lol. I can't help it but I like Robin and I'm glad he's become a nicer person. His dimples are cute.
And I have to admit Rafa has grown into a nice looking man. His hair though... I wish he wore it short and didn't part it because he does look like he's balding from the wide part.
Francie's playing pretty good. 3-all!

Okay I know who I'm rooting for -- Francie! This is probably her only chance at winning a slam whereas I think Sam has a better chance. So come on Francie and close out this 1st set! Don't get tight and don't let nerves take you over.
She's come out to play and doesn't even seem nervous. Awesome.
