Almost time to start the festivities! Less than 24 hours . . .

I hope the other Aussies have a good showing... because Tomic interviews (and the people reporting them) will drive me nuts otherwise. I saw a headline which quotes Bernie as saying that Roger won't make the third round.. but the interview makes clear all Tomic is saying is that nothing is guaranteed, not even Bernie's first round match against Leonardo Mayer.
I know I wasn't drinking when I did the brackets so trying to figure out how I have both Ivanovic and Venus Williams making big runs... and Djokovic not in the final. Must be wishful thinking.

I think we were drinking the same thing when we did our women's brackets, moon.
Wow, Aga Radwanska double-bageled Cibulkova in the Sydney final. Did anyone see it?

falafaclese I watched the first eight games of that Sydney final this morning on TC. The first set was not as lopsided as the score... Domi had break points in 2 Aga games and game point in at least one of her service games. The main problem in the first set was Domi not constructing points...so once you could see that she was exhausted early in the second, I shut it off.

Man, I have been out of the loop...imagine my surprise when I turned on the TV and the AO was on! I am on my holiday jaunt to New England and haven't paid attention to tennis in ages. What's the scoop? Who are the favorites? Also, for old times' sake: GO FEDS!

Exactly the same tikigirl! I think I'm going to have to go to sleep though soon... save up stamina for the later rounds...

haha, I agree tiki! Welcome back!
I have the same problem with the AO every year, the time difference just kills me so I never see the night matches live anymore, but will record them maybe starting with Roger (I imagine he'll play at night a lot since he never seems to complain about it though maybe he should once in awhile) anyway hoping for a good tournament.

Hey, lizm and roseha! I don't know if I can do the late nights either, but I'm alone tonight and tomorrow, so I can at least attempt those.
The usual announcement: I'll be going through Chicago on Sunday, January 20th -- let me know if anyone can meet up!
ETA: In case anyone cares, my avatar is a shot from my travel to NE -- the BF and I did a road trip that included the Blues Trail in Mississippi, and we visited Robert Johnson's grave, among other famous spots.

tiki, that's great - years ago my mom and I went down south partly because I love the blues also and that's when I saw "Highway 61" in the delta area and remembered it from the Bob Dylan song.
Hope you had a great time!

Someone please explain to me what the hell is Lleyton Hewitt wearing?

I know I wasn't drinking when I did the brackets so trying to figure out how I have both Ivanovic and Venus Williams making big runs... and Djokovic not in the final. Must be wishful thinking. Hear Hear. I have something similar. It's all about the draw and match ups. I have Venus beating Sharapova too. There is something about the match-up between Sharapova vs. the Williams sisters that I always give them the advantage no matter how they are playing. And I guess Ivanovic must have had a good draw because I usually don't have her going far. And who do you have taking out Djokovic. I was this close to having Berdych take him out, but changed my mind at the last second. I still have Murray winning though.

I have Berdych taking him out.
I cannot believe that second set of Tipsarevic-Hewitt happened! First serve really left Lleyton but it was also Janko deciding to do a Djokovic impersonation after being down double break in the second. It's been a brutal day for the Aussie fans - at least Stosur survived but she's the only one.
Also, Grigor? Seriously? I kept going back and forth on picking that match, figuring it'd be a five-setter either way. Not basically a no-show.

I believe that is his very own new clothing line called CMON and no, I'm not joking.
Yesterday, at 5:30 pm my time I settled in to watch the start of the Australian Open. I realized that there would be half an hour of commentator talk prior to actual match play but I didn't care because it's the Australian Open and I've been so looking forward to it. Do you know what was on at 5:30 instead of tennis? Curling. Only in Canada.
Baggy is in the midst of another 5 set match. Does he ever play matches at the Australian Open that are not 5 sets?
You what's really missing at this year's open? The color yellow.

I didn't believe you so I had to look it up, and it's true. His clothing line is with a company called "Inferno" which is ironic because that's exactly where that outfit needs to go, ASAP. Here is the website. If you choose to scroll down, be forewarned. Adorable kids and wife look perfectly normal, but Rusty is channeling his best "Sling Blade". www.infernosports.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=203&Itemid=59On a promising note, I loved Venus's dress. I'm always a little scared about what she'll wear after the "illusion of bareness" fiasco, but this dress was rather lovely. It suited her well.

Geesh, 8 Aussies out the first day. Ouch.
Baggy never makes it easy but glad to see him still around.
