Finally, the "off-season" is over! I almost didn't make it! Now I just need to acclimate myself to the Aussie swing time difference. Goodbye sleep!

I lament the lack of sleep too, but at least I don't have to rush home in time to see key matches!

I think I've mentioned this before, but I love this part of the tennis season because with all the play across different time zones, there's tennis pretty much 24 hours a day, so at any point you can pull up a match online. I just watched Sergei Bubka, Jr. (yes, THAT Sergei Bubka except, well, Jr.) beat Daniel Gimeno-Traver in straight sets, complete with a first set bagel. A pretty good victory for him, I'd imagine, except I believe he has Tsonga in the next round.
The only problem is that the video feeds seem to be lower quality all of a sudden. Hopefully it's a temporary thing.
BTW, did anyone see that Kim Clijsters accidentally posted a phone number up on twitter? Apparently people thought it was hers and started burning it up. It turns out it was the phone number of a friend of hers.

48 hours into the new season and you're already ogling? It's just shameful. But since you asked: Also, the guy on the right looks exactly like Aziz Ansari:

Dinara seems to have changed her service motion. She's now using the abbreviated straight back motion that Sharapova was using for a while.

Ahh, falafaclese, best way to start off the new year's thread is with a shirtless photo. Thank you.
Francie! Does this mean you remembered your password? Yeah!
eta: I wonder if Dinara's new motion will be easier on her back? Or if it is to help her play better? Either way, I hope it helps both.

I don't know if it's about her back, or a way of bringing down her super-high toss. I suspect it may be the latter, only because I can't visualize how the abbreviated windup would have a significant affect on her back. I'm sure we'll hear reports about it before long.
Dinara played okay. She was moving pretty well, but just got kind of tentative from time to time, and wasted moments when she maybe could have finished off the point, or at least taken full control. Yanina was doing a good job of moving her around, and controlling points herself. I'm really pulling for Dinara to at least get back into the top 15. I don't think it was a bad loss. It was a well played match, but she just has some work to do and matches to play.

I'm inclined to agree. I spent a number of months doing that abreviated motion and it was to fix my toss. I got the idea from watching Dementiava of all people. It worked though. Got rid of the wonky toss and then went back to the full motion without a problem.
Thanks for the pic Fala - I see his chest measures up to Taylor's too.

Stan Wawrinka has separated from his wife. They just got married this year, didn't they? And I thought they'd been together for a long time before that.

Yes, it's a sad situation and Stan doesn't look too good.
I understand that a wife and child will divert some attention from tennis, but there are plenty of successful tennis players who are married with children. There must be some other reasons, because otherwise he just looks like a complete asshole.

LT I did find my password, moved 400 miles and finally got a top notch TV to watch tennis on The Stan situation is sad, I hope he can maintain a relationship with the baby. I only watched the US Open sparingly, and missed the end of the year swing entirely, so I'm excited for all the AO action.

The Stan thing really does seem kind of unseemly. It makes it seem like they were on the outs already, and maybe shouldn't have gotten married in the first place. I hope it doesn't become a melodrama.
Has anyone been watching Hopman Cup? Are Mahut and Mladenovich dating? I saw them sharing a sweat towel during the mixed, and then I've seen a pic of them apparently holding hands at some point on the court. Apparently she's a foot dragger between points. There appeared to be some tension between her and Laura Robson.

I don't know. I saw both singles matches but not the mixed doubles so I didn't see Mahut Mladenovich together. I hope not though because she's 17 and he's 28. Calling her a "foot dragger" is being kind. Her behavior during her match with Robson was ridiculous.
