Saying that someone can be a real "bitch" is a little too amorphous for me. Someone can be stand-offish or reserved or assertive or sarcastic and that can be interpreted as "bitchy" if that person is a woman. If you're telling me she's actively mean or treats people poorly that's one thing, but I don't know what "bitchy" means in this context. I once saw Maria Sharapova in an interview, and she admitted in not so many words that sometimes the way she interacted (or failed to interact) with other players could be interpreted as bitchy, and I actually liked her more for admitting it. I could especially appreciate it because I have also heard that she is one of the more polite and respectful pros when it comes to dealing with the ballkids. Maria is clearly well-mannered and polished.
Azarenka is clearly prickly, sarcastic, and gruff at times. These may or may not be negatives given the situation. She's also a punching, clawing, win-at-all costs player on the court who has also betrayed her own frailties at times on the court. Something about her makes me like her in spite of it all. If I were to find out that she is actually a bad person that would definitely change things, though.
Don't get me wrong; I hate gamesmanship, and it always causes me to lower my opinion of the person exhibiting it. If that's what was happening with Vika then I'm not okay with it, but that's different from being "bitchy".

While wiling away the time until 3:30, I thought I'd try to find the Wertheim article that mentioned Azarenka's reputation, particularly since my memory was of the vague "she's a bitch" variety, and I found it. It was from JW's SI wrap-up article about the 2012 Oz Open:
"Last week, the excellent Sydney Morning Herald columnist Richard Hinds noted Azarenka's poor reputation among drivers and locker-room attendants while Josh Eagle (a commentator and husband of former player Barbara Schett) talked on the radio about sneering contempt Victoria Azarenka has for those not named Victoria Azarenka."
I've always liked Wertheim, so I thought his deciding to publish this was suggestive and have been iffy on VA ever since.
Anyone else up?

Here! Really enjoying my Eurosport stream and having seen the Women's Doubles. Mats and Enqvist doing the pre-game run-down.
Thanks for that source in the VA conversation - I never saw that.
Very excited!

I'm here too. And I've heard about Vika's treatment of ball kids. But that's telling that JW printed that. That's a terrible attitude to have.

Was anyone watching the coin toss? I thought Molina, the ump (is his first name Enrique?) was so charming with the child. Sniff.

Molina is always good with the kids. The kid was someone's nephew.
Backhand to backhand is a bad move, Roger. Change it up.

Oh, right. I think I heard the name "Draper." Would that be Scott Draper? He was a player IIRC.

These Melbourne commercials are so odd to me.

Hopefully Roger can get into Andy's service game.

Those PBA commercials are hilarious. That music.
I hope Roger's back isn't acting up. I don't think that Andy can keep playing this aggressively.

Did Roger miss this many 1st serves against Tsonga? He was broken quite a bit then too. It's so odd to see.

These double faults.

Yeah, they keep mentioning the (relative) lack of aces and pop on Roger's serve, but they haven't mentioned the double faults. Yikes.
I forget if I've mentioned this before, but has anyone noticed that Murray's "grunt" when he serves sounds just like Dementieva? I didn't realize Andy was a soprano until recently. I hope you're right, skyz.
Hey, where's tiki?
