Well Jesus, I certainly hope that is a wildly unfounded rumor about Serena! That would be horrible on every level. So for now, I choose to utterly disbelief it. - not you grandslamguru, just the rumor.
Hmmm, these final:Surprisingly(?) I'd really kinda rather see Djok win except I'd love to see Murray win and get the Brits to stop all their moaning already. Sheesh, I'm tired of it, been tired of it.
I of course am for Kim, love Kim ... but if Na should win, no tears would be shed here, I'd be thrilled for her. Kinda interesting to watch 2 GS finals as "just tennis matches", no crazy life or death tension, just good tennis matches amongst some of the best in the world. Sounds relaxing, really.

That Serena rumor is truly sick.
The commentators have made a big deal about Federer not holding any of the Slam titles. More amazing to me is this: we know about Rafa's dominance but at the last 4 majors, Roger went QF, QF, SF, SF while Novak went QF, SF, F and now another Final.

I'm not familiar with the website but the friend who sent me the link says Sandra Rose has credibility when reporting about goings-on in Atlanta but is not sure of her track record overall.
How come I'm the last to know about the Djoker/Ana relationship?

You aren't last. . . there isn't one. They've been good friends since they were little kids (unless that's what you meant about a relationship? Yeesh, where's my head--always going straight to the lovey-dovey stuff). He has a long-term girlfriend.
When I saw Woz in Andy's box I started worrying that rumors were going to start there since Kim stayed in England this tournament.

It's poker night at Tikihouse, so I don't know how likely I am to make the women's final tonight. I would like to, but it seems unlikely...and a pity, because I have zero interest in the men's final. I mean, I'd be in the awkward position of rooting for Groundskeeper Willie. Eek.

Fraid not me oops. Course a miracle could happen and I'd be awake, but doubtful. I do care about the match, but not enough to stay up all night for it

Don't think I'll be up either, although I'm not in the States. It's on at 2:30 in the morning and I know I'll fall asleep.

I'm going to try to take a nap around 11 then arise for the final. But frankly, I suspect I'll just roll over and mutter, "Screw you, alarm. It's Saturday so don't try to play me." Hours later I'll wake up with a start.

I saw that Serena rumor too and was totally shocked. It hasn't appeared anywhere else that I've seen (though I would mainly see it as a Google headline if so) but seems to me the "losing her leg" was a speculative headline. Still that image with Serena not walking was disturbing. I really really hope she will be okay.
I'm not sure how I will feel about watching the men's final but I have the feeling that the camera going back and forth between Judy Murray and the Djokers will be good entertainment. I guess I would rather Murray win, after all Nole has an AO already and Murray would be starting to get into early Lendl-mode if he goes 0-3 in GS finals.
(BTW I think the players of that era, meaning Mac, Connors, Lendl, should be glad there were no message boards in the 70s-80s! Not a friendly bunch, especially with each other.)
ETA re staying up - unfortunately even with my afternoon-evening shift I can't make it to 3:30 as mentioned but will definitely DVR the match. I will be thrilled for Li if she can win. If not she has still had a great run.
ETA again - my listings have Tennis Channel re-running the women's final Saturday at 11 AM eastern.

Sheesh, back in the day they had the women's final at 9pm est (1pm melbourne, and the men's at 10 and 2 resectively, right? European time that would've been rougly 2-3pm start time and(okay, I know I got the European times all messed up there, would be ummm - 3-4am there) ... well doable for most of the world. Nope, can't win for losing trying to match u with most of the tennis watching world) ...I do understand that this is the Australian Open and they'd like a nght match as well as anyone, but really is it worth the price paid? The majority of the world knows the results long before we have a chance of actually watching it, and soeaking strictly for myself - NO, I don't give that much of a shit, sorry.
Yes, yes, I'm still up - but if you think Clijsters-Li is gonna keep me up, dream on. I've just finished re-reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (wracking sobs), that's why I'm up, not for the dumb tennis match. I'm sure the timing is great for Ozzies, but if you really want the rest of thw world to care in this internet age - it won't do.
And sorry, fucking Australian Open can just bite me. The Federer era is truly over, signed, sealed, and delivered here. Do I think he'll remain a top player a while yet? Oh yes. Do I think he'll win at least ons more Slam, definitely yes. And yea, yeah, alll things pass, alll things change, everybody loses sometime, every "great one" has a successor - but I'm not ready.
So a mixture of I don't care that much about the players in the finals, along with heavy mourning. Shrugs - you love someone this much, it hurts when it's over. Still glad, absolutely thrilled at the time we had. just feels too soon to end.
(And my cat Benny, I assum ewishes to endorse my feelings as he has just now decided to climb all over my typing hand and nudge the keyboard, and do every cat pain in the ass thing available to him. I choose to translate that as no, no ROGER wins ROGER damni!) Course I ain't dumb, I know what it really means is feed me!, but let me have my fantasies

And while I'm ranting: Djok vs Murray? Talk about a no-win situation. I think I can take the Djok on his own just fine, he seems like an okay guy, has wised up and matured about the retirements, and god knows he's a hell of a player. But those horrific 'rents, shudder.
I gave it a good honest try at liking Murray and I just can't seem to do it. I don't hate him or anything, but fine'n'fucking dandy with me if he never wins a Slam. Again, except for the horrific British media.
The women are a delight be comparison. I defintely prefer Kim, but what thrill if Na wins. No bad outcome there,, but nor is there one I care enogh to stay up for. Wrapping up my book and nite-nite!
