Quite the match going on between Robson and Kvitova. They both such a similar game. I really like Kvitova but I'm pulling for Robson.

I made the bold decision to go to sleep, wake up at 8am with Kvitova/Robson still going. That was a good call. Way to go, Laura!

Good for Laura, I like her. Was it a quite ugly match? The little I saw of it (when Laura double-faulted away her first opportunity to win the 2nd set) the commentators were saying there was a lot of double faulting going on.
The doubles side had a huge upset! Kevin Anderson and Jonathan Erlich beat Paes/Stepanek. And what happened to Feli and Roberto Bautista Agut (a player I've never heard of)? They retired after losing the first set to Fer/Marrero.

Number of double faults: Robson=12, Kvitova=18
lt - on the ATP site, it lists that Feli had a stomach muscle strain.
As for Bautista Agut, he just had a strong run in Chennai, beating Berdych and taking Tipsarevic to three sets in the final. At this event, he beat Fognini in 5 and lost to Melzer in 5.

lt, the Robson/Kvitova match was not pretty. Kvitova looked like she was phsycially and mentally drained at times. Robson caught the ball constantly on her toss because it was all over the place. The double faults were ridiculous, even by WTA standards. I think a total of 30 between the two of them for the match. Neither of them had a positive winners to unforced error ratio. Not by a long shot. There was some good tennis but it was sandwiched between some really bad tennis from both of the women.

Thank you both for the breakdown. And that's too bad about Feli, I hope he's okay.
That's too bad. These are two women I like on the tour (although I wanted Laura to win) and I don't want unwatchable tennis from either of them. Was the weather affecting them? Damn, it was hot yesterday.

It was really hot while they played even though the sun had gone down but I don't think that was the issue. Kvitova looked really down on herself at times and appeared to be lacking confidence. Robson almost looked like she was trying too hard. Every return had to be a winner and very serve had to be an ace. From what I saw, had either or these ladies been playing someone like Radwanska, they would have lost quite badly.

I was wondering if Kvitova was having breathing problems again, because she was really huffing and looking peaked at the end there. I caught the end after I woke up as well, and Laura got really tight whenever she was within striking distance of victory. I like Petra, but I'm really happy for Laura.

Okay, I think I have a new favorite women's player: Madison Keys! A big game that looks pretty effortless. I love that. And she seems delightful.
Although, now that I think about it, Li Na is still probably my favorite, but Madison is number two now.

I didn't get to see much of the match, but I like her game too. It's too bad she didn't win because I was rooting for her to pull off an upset.

While I didn't seriously think Madison would upset Kerber, she is the teen whose game I like the most. So many teenagers having success this week, fascinating to see all these new faces - culminating with this Stephens-Robson match. Though I also know that I cannot stand Yulia Putintseva. So loud and annoying.
On the other end of the spectrum regarding age, Kimiko Date Krumm rules.

Date Krumm indeed rules.
Not sure I can stay up for Venus v Maria but I'll try, at least for a while.

I don't think I'm going to be able too do it. I was hoping Djoker/Stepanek would be a whitewash and I'd at least catch the beginning of Venus/Maria, but Radek has, unfortunately held on even though it looks like it will be a straight sets win.

woke up at 3:30 for Maria-Venus. Right now, I want to go back to sleep. This is not going well.
In much nicer news, Aussie Kim may not be in the game but her spirit has passed on to Kirsten Flipkens, who's into the second week of a major for the first time.
