Wow has it been that long already? I can't get past it either. I sure can hold a grudge! Fat Dave was looking extra tubby today, which makes the win even more gratifying. Speaking of guys' hair, I'm a bit disturbed to realize that I find Soderling quite hot with his current hairstyle. How could you resist! Seriously though, he isn't bad. I've placed some evidence over in the gutter thread.I don't think it was foolish to think that Ana would do better than a first round loss. She was playing well at the end of last year and at Hopman, and is looking fit. I can't believe she's out this quickly.

Darn tooting! The Bat Sense tingled. I for one was thrilled to see him back. Clapping and the whole nine yards during the match. He is not back to his best yet but his serve looks pretty good and there were some swoon-worthy forehands. His net game and moving up into the court needs work but that may come with time back. And I don’t care if I am a sole island of one here- I thought the first set tie-break was fun and entertaining and I am very pleased he is back. Yahoo! By numerous accounts- he is a good and sweet egg off the court so I am so very happy for him to be back after a very tough year- one where he may have thought he would never come back. And he got emotional during his press conference when he talked about how he wanted to thank people for supporting him- including fans and other players. Bless…<3 A German journalist who is pretty respected said that Delpo had a very, very tough time during his time off so it is so sweet for me to see him taking his first steps back. Conversley- one player that a lot of folks love because he is So!Witty! but I do not enjoy is Gulbis. He acts too much like a bored hipster at times....like he can't even bother with tennis because it is not "cool" enough. The Nalby/Hewitt match was old school and fun. I like Nalby too. The press may not like him- but he seems like actually he would be a fun friend as he has a good but not sleazy time off court. And when he doesn't give a whit about a match it is because of important things- like wanting to watch the national Argie soccer team play an important match. I do get annoyed that when the announcers keep talking about Safina's rough year they barely mention her injury. Dudes- her back was freaking broken. Must return now to Protect My Fave Players headquarters. Nico Almagro is playing tonight so I need to rest up before the night mission.

Oh you are not, Chesty! I only watchd his first set because I fell asleep but I was cheering him on. I like Juan and I think tennis is better off when he's up at the top. Heck, I even cheered for him against Feli in Sydney and I don't cheer against Feli very often.

I like Juan too, both on the court and off. I don't mind the languid nature of his game, especially since I think a lot of it is a result of his build. I find Ljubicic has a similar feel when he's playing (he doesn't look like his working hard, but then a cannonball comes off his racquet), and I like him too. Also, the shy, mellow vibe Juan gives off the court is cool too.

Welcome back, chesty! And:
I'm with you. He strikes me as a little twit. (Please everyone note the enormous restraint I exercised in typing an "i" there, rather than an "a.")
Okay, I'm ready for tennis now, but we've got three hours to wait. "Snakes on a Plane" will get me partway there...

Brutal first round matches, damn. Safina obviously I didn't expect her to win, but ouch.
And I'm no great fan of Hewitt, but in this case I do feel for him, Nalby when on is right up there, and Hewitt has come back after 2 surgeries (oww oww oww) and to go out first round at home just sucks. Not that I wanted to see Nalbandan lose either. I did see the latter part of tht match and there were some awesome points, amazing tennis. I dozed off some of the time, so I don't know that it was all that high quality, but the bits I was awake for were great.

I'm catching up with the Nalbandian v Hewitt match now on ESPN2. I know it's cliche at this point to complain about that particular network's coverage and commentary, but Brad Gilbert keeps saying "Nal-BAHN-dee-an," and it is driving me up the effing wall. Granted, Brad Gilbert talking period tends to have that effect on me, but still. And, since I tend to refer to him only (and affectionately) as Fat Dave, that could actually be the correct pronunciation as far as I know, but Gilbert's the only one saying it, and it's distracting from what has been a pretty terrific match overall.
Saw that Clijsters claims to have felt bad for Safina but was quick to mention that she had no intention of giving her a "sympathy game." Nice to see that Clijsters is willing to betray at least a little bit of a competitive edge, since this really does seem like her title to lose.

I'm watching that match too, omophagia, and can't agree more re: Gilbert. I tend to assume he says everything incorrectly. This is, after all, the guy who was struggling to describe basic colors the other day...a task that most kindergarteners are up to.
Fat Dave almost always moves better than I expect him to, with that atypical tennis build. As for Hewitt, I too haven't (won't) forgive him for the Blake incident. Some things are just unforgivable. And I'm a vindictive bitch.
I see on the schedule that we'll be (un)fortunate enough to catch Roddick's junk-tugging early tonight.

Could Vania King be any cuter? Lacoste always dresses her so nicely. But, Wozniacki is destroying her out there--which really sucks because King has a game I love to watch.

I enjoy Vania too, and never get to see enough of her because she doesn't win enough in singles.

Vania King is totally adorable. Too bad she doesn't have a bigger game. As for Woz...christ, that dress is just heinous. You could put it on Venus and it would make Venus look chunky. Stella McCartney is a moron, at least as far as tennis clothes are concerned, and Woz should know better. I mean, surely she owns a mirror?
AO martinis for all! Okay, for me.

Awww, the slow and inexorable decline of Tommy Robredo. Makes me very sad.
I see Feli is in doubles with the other Juan--Monaco.

Nishikori is pretty easy on the eyes. I dig the matching watch. Yes, I'm easy.
Is it wrong that I really like Bill Macatee?

Me too but at least he's taken a set off of Fish. Verdasco hasn't won a game against Tipsarevic.
