I've been watching, fala. Petra's withdrawn because of a viral infection and Sam's her replacement.
Serena vs Li Na was pretty bad. Multiple breaks and a bunch of errors. Serena's serve went on a walkabout and Li Na couldn't take advantage.
I was hoping for Serena vs Vika in the final, but they're in the same group. I guess it will either be Vika/Serena vs Sharapova in the final. Though Aga could sneak in.

No, they could still play each other in the final. After the round robin, the top two from each group move to the semi-finals. The #1 from one pool plays the #2 from the other pool and vice versa. The winners of the two semi-finals play each other in the final. If Serena and Vika finish #1 and #2 and both win their semi-final matches they will play each other in the final.

Thanks, breezy. I forgot it was round-robin. I gotta say that Kerber's playing great right now against Vika. She played well for a while against Serena too. Well not so great in the tie-break right now.

Serena vs Li Na was pretty bad. Multiple breaks and a bunch of errors. Serena's serve went on a walkabout and Li Na couldn't take advantage. I was distracted, so I didn't notice the bad serving. I noticed that the rallies were exciting, their movement was good, and that there were a lot of breaks, I thought it was just because they're both such great returners. I'll have to check out some of the replay when I have a chance. The Kerber/Vika match must have been entertaining based on the scoreline. I didn't get to see it though.

Good win for Serena, though the score shouldn't have been so close, but I have to say that Maria made it a match and it was good to see. I'm definitely looking forward to 2013 and the Oz Open.
Didn't get to see the Swiss indoors final. Anyone watch? Was Roger playing well and Del Po just played better?

del Potro beat Federer in Basel (after their last two matches, can't say I'm that surprised), then Federer withdrew from Paris.
As a result, Djokovic has locked up year-end #1. It would have been nearly impossible even if Roger played Paris - he basically would have had to repeat last year and hope Djokovic did nothing.
Just noticed that Gasquet is currently in the driver's seat for the alternate spot. Almagro, Monaco, Raonic and Isner all had chances but lost early in Shanghai and/or Valencia.

It was a pretty good match this morning - or afternoon in Basel. It was close - and tense - and I think Roger seemed to succumb to fatigue in the 3rd tiebreaker. Well played by delPo. Roger was underdog the whole way... Crowd was like DC, of course, but very respectful. Didn't get to see the trophy ceremony, though. Hoping it's somewhere on youtube.

I had really hoped that he would have been able to leapfrog Tipsy. I'm not in the mood to see Tipsy in London. I think I'm good with everyone else.
My heart skipped such a beat when I saw that Roger withdrew from Paris! I hope it is just to rest and get rid of some of the "niggling" (his words) injuries his body is dealing with. I'll cry if he were to not show up in London.
falafaclese and all the fellow NJ/NY'ers--good luck the next few days. My company has already closed for both Monday and Tuesday and I'm busy charging everything chargeable in my house.

I must say, I completely slept on the seriousness of this storm. I was kind of surprised to see city and federal government here closing down. I have a deadline to meet tomorrow, and I'm a little taken aback that I'm not sure whether the due date will be affected. Bad form on my part. Oh well. At least I have food, etc. in the house. As long as I have power, I can at least finish on my laptop, and I'll have to make some calls tonight. Stay safe everyone! Hopefully this all ends up being an overreaction.
It was a nice performance by Serena this morning. Maria came out firing, and I thought it would be even closer than it was. Actually, the final scoreline makes the match seem closer than it felt as I was watching it. It's quite astounding how Serena has shut Maria down since 2004. With Maria playing better now than she did at the start of last year, Vika seeming to maintain her form for the most part, and Serena being, well, Serena, the beginning of 2013 could be very interesting.

Everything is good here. Some people in my area lost power, but I had no problems. It doesn't seem like there was major destruction here, although there was some damage from what I can see. It looks like it hit harder further north, although I have family near Philly, and they did okay too. It looks like New Jersey, New York and Connecticut got it pretty bad.

Hope everyone is doing okay! Are you okay in NJ lt? I'm in Manhattan, and very fortunate to have power, heat, hot water. (Nearly everyone below 39th street is down due a shutdown to avoid flooding and a Con Ed explosion). Only my cell service is affected, but I can still call on wifi and my landline works. My company is located in the evacuation zone downtown, and have just called us for the third time to tell us to stay home Wednesday, so no work yet this week. I have enough food for the time being, I wonder how long this aftermath will go on. Everyone else in my family lost power.
Back to tennis - sorry to hear Roger has withdrawn from Paris, but I can't believe he will skip London, lt - let's hope for the best there.

I am guessing that skipping Paris is so that he can be strong at London. He being Roger, that is.
Check in soon, lt. Glad to know you're ok, fala and roseha.
Some pretty compelling images around out there. Stay out of the subways, at least!

Thanks oops - don't worry, I'd take the bus if I had to but I don't know if my company will even get their power back this week.
The rest of my family lost power but many people did far worse. Some of the images on TV are devastating. I'll be staying in for another day since I've got enough food.

Going on 48 hours without power but, fortunately, no damage to the house. The college I work at has cancelled classes until Monday but the building is open so I'm taking advantage of their power.
Looks like Djokovic is ready for London already - he lost first match to Sam Querrey even though he barely lost a point in the first set.
ETA: Just got power back.
