Santoro is 2 sets up. And 401 in the third I would hope for Rodina to beat Maria, but i'm not getting my hopes up. I've seen too many players wilt in the face of a big win.

Sharapova is currently up a creek against Rodina, after losing the second set in what has to be one of her worst performances ever - 8 double faults, and 4 winners to 32 (!) unforced errors. On serve at the moment but Rodina is finishing her games at love or 40-15 while Sharapova's service games are all going to deuce. It's all a question of whether or not Rodina let's the occasion get to her from here on.

I will curse the gods if Maria now pulls this one out.

I know, and yet it seems so inevitable, doesn't it? I keep thinking of those three setters she recently had in Rome against Schnyder and Cibulkova where they both had chances to win, and coming back from 5-1 against Wozniacki...and Rodina has just squandered three break points that would have allowed her to serve for the match.

That's it. I've seen too many times this situation, and i'm sick of getting my hopes up, only to see the inevitable.

Ay yi yi, dodgy service game there...curse the Grand Slam "no TB in final set" rule. I think Rodina would win it the way things are, but the longer this drags on the more likely it is to swing back in Sharapova's favour.

So Pova pulled it out, as I knew she would. I figured Rodina would crack. I can't believe the 17 double faults. There hasn't been any talk of a shoulder injury and her performance today makes me more convinced that her serving woes from last year were largely mental. Safina will eat her alive in the fourth round, should they both get there. Anyways, I did like Pova's dress. That is the only compliment I can come up with.

I am glad I missed the crushed hopes of that match. But darn the results all to hell.
Let's hope the women's field gets it together to remove her from her post at unearned #1

I'm glad the Serena vs. Johansson match was scheduled for today since both players opened on Sunday and have had such a long lay-off, but I wonder if that match will be completed, especially if the Monfils-Clement match goes long.
Ivanovic vs. Safarova just started. This could be a doozy. Lucie is so dangerous when she's on.
ETA yikes! Lucie fighting to avoid the first set bagel. Good grief.
I'm glad Rafa sailed through with no drama ;D

Watching TTC's online feed... are their microphones normally so bad that you can hear other network's commentators in the background?

Yay! There's tennis to be seen today!
Hopefully, they can get caught up today. I only have a chance to skim the scoreboard.
Marat won. It's odd when something so expected turns out to be so shocking. I was really expecting another MaratMeltdown. And it's Safin/Davydenko in the second round. That could be exciting.
Donald Young is doing very well against Ginepri. Mathieu is stinking it up though.
Feli Lopez lost. Struggling Spaniards, he and Moya both out. Ferrer breezed through. I hope they show his 2nd round match against Santoro.
I'm just so excited to see some tennis. Or anticipating watching the 16 hours I'm currently DVRing.

I'm getting to watch that way as well and I keep thinking the other commentators are coming from the court. Very disconcerting. But, boy, Paul-Henri is sure taking the French fans on a rollercoaster ride.
eta: I find myself cheating--I'm getting a little anxious so I keep looking to the scoreboard (which is just a little bit ahead) so I can see the result of a point. Well, the French have had an up and down day today but I'm glad Mathieu could pull that off. I honestly didn't think he had that kind of intestinal fortitude.

Watching TTC's online feed... are their microphones normally so bad that you can hear other network's commentators in the background? Sadly, yes. They've had that problem as long as I've had the channel which is about a year. In fact, it's much worse this year, because I could clearly hear a woman calling the Mauresmo match in the background as I was watching the Davydenko match last night. It was maddening. I'm not sure if it's TTC's fault, or the fault of the new media suites that were apparently built this year, but someone needs to do something about it.

Ugh, Ferrero retired when he was up a set. I hope it isn't serious and he can make it to Wimbledon. He does better there than the French lately anyway.

Why must I be subjected to Star fucking Jones at the French Open? And how did she weasel her way into sitting next to Oracene Williams?
ETA: On the positive side, I just saw Kadr Nuni (sp?), who is one of the chair umps, checking out the match too. I think he's great; the big fluffy afro, the soul patch, the voice, and the fact that he looks like he should be in The Commodores. I love it all
