Hey peeps- long time no read.
As a fan of Nico - I was incensced by Tomas' refusal to shake Almagro 's hand and then his continual bashing of Nico afterwards. Bitch please. What Nico did was acceptable and since he was down low - he didn't have the open court. And did Tomas ever watch Lendl? He used that move a lot. It happens all the time in dubs. And Nico apologized on court- you big baby.
Nico has the rep of being a stinker - but has matured and as some of his Spanish interviews have revealed- is a self aware stinker who will call himself out. I thought he handled the situation well . And I like that his talent is starting to finally shine through On hards.
Hmm- as Harry astutely predicted - my Spidey sense tingled re Delpo. I have heard he is not always the best w ball kids- an area for improvement. Ironically , he can also be very teasing and sweet w them - like w the bird poop incident earlier this tourney. Btw- I loved Roger's words about Delpo in his on-court interview last night. It was just a great interview by Roger as a whole.

Printwhore- thanks for the pics. Jo Willy's smile is just gorgeous. He is one of the players that I would love to see win the tournament. (I am basically rooting for Jo, Delpo, Andy or Ferru.). I lurve Rafa and Roger but I want someone besides the big 3.
For the gals, I think Victoria, Petra and Aggie are the players I most want to win now that Li Na is out.
Sorry Serbs, but Nole and Ana are the players I least want to win. Nole because while I don't loathe him, is not a fave and I am not keen in another year of his domination. Ana because she annoys the freak out of me. Portrays herself as so sweet but then fistpumps on every single ue of her opponent. I would rather her drop the facade. I will take Maria's in your face attitude any day instead of fake sweetness.

I feel a bit sorry for Jank nowadays, it's like she really minds being homely. Liking your looks is best but if not, better to not really care, dear, let me tell you from experience. What gave you that impression, lizm? I haven't been paying that much attention to her, other than, because of my distaste for her attitude, I'm fine with seeing her drop out of the top ten (and consequently off my tv screen). That said, I don't wish her any ill.

I don't know, I just don't see anybody toppling the big three. They are way too dominant. For someone to go through this tournament beating some combination of federer/Rafa/djokovic is a big ask. Maybe Del Potro can do it because he has done it before, but as for Tsonga, he is not playing clean tennis the way the other guys are.
As for Del Potro, I'm only reporting what I saw/observed so I don't know how he is with the other ball kids. But he was definitely a prick to the ones in this match. As in, give me my towel the special way I want it, like this, NOW. It was also forty degrees out so maybe he was grumpy but Phillip managed to be nice. Hopefully I get to see him and Federer on Tuesday night, that should be a blockbuster.
I am still going to be singing the praises of this Joshua Ward-Hibbert kid. I think he's the best junior Britain's got and get this: he's ranked number 33 in the world for tennis AND he was MVP for Britain when they won the under 18 European championships for basketball. That, to me, is insane: how does someone get internationally ranked in two sports simultaneously? Gifted. Super gifted kid. Hope he does not choose basketball.
Anyway I will try to drop by today to get Roger to finally sign that silly RF hat I bought but maybe he will be a diva again and decide not to sign anything after practice. Ech. So I will be on site from Monday until Wednesday, and then that's it for this year.

Printhwhore- I am not in any way disputing what you observed-like I have said, I have heard he can be cranky with the ball kids. It is just funny, he can be cranky (needs improvement for sure) at times and teasing and friendly at the other. Sounds like needs to realize the little nippers are not his pesky younger siblings or cousins but rather kiddos that you should not be cranky to! He does seem like a nice guy out of that so I hope he fixes that pronto.
Speaking of ball kids- supposidly Sabine Lisicki is really nice with them. Victoria- big old cranky pants.
Will have to keep an eye out for Joshua Ward-Hibbert.
Did you by any chance get to see Sloane Stephens while you were there? I don't know if she was in the juniors as well as the main draw. She really seems like she has the game and I am adoring her personality. I have decided that she and Nishikori would make an adorable couple....
While Jelena is no classic beauty and is all about the glitter I don't think she is homely at all. Different opinions of beauty and all that- but I think she has an interesting look- and imo has a great figure. She also tends to have some of the best tennis dresses on tour imo. She can be a drama queen that makes me roll my eyes but I do not think she is ugly. I was disappointed in her effort against Woz yesterday though.

Same here. I've been meaning to say that part of why I'm enjoying Raonic's success right now is that I feel like we were talking about him like two or three years ago before he was the latest thing. I can't remember who brought him up first, but I know we were aware of him when he had the good run at the Roger's Cup, and it was after that that the majority of the commentators started kvelling about him. No better way to stay ahead of tennis news than "hanging around" with this crowd.

That would be breezy! Doing her job as a proud Canadian. And I agree, falafaclese, It's exciting to watch an up-and-comer do their thing so I'll keep an eye on Ward-Hibbert as well. It's the anglophile in me, but I would like the UK to have a solid group of players. Does he work with Judy Murray at the LTA? She's great on twitter talking about the kids.

I pretty much missed the matches except for the Roger/Tomic which I recorded - and that was fun to watch - but I'm old enough to remember that Lendl did that hit-you-with-the-ball play to net-rushers like Edberg and while I didn't like it the players seemed to accept it back then and no one refused to shake his hand as far as I can remember.
It would be interesting if someone asked Lendl about it now since he's there. Has anything much happened during the Murray matches, meaning reactions from Ivan?
So do people think Tomic will be a Slam champion someday? I liked that Roger called him a "mystery" since he is still so young. Ha.
I feel awful for Li Na but players do get over these bad experiences so I hope she will. Roger lost from those two match points at USO but didn't lose again the rest of the year.

Thanks for the explanation about the Berdych-Almagro bit, falafaclese. I couldn't get that pesky vid to work on my recalcitrant computer. I'm glad to hear that a crowd gets het up about a sportsmanship issue.
Thanks for the alert on Joshua Ward-Hibbert, pw. I youtubed him, and he looks very graceful and like he has a good service motion. I hope he sticks with tennis and develops. I loves me a graceful player.
Great to hear from you, chesty. You truly do have Delpo spidey sense, don't you?
In theory at least, I find it hard to believe an average mover with average power will be a grand slam winner. But you never know.

I think, and it's just an impression, it probably the way that she seems to over-do the make-up and be conscientious about it on the court, dabbing with the towel, etc. Then again, I could be projecting chesty, yes her dresses are nice enough, and she has a great bod. It's just that, as a tennis player, those tend to be a given, along with the added advantages of youth. (There's nothing like watching tennis players and feeling younger than all of them to make one feel old!)

Wow, Ivanovic really doesn't have anything to throw at Kvitova. Martina and Tracy are pretty much tearing apart Ana's game. She just doesn't seem to have enough confidence, and the service toss is horrendous.
I like Kvitova; I wouldn't mind seeing her at number one. I can see Azarenka there too, but she seems so cranky, I don't tend to root for her.

It's hard to tell, because his game is so quirky and unique, I wonder if he'll end up being on e of those players that gets figured out by the other players as more of them get to play him. I feel like quirkiness and variety aren't like having a big weapon or speed which either work or not. Guile can be figured out. If he's smart (and with a game like that it seems like he might be), and willing to keep working on, and adding to his game, he could be. It's still early I think, and there are still so many other "mysteries" in the upcoming generation.
