It wasn't that much fun at the end, lizm -- more like waiting to see who would lose rather than who would win.
Hope you make a comeback, oops! And hope you can make it with me for a while, fala. I'm trying to think positive, be happy about getting some boring chores done, and get to see a good match.

Well, here I am with a lot of clean clothes and dishes, hoping someone will join me...
Totally off-topic, but I thought I'd mention that I got a Nook for xmas, and I'd be happy to share books; if anyone wants to be Nook friends, feel free to send me a PM.

I like Li Na, I don't like to see he- do badly, but I love Kim the most, so the -esult is just fine by me.
About to go to bed. Yeah, it's Sat night and my guy is playing, but it's also almost 4 ... love has its limits I guess. And I do love just the sound of this match. Tomic:dink, donk, plunk, ping. Fed:thwack, bang, thwack. It's funny, the cont-ast. Not taking anything away f-om Tomic's game, the way he plays is legit, I mean you win the match and it is won. But ... I could be wrong(omg I hope I'm not wrong tonight), they don't seem quite in the same league, do they?
Maybe it's just me and excessive reve-ence fo- Fed. I don't want Tomic to feel the same, if you'-e playing the match and in too much awe, you just don't belong the-e. But me, all awe all the time.
I'd like to stay up and watch, but I'm gonna get a call way too ea-ly that I have to dig out and move my ca- fo- the plows. Happy it didn't happen today(snowed past sunset), won't make it any easie- at wtf-o-clock. Be good Fed, nighty night all.

Nice win for Federer, and gracious as always. Poor me, I'm kind of wired now. But I know that I can count on Snoozniacki to put me to sleep.
ETA Roger, please don't try to disguise your nose-picking on camera. Actually, just don't pick your nose. Also, man, you are as hairy as a Sasquatch. I love you; I'm just saying'...

Hello! Time for my usual field report from the Aussie Open.
I finally got to take a look at Del Potro and I was there when he demolished Kohlschreiber. This guy is good: really effing good. And he wasn't even putting much effort into finishing Philip off, he was knocking off winners effortlessly off both wings.
Del Potro has also replaced Tsonga as most powerful player I have seen live. That forehand is a beast. A beast, I tell ya. If they don't schedule him and Federer for the night match on Tuesday, I will be screaming at AO officials. That is going to be a hell of a match.
Also, side note on Juan Martin: he treats ball boys appallingly. He snapped at some kid who didn't give him his towel the way he wanted and then he pretty much gave the business to another ball kid. Yes, I know, it's a Grand Slam and you have won one before but for god's sake, be nice to the kids who idolize you.
So between Del Potro, Federer, Djokovic, Nadal, Gasquet, Tsonga and the wonder from Kazhakstan, I believe that I have now presented all the dudes who have a conceivable chance of winning this thing. (Unless you count Berdych as a serious contender, which I don't.) Oh yeah, and Andy Murray.
So which bachelor will it be? I'll be posting some pics of two chicks named Martina, some of Del Potro and Philip and Jo Willy who I found on court 17. Didn't stay for his can-can dance but he was hitting with a guy who is supposedly his brother. HOT. Jo Willy's brother makes my loins quiver.

AIEE: redact, redact, redact. Whoever this piece of hotness was, he's NOT Jo Willy's brother. Leave it to me to take the word of another bystander. Sorry folks! tinypic.com/r/15chb2x/7Del Potro, the incredibly gifted bane of all ballboys: tinypic.com/r/2qnmvcp/5Del Potro is so good, he can return serves with his eyes closed: tinypic.com/r/zvym8l/7Phillip, who is a player who doesn't get enough credit for how fun he is to watch: tinypic.com/r/eal26o/7Jo Willy, who is lovely and gracious and ever so sweet: tinypic.com/r/anosvr/7He has a devoted fan base who go to all of his matches, so today he got them passes for the restricted areas and invited them over to hang with him on the practice courts. Because he's just that kind of guy. Chucky, the return: tinypic.com/r/1xykw9/7She's actually very pretty and very fit in person. She was also saddled with a useless partner, Majoli, who started cramping in the middle of the doubles match. Some other chick: tinypic.com/r/dqj6h1/7

I miss Youzhny. Where is he? He lost first round to Golubev. I'm being serious. Over the years I've tried to like Berdych. Then stuff like today happens and I'm glad I never got on board that train. What a jerk! As annoying as the Aussie crowds can get, I loved how loud they cheered Almagro and booed Berdy during the on-court interview. It had been a very good match that's now tainted thanks to his lack of class. The sad part is I think he can beat Rafa but he'll have zero support now. If he wanted to be Lendl (as in, hated during his playing days), he's definitely got that role now. I do think we got a scenario in which Wozniacki is now the favorite against Clijsters... or at least favored to win by retirement/walkover. What a houdini act Kim pulled (but I feel sorry for Li Na and her husband more).

One last note: look out for this junior. www.australianopen.com/en_AU/players/overview/add005501.htmlJoshua Ward-Hibbert, from the UK. I watched him return several 180kph serves with single-handed backhands down the line, three consecutive times for a perfect break game. He's good and he plays good power tennis with classical touch.

I am now currently searching for recordings of the match I slept through - my first experience with cable-cutting regret.

One minute I was watching tennis, and the next thing I knew it was like 9am. A little disorienting. ETA: Berdych's post-match interview. The crowd was not amused. It'll be interesting to see how the crowd responds when he takes the court against Rafa in his next match.

Wait, what happened in the Almagro match? Anyone care to fill me in?
And this makes me think of chestylarue. Her DelPo defense sensors must be tingling. But I'm so sorry to hear this. He seems like such a sweetheart.
Awesome photos, pw!

That video shows the extent of it, harry. Almagro hit Berdych with a shot that he hit on the run, it didn't seem intentional, and Berdych held a grudge and wouldn't shake his hand at the end of the match. The crowd really raked him over the coals as a result.

LOVE! And I agree about Kohlschreiber, he's a fun player to watch.
I only watched a bit of the first and second sets, but I was rooting for Berdych. I'm not really a fan of Almagro's but, more importantly, I think Berdych has a better chance of beating Rafa and I want that to happen. Rafa is the first player that I've stopped being a fan of when they were still playing on the tour. I went through the same thing with Andre, but only after he stopped playing and I found out more about him as a person. I don't know anything about Rafa as a person, but it's gotten to the point where everything he does annoys me.
I was hoping to watch the Fed/Tomic match when ESPN2 did their AO airing this afternoon but Joe Pa's death knocked that tennis repeat coverage out of the schedule. Only going by the scoreline, it looks like it was a comprehensive win.

Man, that was a boneheaded move by Berdych. I'm known to love hating villains, so I don't care really... but I can't imagine the atmosphere from here on out will be very pleasant for him. So really? Screwing yourself because you don't want to shake hands? Idiotic.
I expected the entire Woz/Jank match to be like the second set. I feel a bit sorry for Jank nowadays, it's like she really minds being homely. Liking your looks is best but if not, better to not really care, dear, let me tell you from experience.
