From the files of "Let's-Think-Before-We-Scoff-at-Athletes'-Injuries:" www.tennis.com/ticker/index.aspx. Nadal was playing with a hairline fracture in his foot. Another article said that the rest of his season is in jeopardy. Also, anyone notice that Fognini hasn't played since the French? (John W. pointed this out in SI)

Yowza! So they did a MRI and not an X-Ray? How does that make sense. . . I definitely thought he was exaggerating the pain and I was wrong.
Yeah for no more NBC at Wimbledon. Can't believe they were going to try to pass their coverage over to Versus. It sucks that it has come down to less and less tennis on the networks but having ABC do the taped coverage for the weekend while ESPN keeps the live coverage will have to do for now. I, too, wonder about the French. How much longer does NBC's contract go for?

The day that report came out about Rafa, there were a couple of tweets from someone who claimed to be Benito Barbadillo (Rafa's PR person) stating that he did not have a hairline fracture, and would not be out for six weeks. According to the tweets, he will be taking some time off, playing a golf tournament on July 16th, and then resuming practice on July 17th. Although I wasn't sure if it was legit, I leaned toward believing it since the tweets were retweeted by Tom Perotta who is a senior editor for Tennis Magazine. I just saw today that Neil Harman of the London Times, who was the first person that I saw reporting about the fracture (on Twitter, mind you), retracted his statement.
I still don't think there was anything inauthentic about Rafa's behavior during the JMdP match, or the reports of the pain he's been feeling since then, but it looks to me like whatever it is, it's not a fracture.
Apropos of nothing, but just a mildly interesting coincidence: Barbadillo also represents Fognini.

Thanks for the update, fala. So glad it's not a fracture, assuming a fracture is the worst it could be. I wonder what Harman's original source for the fracture story was.
(I'm going to have to find someone to school me on the best way to use Twitter without having to follow people who only produce a few tweets a month that might be of interest.)

harry I use tweetdeck, I generally "unfollow" those who tweet too much! Like 20 times a day...or more...
