Weird, I do have ESPN2 here--even though I don't think they are supposed to have it.
I saw the first two sets and had to work during the 2nd two and now Fed is down a break in the fifth? What the hell?!? Is this one of Roger's "figured I was going to win" and can't get himself back into it? I'm watching Tsonga racing into net and dictating play where he couldn't buy a net game in the first two sets.
apocalipstick, I don't think any thinks Rafa is a faker--PMac said he was hypochondriac and, as lb pointed out, DelPo was calling the umpire a liar, not Rafa. The question is more why does Rafa think his injuries are so awful? Do they feel that bad when they happen and then the pain goes away? After his serious knee injuries, does the pain make him think that horribleness is happening all over again? I'm beginning to wonder if it is his OCD--when something feels different than it is supposed to maybe it affects him in a different way than it would another player.

Watching when I can on the NBC.com feed. They have picture-in-picture this time. Is Roger losing control of this match? It looks like Tsonga has calmed down and is playing well, but I can't tell if Roger's having problems with his game, or just not having answers for Tsonga.

Okay, it's not listed as being on ESPN2, but they're showing it. Ugh, come on, Feds!
For the many of you who missed Tennis Heaven Chicago 2012, what a blast. Huge thanks to lt and oops for meeting me and easing my train ride with martinis!

Watching Tsonga all week and at Queens, I think it's just that he's raised his level recently. This isn't the Novak/Tomic game where both were giving points away at times. Both are playing well I think but now Tsonga's gotten over whatever nerves bothered him in the first set and the tiebreak. What I mean to say is I surprisingly think this game is on Tsonga's raquet, not Fed's.
That said, can never count Federer out. Could easily break back if Tsonga's serve fails him within one game just like it did Djoko earlier today.

Tsonga/Fed is on ESPN2 here in NYC.
ETA: Oh, someone beat me to it.

The commentators are saying Roger's gone lifeless after losing the 3rd set--is that pretty accurate? I can see Tsonga playing better so it's not like it's just Roger's play that has changed everything around but it looks like he might be part of it. I adore Tsonga, but not more than Roger and not his chances against Novak.
Oh goodness, I forgot. No one has ever beaten Roger after being two sets down. (Thanks for reminding me Dick.) That's a streak I never want to go away so now my stomach is aching even more.

So Djoker takes Tomic 7-5 in the fifth fourth. Talk about a no-win situation. Although gun to my head, I think I would have been rooting for Djoker.

I disagree with the commentators to the extent that lifeless is too strong. Fed's level dropped a bit. But I've only watched a point or two a set since the first one. Tsonga's been ball bashing with good results.
OMG! I knew there would be an upset but for reason, I wasn't convinced that would be it. I really wanted it to be Lopez over Murray. I'm really, really happy for Tsonga though. I have always loved him. If he plays like he did today and Djoko plays like he did today, god - who knows? He may make the finals!!!

Poor Roger.
OK I want Tsonga to win the tournament now, not just make it easier for someone else. I do enjoy his play.
Though I was too nervous to watch the end of this.

Wow. I was rooting for Tsonga after he found his game (this coming from a Fed fan!) but you're right when you say you can never count Fed out. I'm actually happy he won.
Didn't JWT actually beat him once after being down two sets?
ETA: Actually no, he didn't. I was thinking of the match where he won the first set, lost the second to Fed 1-6, and then Fed was up 5-1 or 5-2 in the third, but ended up losing to JWT.

Hewitt beat Federer in Davis Cup after being down two sets. It was right after Federer won Wimbledon for the first time.
I'm a big Nadal fan, but I'm rooting for a Murray/Tsonga final. It's time for someone new to break through.

I only saw a bit of the last set but Tsonga appeared to be on fire. The power and the wicked angles were too hard to overcome. It didn't appear that Fed was playing badly -- it just wasn't his day.

I don't know. I think "lifeless" is pretty accurate. It makes me think of Roger describing how when he was a kid and things wouldn't go well in a match, his first adjective was "sad." (Which I think is actually really cute, and a lovely admission from a champion athlete.) But I wouldn't be surprised if his inclination to get "sad" might account for the passive-looking (I stress the word "looking") play we see from him on some big occasions.
All that said, I totally agree with roseha that now I want JW to take the whole thing.
And, fala, the match where JW beat Fed was a three-set match that Fed led 5-1 in the third. I don't know how the first two sets were distributed.

I would LOVE that final! Can you imagine the shot making? Of course I'm rooting for Feli but Feli/Andy is no-lose for me.
So the streak is for Majors? Interesting. . .
