Go Sam!
I've never liked Ms Williams, but in the past few matches she has very loudly, very aggressively shouted "come on!" to herself. It's made me dislike her even more.
I actually don't think Ms Williams' waist is little at all; her ass is ginormous, so it makes her waist look small by comparison.
ETA: Fuck, now she's yelling "come on" during the point! And then has the nerve to argue about replaying the point? Un-fucking-believable.
ETA: And now she's going after the chair umpire some more! She's such an arrogant bitch. And the crowd makes me sick in its defense of her.

I think Sam was probably wishing it was just a let. Giving her the point only woke the beast and I think Sam knew that would happen. I hate that Serena has become the person who lets perceived slights fire her up in matches. She's too good of a player to need that.
I can see Serena in the post-match now, giggling and saying that screaming during a point isn't such a big deal. . .
Dammit, I didn't care who won before and now I care very much. Go Sam!

LOL Virgina Wade is saying, "I can't believe she's turning this around and making herself the victim in this."
ETA: More Wade: "It's just too sad that a great player like Serena Williams can't fight her way back into the match playing fair and square." Too true.

ETA: And now she's going after the chair umpire some more! She's such an arrogant bitch. And the crowd makes me sick in its defense of her. I don't know how well she knows the rule on this, but I thought the proper response from the chair was to call a let. According to the tournament ref, I was wrong, but JMac even thought that, so it's certainly possible Serena mistakenly thought the umpire was wrong. Hopefully they can both get past it and play a good match.

Okay, now she's turned into Roddick. She needs to get over it.

falafaclese, the last thing Serena said to the chair ump was "weren't you the one who screwed me over last time too?" She was wrong then, she's wrong now and she never sees that she's in the wrong on the tennis court and now we're going to have to listen to this for the next two years.
OMIGOD! Did you HEAR what she said during that changeover!?! (talking about two years ago) "I get a code violation because I'm expressing myself. . . we're in America. Don't look at me." I officially cannot stand Serena Williams. Because in my America? You don't get to verbally abuse someone without a bit of penalty.

Yeah, I heard that, and I agree that she's wrong. As far as the comment, at first, I thought she was referring to the bad line call situation happened in 2004 that supposedly resulted in hawkeye. The ump then was Mariana Alves who I've always thought looks very similar to Eva Asderaki.

Go Mary! (And it's been years since I've wanted to say that.) She just called John out for pulling the same crap during changeovers and having the opponent's rhythm go off. John tried to play it off, but Mary wouldn't go for it.

I think it was an oddly aggressive call. Even if it's the rule, it's obviously a poorly-understood one - not at all common knowledge - and to be so bold about converting a break point is shocking to me. For 5 years I have complained loudly about the passivity and conservatism of the umping (especially with the egregious and getting-worse amount of time some men take between points, and the hideous howling that so many women pass as grunts) - and I am shocked to see such a call at such a crucial moment in light of all those benefits of the doubt that are granted.
Especially when the intentions behind it aren't there. Even Mary has acknowledged that she clearly was not trying to disrupt the point, but thought she had hit a clear winner at a crucial time.
Because the truth is that there was the potential to have them both negatively afftected by this.
ANyway - Serena should learn from the Roddick example that keeping her emotions in on those changeovers would appear to be a much better strategy than berated the ump.

Sorry, but I just don't see how anyone can imagine that screaming encouragement to oneself before the point is over is anything but illegal and disruptive. The fact that Carillo can try to defend such an obviously boneheaded display is disappointing and, frankly, the fact that anyone can defend Serena after her behavior at her last Open, especially in light of her behavior today, is just gross.
And Sam wins. Thank goodness. And I don't think Serena shook the chair umpire's hand.
Ha! Now the USOpen.org announcer calls out Serena for not shaking the chair's hand: "That would have been too classy for Serena."

I started out rooting for Serena to win this, but I'm really proud of Sam for keeping it together during that drama. She was clearly outplaying Serena before that even happened, and could have easily gone off the rails. If anything, the drama made Serena play better, but in the end, Sam came out there to play her game and win, and she did.

I'm going to take this as a positive sign of the past 10 years but the last Aussie to win the US Open was Hewitt in 2001. That's a little freaky.
Serena: "I hit a winner and I guess it didn't count." I'm sorry, WHAT?!?

Yes, but I suspect the last time JMac actually, you know, looked up a rule or, you know, waited to be told what the rule actually is, was ... never. He is so irresponsible in situations like this, getting all outraged, fanning flames, all the while blissfully ignorant of actual facts.
And, yes, Serena has once again confirmed my initial dislike of her, acting as though the universe revolves around her. Everything and everyone else should bow before her special Serena talent, special Serena charm and special Serena specialness.
And, yes, way to go, Mary for calling JMac out on this occasion.
ETA: Oh, yes, and btw, way to go, Stosur for playing with tremendous guts, focus and determination. A breath of fresh air in the women's game of late. Brava.

I'm pretty sure Serena didn't intend to jump the gun on yelling like that. And my impression was that she didn't think it was legal to yell, rather that she thought the punishment was wrong, as did I at first. That said, none of us will ever know for sure what she was thinking.

Same thing happened to me. I'm sorry that the talk after the match will doubtless be about the stupid controversy, rather than Stosur's unbelievably fabulous play.
